I have 4 email accounts (long story) - gmail is by far the least irritating of them.

I use Google inbox rather than Gmail. Its better. And blue.

It's a pain. The 'conversations' thing is not useful at all, if I want a particular mail from in there it's so hard to find, if a mail has split into multiple chains it becomes so bad I now start a new one. I also wish they would listen to requests for a 'block' function. Problem is I'm using it years so am more or less used to it and changing would probably be worse.

Google Play is bad too - I can only buy/rent their kids movies in the dubbed versions, Itunes lets me select the language (as it should I am damn well paying for it).

I wholeheartedly agree - I hate it. I don't mind it if I just see the emails in my inbox on the phone but the minute I use the desktop site my blood pressure rises. It's so difficult to use.

I am yet to be convinced that Iphones are great. DH and Ds1 have one but I've not been tempted.

I have 4 gmail accounts (mix of personal and professional) and have never had any problems at all. In fact quite the opposite. I find it user-friendly and easily accessible. I can't get on board with any other suppliers.

Wrt the problems you're having; are you accessing your gmail online via safari or are you using the phone's mail client or are you using the gmail app?

I can't stand it! It confuses me because you can't fucking see the most recent email first, so you end up opening an email that you sent and wondering 'Where's the reply?'. It's like they went stupid and about-face just for the sake of being different. That's what you get when you put a bunch of 'just out of teenage years' geeks in charge I guess. No respect for the rest of us muppets lol.

I ask to ascertain why you can't log-out. On my personal phone I never have any need to log-out as it were, but if I wanted to log-out after checking then I'd access it via a browser iyswim?

I have had a tinker with the settings. Not sure it's any better TBH but we'll see. I only use it for two things thankfully so not overun with emails.

I don't see what there is to not like.
Bu then I don't tend to access it via a browser, I use Mail on the Mac or iPhone.

Yes Trills they do - which is why gmail should offer the choice to order in a way that suits the user.

Sadly I work in software and have a fairly good idea how well companies listen to users. Plus I still use the wretched thing so I only have myself to blame.

I will say though that Gmail seems to be a bit better at spam blocking than the others I have used.
