"These are not misspelled email addresses they are the same as my googlemail account but they are gmail but they still come thru to my inbox"

That isn't a problem with gmail. It is the person giving out the wrong email address.

YourEmailAddress@ googlemail and YourEmailAddress@ gmail are the exact same email addresses (if anyone has it!) and would go the same inbox.

I use my full name in my email address and it never happens to me, but my husband uses FirstInitial.Surname (so [email protected]) and gets mail meant for Marion Umsnet, Mary Umsnet and Martin Umsnet because they or other people have used the email address incorrectly.

Also, for those who might not know, the full stops in gmail accounts are meaningless but can make it easier to read an email address, so YourEmailAddress@gmail is the same as Your.Email.Address@gmail etc.

LassWiTheDelicateAir, on the web version, to get rid of labels

Settings > Labels then show/hide as you fancy!

I'll find my phone and have a look in a bit to see how to do it in Android.

"Sticky willies"? Is that a regional name for them? :o

Thanks for explaining

Never thought of it that way round - [dim emotion]

Yes they were always called sticky willies when I was a child and even when I was a teenager working in bakery shop - East Sussex

Trills that pic is spot on. I'm in the UK and get someone's Verizon emails. It's my first 2 initials, which also unfortunately sound like a shortened version of a name too.

countess there's also the [email protected] trick that gives you infinite email addresses (if web forms accept it).

The wrong email thing is stupid people forgetting their Gmail address and giving yours out instead. I have fun with it now and have control of 3 pinterest accounts and have suggested paint colours for a community centre in Australia.

yes, some poor soul keeps trying to set up an instagram account

my email is Ms. @ gmail ..i use it for all fb/insta/tumblr shite, but someone is trying to use it without the dot, and their validation keeps arriving in my inbox. I cancel it.

maybe i should search instagram and see if they ever managed it?

I don't have a laptop or desktop so stuck with the Android app

I have now downloaded an Android app called Bluemail, it managed to connect itself to my gmail account without too much trouble, and looks like it might be a decent email app.

Theoretician · 18/04/2016 16:42

If it's your only way into your email, you will probably want to change it's synchronisation option from one week to unlimited.

K9 was always a great email client for android.

I get plenty of email for two dolts who are my namesakes - one in the US, one in Australia. I have expalined to them that they can't have my name for their gmail address because I was there first. Neither seems to fully get it. I now know where they live, their phone numbers, what cars they drive and quite a bit of more confidential stuff, because I keep getting sent it. Not gmail's fault - just people to dense to work e-mail. Now I think I know why there is often someone in my seat on planes and trains.
