Am I a soppy cow or is ds made of stone?

I've been reading ds Gangsta Granny and granny has just died, the little boy is talking to Grannies cousin who tells him how he was the light of his grans life, and Friday nights when he stayed were the highlight of her week. Then he cycles to his grannies in the snow for 'one last time' her post is all piled up and a for sale sign outside.

I'm there blubbing and ds is just looking at me like I'm a complete weirdo.

I haven't been so upset since Charlottes web.

I'm a complete wimp aren't I?

OMG "Guess How Much I Love You" is NOT a children's book - it should be rated an 18 it's that sad - and a bedtime story too?!

I'm so soppy about things like this and always have been. I cried buckets at Charlotte's Web when I watched it in my twenties and definitely didn't have the excuse of either being pregnant or having children!

I cried so much at gangster granny, I was not prepared for it, I kept having to take big snivelling gulps, my ds was just looking at me like

When I read charlottes web to dd, she cried as much as me, so I haven't completely failed at parenting!

So many of DS's books have me in tears - I'm a blubbery wreck. Black Beauty was a particularly bad one... Currently pg and he loves the book about there's a house in mummy's tummy. Can't read the last page when the baby arrives - blubbery sobs. Please tell me I'm not emotionally damaging my child - who just looks at me as if I have lost the plot (which to be fair is not far off the truth...)

Dumbo gets me EVERY TIME!!!!

Dumbo is AWFUL- the other elephants are so mean!! We have one called "Once there were Giants", which is about the circle of life- the baby grows into a little girl etc and at the end she has a baby of her own. I cannot read it without crying. DD has no idea what's going on, and thinks I'm ridiculous.

I was completely unprepared too. I mean it's David Walliams.

Ds patted me on the shoulder and told me it's ok.

DD really worried me when she was very little. The bird exploded in Shrek and I expected tears. "Bye bye bird" with a I thought I was raising a psychopath. But she wailed at The Land Before Time which should also be an 18.

The Velveteen Rabbit... It's sitting on DS1's bookshelf and I can't bring myself to open it because it made me so sad as a child!

I need to test him with The land before time. If he doesn't cry at that there's definitely something wrong.

Oh God Dumbo is the worst. Makes me cry every time. I let DD4 watch it recently and she was a sobbing mess into the cushion. I felt so guilty

I used to be like this with a book called 'one true bear'. I always had to disguise the fact that there were tears rolling down my face By the end of the story whilst reading. But then again, I cried at Neighbours the other day. I'm a sensitive soul

No Matter What leaves me a blubbering wreck every time. I know it off by heart and can read it without looking and it still destroys me after 18 years.

Goodbye Mog!
We all loved the Mog books, being a daft cat family but I bought it..read it the once... and can't do it again, even though I think it is a wonderful way of talking about death with children.

'Mog was tired, she was dead tired...' sob...

Dumbo is terrible. At 31 years old I still occasionally think of the scene when he's linking trunks with his Mum and she's locked in the trailer and feel terribly sad. I have to ask DH to confirm that it definitely has a happy ending!

The Paper Dolls really got me...I hid it!

I bought 'Dogger' by Shirley Hughes for DGD - and couldn't manage to read it to her without sobbing... I just kept thinking of the threads on MN about lost toys, and the joy of the DC when they were reunited...

It's Dogger for me; 'and then Bella did a very kind thing...'
6yo DS is a kindred spirit, we sobbed together during Inside Out and Charlotte's Web, 4yo DD looked at us both like we were insane

I can't bear the scene I toy story 3...you know the one

And for some reason 10 little fingers and 10 little toes gets me. Voice gets all quivery when I get to the nose kisses

Owl babies, those poor baby owls all alone waiting for their mother, not a good bedtime read. DD once asked me what would happen if the mummy owl didn't come back. I started to sob.

I cried at gangsta granny too! I've just finished reading grandpa's great escape, also by David Walliams and it's another killer - I was a blubbery mess by the end of it!
