using it to clients to describe what i might do on my day off Shock

No one thought to take me aside??Angry

NattyGolfJerkin · 01/05/2016 12:17

It's a hideous phrase.

IAmAPaleontologist · 01/05/2016 12:20

So what are you supposed to say if you genuinely want to watch Netflix and relax?

AdoraBell · 01/05/2016 12:26

I'd never heard it until slumped in front of the TV and First Dates was on. A young man used it and his date was Hmm then Angry which caused him to be Confused then Blush when she told him what it means.

Glad I saw that and find out what it means before I ever thought of using it.

Grin at using it with clients.

lasttimeround · 01/05/2016 12:42

Oh god me too. I keep telling everyone I'm netflixing Blush I meant I'm watching Netflix!!!

kaitlinktm · 01/05/2016 12:49

Well I'm 60 and I know what it means!

(Not that I ever get to do it) Sad

TondelayaDellaVentamiglia · 01/05/2016 12:52

i KNEW this, it came up elsewhere recently waves to all the BMs

I do have teens but I don't know how I knew it, I don't even have bloody netflix, out internet is so shite. It seemed very obvious that it so wasn't slumping on the sofa and binge watching OITNB

and i am 50 in my very very late 40s

GreaseIsNotTheWord · 01/05/2016 12:52
Shock

I have never heard this and also had to google. And i'm sure I've used that term before when describing what me and the dc have planned for a rainy Sunday Shock Shock

edwardsmum11 · 01/05/2016 13:14

lol, never knew either.

BeckysMediocreHair · 01/05/2016 14:27

Top tip - don't use a 'cool' modern phrase or slang until you've found out what it means!

I mean, it's kinda cringey innit. Middle-aged folk suddenly trying to talk like tweens. I've heard "Oh, look at that, that's rather fleek isn't it?" and it's prime awkward silence time...

EverySongbirdSays · 01/05/2016 14:37

Senator Ted Cruz sent out an invite to his constituents/party donors inviting them to Netflix and Chill with him, so LEM as embarrassed as you are right now at least you aren't an elected government official !!!!

kaitlinktm · 01/05/2016 14:40

Oh but were they using modern slang?

I thought they were just saying what they were going to do. How were they to know it had become a euphemism for something else?

For instance tonight I am going to Indieflix and zone out! Wink

TheoriginalLEM · 01/05/2016 15:09

well indeed -dragon butter is NOT a chille pasteShock

probably best not to google that one!!

Primaryteach87 · 01/05/2016 15:14

Oh gosh!!! I'm sure your clients thought it was funny mistake rather than thinking you were giving them the lo-down on your love life!!

supermariossister · 01/05/2016 16:24

We picked ds up who came out excited for star wars themed treats days, told dp he was getting a wookie cookie. Dp dissolves into laughter and later tells me it is slang for ungroomed lady parts , urban dictionary confirms it is. I wouldn't know half the things on urban dictionary...

Musicaltheatremum · 01/05/2016 17:39

At 52 I have been educated again. 😄.

PirateFairy45 · 01/05/2016 20:50

As that's cute! WinkSmile

Verticalvenetianblinds · 01/05/2016 21:50

As a student at agricultural college I announced I needed to go and feed the pony. And I meant it literally, he was a short horse. Took me a while to work out why it was so entertaining. That and dogging, had to have both explained to me. Blush

CalleighDoodle · 01/05/2016 21:56

I once said i was teabagging with a class of year 9s. Met with sniggers. I meant making scrolls look old...

Remiggio · 01/05/2016 21:57

Is it immature that I found it very amusing the post count for this thread was 69 when I read the title?...

Tiredbutfuckingfine · 01/05/2016 22:16

I had to explain this to my Mum, no idea where she picked it up from but was happily going on about looking forward to "netflix and chill" on her day off it's like explaining that LOL does not mean lots of love
Next she wants to know what non-binary and genderqueer is all about...

NinaSimoneful · 01/05/2016 22:22

Yanbu
I never realised until I was watching First Dates one night and a bloke did it and his date told him what it meant.
I'd no idea Blush

Twistedheartache · 01/05/2016 22:24

A very loud obnoxious prick in my very open plan office asked what this meant the other day.
Wetting ourselves doesn't cover it!

JustRosieHere · 01/05/2016 22:27

I am under 30 (just) and was late catching on to this. I told someone I was going to Netflix and chill by myself Blush

BrianCoxReborn · 01/05/2016 22:27

My mum insists on calling an area of her living room, where she keeps precious things, her "glory hole"

When she first said it, I choked and said "MOTHER!!!!" When I explained what it is* she was most indignant and now insists on using the term, pointedly, to show that my generation are filthy minded and her version of the word is correct.

*Glory hole - a hole in a door or toilet cubicle where a gentleman can stick his man-parts and receive oral pleasure from a stranger on the other side.
