Baked potato debate

Me and dh are having a debate over a baked potato....how mundane I know.

I think a baked potato should be cooked in the oven. Takes longer I know but it's how you get that lovely crispy skin

He cooks them by whacking them in the microwave first then finishing them off under the grill. It's quicker and there not much difference in taste but that's not the point.

So wise ones....who is right?

please say me or I will never live this down. He is sat here with a smug look on his face

Shoeshine1 you do them on high for 4 hours, medium for 6 or low for 8. If you like a crispy skin just crisp them up in the oven for 10 mins or under the grill would probs work as well.

I do mine in the oven because I don't have a microwave. They go back in the oven for a few minutes with cheese and beans on to make the cheese crispy.

I do in the oven. Spray with a touch of oil and salt. Skewer through it then wrapped in foil. Hour in foil then u wrap to crisp up skin

I put timer on oven so they are ready 15 mins after my lo goes to bed. If feeling very indulgent I then take out it the middle mix with cheese and crispy bacon and then put back in and grill.

You are clearly right. The clues in the name - it's a BAKED potato. Not a microwaved and grilled potato. Men.

In the Rayburn every time, wood fired, it's the highlight of the year when she gets lit in the autumn and the first spuds go in.

Microwaved bakers are just not right.

I tried in the log burner, made coal Sad

Microwaved jacket potatoes are an abomination.

I like to run a sharp knife around the widest 'equator' of my potatoes, instead of pricking them. When they are done, you can split them into perfect halves just with your hands. So satisfying!

You are all welcome.

Microwave plus very hot oven or grill.

ZenNudist · 25/04/2016 22:54

Clearly microwave then oven. Not sure how grill thing works. Don't you have to turn them over? Just whack them in a high oven

ZenNudist · 25/04/2016 22:55

I'm going to try the tip for splitting tatos

thatorchidmoment · 25/04/2016 23:19

If I have time in the oven. If not my microwave is also an oven and I used the 'baked potato' setting - it does a fine job.

oliviaclottedcream · 26/04/2016 07:40

I do mine as threestars So I'm afraid you're both fools... ha ha ha ha

Mrsleighdelamare · 26/04/2016 13:09

I can't believe I don't use my microwave and oven setting on my combi oven...

Oven cooked BTW, microwave to start if time is short.
