Society 6 are selling this. I know it's art. I get it. But it's also total shit, and completely out of order. I've even tweeted it (first tweet in about a year). So cross.

Never heard of them before - they're an online company. Saw a post about this on fb, and now have the rage.

I'm sure these companies do this sort of thing on purpose to generate ££££ of free advertising.
I'd never heard of Society 6. I have now, so have millions of other people.

It seems that they work with artists to place their designs on products, and then the artist profits from the sales. But there is a difference between an image in an art gallery, and on a t shirt. This normalises something that should remain shocking.

Who in Gods name would want to wear a picture of a notorious child killer on their T shirt?

araiba ha ha far from it: as a middle aged boring person, I'd be very bad advertising for their product! I'm not disputing anyone's right to buy and wear clothing with whatever art they want on it, but this does make me angry, and I am asking if my immediate visceral ire is a reasonable reaction, or if I'm being ridiculous and it's just a picture. But I get annoyed about real life murder being used for commercial purposes (films etc) even when it's far in the past, so I may be being oversensitive.

It's not art. It's disrespectful to murdered children and their mourning families.

Suppose it's a good early warning sign, if someone is wearing it you can assume they are a massive attention seeking twat and avoid them like the plague.

I've just emailed them and asked WTF they think they are doing. I'm old enough to remember the Moors murders and using this woman's face on anything is just beyond sick. I bet it's some young art student who doesn't even know who Hindley was and what she and Brady did.

It annoys me to think of how many people gave this product their seal of approval before it ended up on the market. Someone had the idea, and went to the trouble of having them printed up. Disgusting.

I must admit as a teen most of us don't think about the awful things serial killers have done and just want to be cool so would wear something like this without thinking. I've seen teens drawing swatstikas on themselves, taking selfies at Auschwitz, wearing t-shirts with Charles Manson on. As an adult I think it's disgusting.. These people shouldn't be worn proudly. Adults design these for impressionable teens to wear and they should know better.

It's a ton of publicity for them and my inner cynic wonders whether this was part of the plan. I only saw it when it appeared on "Get in the fucking sea" on FB. I'd never heard of the company till then.

O.K. Just to clarify: the original drawing is by a guy called Paul Nelson-Esch (it's part of his 'modern portraiture series'. Society 6 have put it on t-shirts, sweatshirts, throw pillows, iphone covers and a tote bag.

It's not the first time that specific image has been used to sell things though ...
