I've been reading ds Gangsta Granny and granny has just died, the little boy is talking to Grannies cousin who tells him how he was the light of his grans life, and Friday nights when he stayed were the highlight of her week. Then he cycles to his grannies in the snow for 'one last time' her post is all piled up and a for sale sign outside.

I'm there blubbing and ds is just looking at me like I'm a complete weirdo.

I haven't been so upset since Charlottes web.

I'm a complete wimp aren't I?

I went to see Bridge to Terabithia with my mum, she was sobbing when we left. I don't really cry much in books/films, not stone-hearted though- I do get v sad, it just doesn't turn into full on crying.
The ending of Chamber of Secrets gets me, when Harry goes "There's no Hogwarts without you Hagrid". Plus all the deaths etc. I also got a bit emotional watching Brooklyn. The poor mum being all alone...

I cry at absolutely everything, sometimes I don't even know why!

2 books that totally blindsided me are 'Gilbert the Great' about a Great White shark whose best friend is a ramora fish, who goes away one day and never comes back. I was reading it to my DD when it slowly dawned on me the reason why he wasn't coming back!! The other is 'Grandpa', which is mostly illustrations with a bit of speech, that looks at the relationship between a little girl and her Grandpa. Towards the end, Grandpa is clearly ill then the last page is a picture of the girl sitting opposite his empty chair! I've had to hide that one!

The first time I read the velveteen rabbit to DS I was in absolute bits. He looked so surprised! I am normally such a cold hearted cow but I cried just as much as I did when I read it when I was little. Not read him black beauty yet, gearing myself up for that one. I can still see the illustration of Ginger in the cart with her head hanging over the back in my mind and it's making me sad just thinking about it!

Whathaveilost, I can't even think of Private Peaceful without a tear coming to my eye! The other one that has really made me sob is A Greyhound of a Girl by Roddy Doyle. I lost my mother as a young girl and had recently lost my Granny when I read that. By the time I finished reading it to my daughter I was in floods of tears. In fact, I better go and find the tissues now...
