Jealousy, pure and simple OddS.

They're not avoiding you, they're just trying to avoid confronting their marital inadequacies.

PaulAnkaTheDog · 17/04/2016 08:01

...Well this got weird!

Anywayyyyy...

The troll/trole confusion also led to one of my colleagues saying that she was spending her afternoon "trole-ing the internet" when she meant "trawling the internet" for evidence, not being hairy-handed on company time.

and it's pronounced trolling

FrancesNiadova · 17/04/2016 11:30

Is it tinned custard? Coz if you get store's own brand, that's not very thick. The best thick custard is Ambrosia, cold, straight out of the tin.
As I is obvs not posh, I say trolley dolly, when I stack up my cans of Ambrosia. Blush

PaulAnkaTheDog · 17/04/2016 12:25

What is the definition of a troll anyway? Is it someone who deliberately causes trouble? What about people who just outright lie about their life and circumstances but not to cause trouble? Is that trolling or is that acceptable?

Troll'ing is misleading people. I don't think it has to be to do with trying to cause upset or trying to get money or sympathy.

Lots of MN trolls are just trolling to get a reaction and have a laugh when posters fall for their fake stories.

PaulAnkaTheDog · 17/04/2016 12:41

So outright lying is trolling? Interesting...

I think just being a nasty malicious poster is trolling too. You know the really nasty posters that go around posting unpleasant posts - I think they are trolls too. Even if the post is truthful if it's been posted in a way to deliberately upset the recipient then I count that as a troll too. (There are a few of them on MN who hide behind being 'honest' and calling a spade a spade etc, they are still trolls if you ask me)

Poikjhvcx · 17/04/2016 13:00

Here is the WIKI definition, it looks about right to me,

In Internet slang, a troll (/ˈtroʊl/, /ˈtrɒl/) is a person who sows discord on the Internet by starting arguments or upsetting people, by posting inflammatory,[1] extraneous, or off-topic messages in an online community (such as a newsgroup, forum, chat room, or blog) with the deliberate intent of provoking readers into an emotional response[2] or of otherwise disrupting normal on-topic discussion,[3] often for their own amusement.

A truth that's told with bad intent beats all the lies you can invent.

When you think about it, some of the goadiest posters can be the ones that are online all the time, and post in tons of threads. Acting like they are experts on life, yet irl they must be sat glued to the internet in some for or other for most of the day. Hmm

It's quite interesting to see people's different takes on it.

NeedACleverNN · 17/04/2016 13:18

I will admit to being some one who posts a lot
I have no real social life apart from on here which sounds quite sad when you think about it

It's fun. It's like being at the pub with a few friends and having a few drinks.

Then the trolls come on by and start to try and piss people off which then ruins the atmosphere. Some are funny but most are trying to get a reaction

Chippednailvarnish · 17/04/2016 13:30

Tadaaaaa!

Troll and Doll...
wickedlazy · 17/04/2016 13:33

Sorry I thought I had posted in the other now deleted troll hunting thread (which should have just been reported as dodgy) 🙈 I was too distracted watching accent challenge videos.

Chippednailvarnish · 17/04/2016 13:34

I also post alot depending on my physical condition and normally if I'm on the tube. I still think if you're constantly name changing or a first time poster with a controversial subject matter or a link to the Daily Fail you probably have pink fluffy hair.

^This confused me, I assumed I had left page open on the other thread. Android internet updated and haven't gotten used to it yet Blush

GrouchyKiwi · 17/04/2016 13:46

DH is trying to tell me that he pronounces them differently but they sound exactly the same to me. I realise I have a handicap as a Kiwi.

He's sitting there going "trooooll" and "doll", as if "doll" is the same sound as in "dollar". But that's not how he says them. Angry

AND he's a linguist.

I might be a bit grumpy about this.

(I also have a blindspot on the difference between the initial vowels of Alice and Ellis.)

namelessposter · 17/04/2016 13:49

I am posh. I had his very conversation with a colleague who is triple-barrelled- knows -fucking-everyone-establishment-posh. We agreed. It's troll = doll.
