To hate this time of year, or rather my neighbours at this time if year

One has a bonfire on the go, one a barbecue, two have trampolines, and they all have various music playing at full volume. Is it too much to ask that I be able to sit in my garden in the sun in reasonable peace without stinking of smoke?

YABU, they are just enjoying life, if you dont want to stick of smoke because someone is burning their chimera or having a BBQ, then you need to live in the country where you then smell shit

I hate everything you described OP but I still think YABU to expect your neighbours to accommodate you when you're not willing to accommodate them.

Oooh, I love it when everybody's out in their gardens enjoying themselves. Love the smell! Smells of summer.

1. If you don't like neighbours using their own gardens, then you should have bought a house in the middle of nowhere. I don't care that this is beyond the means and practicalities of most people, you should have done it anyway.

2. Report them to the council/111 for burning things even though I have no idea whether they're actually doing anything wrong.

3. Children have the right to play in their own gardens. How dare you not like the repetitive bouncing and shrieking and screeching?!

I don't mind the children it's the chain smoking and the constant swearing that annoy me
We don't use our decking much as its too cigaretty to sit there and poor dd has to have her bedroom window shut
But I don't want to fall out with my neighbours so I grin and bear it

I love all those sounds and smells in the Summer

It's times like this that I rejoice that I live in the back of beyond where the loudest sound is of the cows farting!

I don't mind children or barbecues, but why anyone thinks loud music in the garden is okay beats me. Your right to do what you want ends at my fence.

If you don't want neighbours then move rural location. I have. I have one neighbour the others are about 1/4 mile away.

Bonfires and music and loud taking/shrieking... I am totally with you. Real antisocial and unclassy to spill over like that (fires should be at night to avoid spoiling washing too!)

Trampolines and quiet BBQs I don't mind nearly so much.

YANBU. All I can smell in my garden today is stinky food and burning. Not pleasant to sit out in or hang laundry out in.

I think it should be the other way round- if you want to barbecue and stink out the air for hundreds of yards, blare music etc you should buy a house in the middle of nowhere with a massive garden.

Why should I have to move to avoid people who can't be considerate? The price of living cheek by jowl is consideration and that cuts both ways. People have to tolerate others' activities to some extent (children playing, DIY, the odd party) and other people have to tone things down. It's not a matter of let's all do exactly what we want and everyone who minds should just bugger off. That's just a recipe for life to be utterly intolerable.

The behaviour of the loudest most inconsiderate is only remotely bearable because usually only a few are like that. Imagine if every single garden was full of music, barbecues and shrieking. And there's your answer - apply the 'what if everyone did this?' rule and it's immediately obvious that actually it's not ok.

I love the smell of a proper BBQ

Usually I would say YABU because your neighbour's are using their own gardens to enjoy the nice weather.....
But the last two evenings on the trot, I have got rather agitated with my neighbours' DCs - both sides have 3 children each, eldest being in high school, youngest is a toddler.
They are outside playing on their trampolines in the evenings - not an problem! Enjoy the sun while it lasts. But what really irks me, is when it's 9/9:30pm, and there are an 11 and 12 year old (old enough to know better IMO) out there shrieking their heads off across my garden to each other in their respective gardens. I have a one year old sleeping upstairs...it's only when she is sleeping that I am irritated by other people's noisy kids

I feel bad now my kids are bouncing and shreiking!!

I don't like children on trampolines in gardens that are barely bigger than the trampoline.

I don't like al fresco dining when their voices are too loud and they're talking about a still born calf being chopped up inside the cow so they can get it out just as I sit down to my vegetarian sunday roast.

I mostly despise everyone else's taste in music and being forced to listen to someone else's music. I don't want to hear your music. Nor crazy builders who sing along loudly much to the amusement of their work mates which only encourages them to carry on in an even more ridiculous tone.

Noise cancelling headphones are your friend here. They don't need to be expensive.

Kids should be out shrieking I rather that then them sat I'm their laptop ,tablet etc my son would rather sit in his room watch g Dan sodding TDM but I made him play out with his friend instead.

I don't mind kids, bbqs etc but I hate the people that seem to think it's ok to let their fucking dogs bark for 20 minutes plus several times a day and occasionally shout "fucking shut up" or "shut the fuck up"in a half hearted attempt to deal with it.

I adore loud music but would not play it outside my house except at a once a year if that party. I wouldn't feel comfortable listening to loud music knowing my neighbours ( who are lovely) are suffering... I play very low music if we eat out door for a few hours. We have bbq and I make sure its not near our or anyone else window...

none of my neighbours play loud music, or light bonfires on a warm and sunny day either...we all rub along very nicely.
So I do feel for you.
