AIBU to postpone my job interview?

Dakin1 · 05/05/2016 13:52

I have a job interview tomorrow morning at 9.30am. It's the third and final interview and I think I am the only candidate they are seeing.

The job sounds amazing and I really want it. DP recently unemplyed so we really need the money too.

BUT today I have come down with a horrendous stomach bug. DP and DC both had it recently and it lasted a few days. I thought I had escaped it but clearly not.

WIBU to give the recruitment consultant a heads up and say I may need to postpone?

DP says to dose up on immodium and force myself to go as it would make a bad impression to postpone. I think it is better to postpone than run out to the loo half way through the interview.

Advice please?!

Postpone, explain you are ill and that you don't want to pass it on to others. Then ask if you could re arrange to early next week.

Good luck.

GinAndColonic · 06/05/2016 06:33

Take your immodium now, good luck Flowers

SpaghettiMeatballs · 06/05/2016 06:34

Good luck. That's really unfortunate timing.

Oh gosh I really think you should postpone. I think the recruitment consultant will view this differently to the actual employer. My husband has teams in America and UK and flies over to take part in recruitment, but often he is there for other meetings too, I don't think he would appreciate you turning up with a stomach bug. You could always do an interview over conference call, and the interviewer may well be around next week anyway.

Can't believe you're going to a job interview when you are contagious and still suffering from a sick bug! I wouldn't thank you for coming in and risking infecting everyone.

The recruitment consultant obviously wants her commission, but I bet the employer won't be happy if you pass on your bug to them and their staff.

OliviaStabler · 06/05/2016 06:59

Grab some antibacterial hand gel on the way and use before you go in there so you don't pass anything on when shaking hands.

Good luck!

Nerves may be affecting you as well hopefully once you're on your way things will calm down.

Dakin1 · 06/05/2016 07:18

Believe me I would love nothing more than to cancel but if I don't show up today the RC told me the job will be opened up to other candidates. It's an amazing role and apparently they have received 100s of CVs so I worry there is a better candidate out there who would get snapped up.

It's the final stage today meeting the Directors so hopefully won't be more than an hour or so. I will defo cover myself in anti bac gel to stop spreading the germs.

Definitely start taking the immodium now, and ignore the packet, you don't have to only take 2, take several to make sure you are ok for the drive and interview!

(I take at least 10 every day, up to about 18, and have done for years with doctors consent, even in pregnancy)
