I am female and don't like Gmail very much. Smile

Sparklingbrook · 16/04/2016 17:08

Or should that be GMale? Wink

FelicityR313 · 16/04/2016 17:09

Well I use hotmail. Because I'm hot.

I love it.

Also people don't judge you about it, like if a yahoo email :p

Newes · 16/04/2016 17:12

It's crap at finding conversations but it is an excellent spam avoider. Does want to nosey in everything in a Google way though.
Yahoo let everything through and allowed spammers to run riot in my contacts.

TondelayaDellaVentamiglia · 16/04/2016 17:12

I like it...click Gmail on my phone and its all there...my many and varied email addresses for all and sundry purposes, I finally got to grips with the calendar, so that's sorted,

Also made dh use it, it's fab, now he has to put things in there, so he cannot pretend he already told me when he obviously did not. I don't need to tell him stuff repeatedly cos its ALL in there for him to see if he cares to look.

I never ever get spam into my everyday emails....the social/promotions tabs are a bit of a pita but after a couple of tellings they seem to catch on. If only I could work out how to get it to send all my work emails directly to the bin work folder I'd be ecstatic.

probably the only thing that does bug me is that on the phone you can get it to show you ALL the inboxes at once, but you do not seem to be able to do any tidying while you are in there...it won;t let you delete or organise them away to folders unless you go back to the individual accounts.

and one other thing is my phone seems to only check for emails when I go in there, my old phone used to just have them as they arrived iyswim... but it really does not make much difference.

Sparklingbrook · 16/04/2016 17:14

I have never had a problem with Yahoo and if people really judge others over their email provider they really do have issues.

That said my email address doesn't have Yahoo in it but Sky so that's probably worse. Shock Grin

lljkk · 16/04/2016 17:15

gmail in the website is fecking awful.
Outlook web interface is also awful.

I use MacOS & Outlook desktop email programmes which are fine.
So basically... desktop applications = good, webmail versions = sucky.

Google calendar vs. Microsoft outlook calendar... Microsoft is mostly better aack. I'm a unix geek at heart, so I'm in pain saying that.

Give me dropbox over google drive or Onedrive, too.

KathyBeale · 16/04/2016 17:15

I like putting emails in alphabetical order by sender to delete them. So you can just see everything from
Amazon for example, then delete the ones you don't need. You can't do that on gmail. I also like to have folders for old emails that you want to keep, but on gmail everything has to stay in your inbox even if you put it in a category. Basically I like having an empty inbox and I never have that with gmail.

FelicityR313 · 16/04/2016 17:21

Have any of you ever had the displeasure of having to use a system called Sharepoint? Hmm
Meta-data my hole.
Give me a fucking folder to put stuff in.

Ok, so I can search for a document if I know the name of it, or who wrote it, or what department wrote it. But if I knew the name of the god-damned document I could do that with a folder system. If I knew who wrote it, I could ask them for the name of it. And if I knew what department wrote it I could search in their blooming folder. Angry

(sorry for tangent rant)

TondelayaDellaVentamiglia · 16/04/2016 17:26

you must be doing it wrong kathybeale ...i love going through deleting and moving stuff...you get a little sunshine face and a "you're all done here" smiley message.

CountessOfStrathearn · 16/04/2016 17:33

kathy, you are doing it wrong then.

Just search for all the Amazon emails and you'll find them.

Archive/label emails you are done with and then they will go from your inbox.

Trills · 16/04/2016 17:43

"Are you male?"

Fuck that.

Trills · 16/04/2016 17:45

If I were in a stereotyping mood I'd say that asking "are you male?" backed up my pre-existing assumptions about the intelligence of people who use hotmail.

SoftDriftedSnow · 16/04/2016 17:47

CodyKing you can have different Gmail accounts open in different tabs. From memory, on the webmail version, just click on the name in the top right and it should give the option. Right click and "open in new tab" if necessary (and if you're using chrome, I guess).

KathyBeale why don't you just search for Amazon and delete?

FelicityR313 and DoreenLethal I've just clicked on a load of emails in the Gmail app & they all open at the last one. So, not sure why you're having that problem.

TondelayaDellaVentamiglia Are you using the Gmail app? I can change labels on All Mail.

I love Gmail (and the integration with other products - great for a smallish business) and don't quite understand some of the problems people are describing. I love how good the search is, for example, especially for text in pdfs. That said, it's what you're used to, isn't it? And maybe if you're not going all out Google, so using Internet Explorer or your phone's email app, makes things more difficult.

leelu66 · 16/04/2016 17:48

YANBU. I can never bloody find an email. I'm used to the hotmail style of listing emails.

Yes, I hate that I am logged into Google and they can track my eclectic internet browsing.

The plus side is it's quite secure, and rarely hacked unlike AOL some email providers.

MistressMia · 16/04/2016 17:49

If only I could work out how to get it to send all my work emails directly to the bin work folder I'd be ecstatic

Set up a filter to 1. auto label it and 2. to archive it:

Use a particular message to create a filter
Open Gmail.
Check the checkbox next to the email you want.
Click More.
Click Filter messages like these.
Enter your filter criteria.

I really like it but not too keen on the Gmail app. I use the 'inbox' app instead (it is also a Google product). it's great!

TondelayaDellaVentamiglia · 16/04/2016 17:53

drifted .....maybe...the wee gmail icon.....it will let you do it but when you go back in, either on line or into the individual emails they are all still there.

I just don't do anything in ALL inboxes anymore

Mia I will def try that :o but don't grass me up.

Heyheyheygoodbye · 16/04/2016 17:56

I love it but it works exactly the way I want it to i.e. I never have to delete or file anything and just search and up comes the email I want. I think it's great for people who are very lazy like me!

SoftDriftedSnow · 16/04/2016 18:00

TondelayaDellaVentamiglia you're right - if you "move to", it doesn't go out of the inbox, just adds the label. You have to "change label" instead and label what you want and untick the inbox. Deleting worked, though. How strange.

How can people not find emails, though? The search is the most powerful thing about it.

MadameDePompom · 16/04/2016 18:06

People with Yahoo email accounts always have email addresses like [email protected].
