What's the best compliment you've ever received?

My personal favourite ever has been "You've got a nice nose. Like Boris Becker".

DGS aged 3 at the time " come on Nana , you can do it ! Oh well done ! Good parking ! " . I am VERY good at parking by the way but he was genuinely impressed.

When DHs secretary left someone commented that they would miss her as she was like fresh flowers in the office every day. That one still makes me smile for her .

ReturnoftheWhack · 12/05/2016 21:41

"I think you just might be the most wonderful person I've ever met."

DeathByMascara · 12/05/2016 21:51

Some of these are just beautiful! And tear jerking.

Like a PP, mine was from my best friends boyfriend, many years ago, who said 'me & GF were talking about you, we think you're the most loyal person we know'

And yes, i find it preferable to be complemented on personality than looks - but then, I'm no supermodel!

feelingmiffed · 12/05/2016 21:52

I love you being you, don't ever change will you?!

Came at a bit of a low point and I was choked Sad

Muddlewitch · 12/05/2016 21:54

This has been such a lovely thread to read.

Someone said to me once "I don't what it is about you, I can't quite put my finger on it...you're just a little bit magic."

Another one recently was a service user at work, I work in mental health and had just finished the first day of training a new group of people with mental health issues. I asked one of the group members at the end if she has enjoyed it and whether she would be back for the next session and she said "I have loved it, today was the first day I can remember when I have not felt ashamed of who I am." I love my job so much.

QuickSqueezeCoolBreeze · 12/05/2016 21:54

"You have a very interesting face - I'd like to paint it"

carabos · 12/05/2016 21:56

"I want to be you when I grow up" from my boss's secretary years ago. And from the same young woman "When I'm stressed and things are going wrong, I think 'what would Carabos do?'"

From a young male colleague "You must have been something special when you were...Blush" Me "Stop right there..."

poocatcherchampion · 12/05/2016 22:02

You've got a lovely cervix. Hmm

Puzzledandpissedoff · 12/05/2016 22:09

From someone very dear to me: "If I could have only one friend, I'd want it to be you"

And from the teenage son of the above, to his friends who were clearly uneasy chatting in front of me: "Don't worry - she's old but she's sound"

Summerwood1 · 12/05/2016 22:11

Still waiting 😉

FizzySmile · 12/05/2016 22:15

From an older relative, whom I hadn't met for a long time...
"Hello Fizzy, it's been ages... are you hiding a really horrendous-looking portrait upstairs in the attic!?"
Luckily, I'm an Oscar Wilde fan Grin

An Itslian ex-colleague of mine once told me that when she'd moved to London, I was the only person who never treated her like a foreigner. Having lived abroad myself and knowing how hard it could be to integrate, I was made up at that!

A friend (with benefits) once described me as "relentless", which I was weirdly pleased at.

ShakyMilk · 12/05/2016 22:18

"You do give outstanding blowjobs"

Liiinooo · 12/05/2016 22:19

I am a couples therapist for a large charity. It is challenging work and sometimes doomed to failure but I cherish the memory of one couple who came into the last session holding hands. They told me 'coming to you saved our marriage.' The memory of that keeps me going when things are tough.

maggiethemagpie · 12/05/2016 22:21

My partner and I were told that we made beautiful children! Made me smile.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 12/05/2016 22:31

Dh once said, 'Thank you for making a nice home.' And he didn't mean F&B paint or anything else to do with decor, tidiness or cleaning.

madmother1 · 12/05/2016 22:35

My boss told me I had pretty feet today. That made my day Smile

redhat · 12/05/2016 22:36

My DSs once made me a card which said I was

"luxury and exotic - no evil"

We go to the same takeaway shop every weekend Blush and it's often me who does the picking up. I always make conversation with the men who work there - most of them came to this country recently and they tell me about their families, home countries etc. All nice chatting.

DP went in last week and one of the men said to him 'your girlfriend is so kind to everyone, she is like an English princess'.

I was BlushSmileGrin

Choccywoccyhooha · 12/05/2016 22:46

A friend of my then boyfriend cornered me on my way out of the loo, put his hands on either side of my face and said "You are an utter enigma, what is it about you?" I liked that.
Kind of similarly, I worked in an archive one summer as a student. I was sitting amongst thes huge filing shelves one day, on the floor, looking through boxes. A guy I didn't know walked past, 5 seconds later he walked back and just said "sorry I just couldn't walk past, there is something bewitching about you." Then he walked off, never to be seen again!

RainIsAGoodThing · 12/05/2016 22:51

Oh, and once my brother said to me - at a particularly low point in my life - 'if anyone can deal with this, you can.'

The unwavering faith of a little brother Smile

GuinefortGrey · 12/05/2016 23:01

When I was about 16, a boyfriend (older than me, college student, so very cool in my eyes at the time) told me I had "a smile like a Bash Street Kid". I've never been a girly girl, so I thought that was an awesome compliment and have always remembered it!

GuinefortGrey · 12/05/2016 23:05

Oh and another one I've just remembered, years ago I went to Peru with my then boyfriend (who was half-Peruvian). Whilst there we visited lots of his family and they all fawned over my pale skin, dark hair and blue eyes - one Auntie in particular said "who is this girl who looks like a queen?" when she first met me Grin. I liked that one!

Glittermud · 12/05/2016 23:09

Kwirrell · 12/05/2016 23:10

Like most of us, I had serious doubts about my many mega parenting fails.

Then found out that my 3 adult children agreed that they wanted to give their kids the same childhood that they had.
