Aibu to not give a rats about the rats

I was listing to the radio today and the topic was the state of wormwood scrubs

They talk about conditions being dekensian rats as big as you like and having to go loo in your room

Well my initial thoughts are you don't have to rape, kill or mame one would imagine if you wanted to poo in private you would have opted not commit offensives the conditions are that bad a yet back they go so in my view the conditions can not be terrible

For me the reasons I don't comment crimes partly because I don't want to brake the law but partly because I don't want to be strip searched made to squat , poo in front of others and have rats nibbling at my toes

It's nit nice to have to live like that but to be honest one would imagine it's not grate to love with the after math of rape , or the killing of a loved one witch will last a lot longer than any sentence also there are lot of people living in the U.K. Who have not committed crimes who live in squalid conditions due to no fault of there own rouge landlords and poor councils ect they should be first in line not some scrout who's killed some old lady

What a simplistic way to look at crime. What do you think the point of prison is?? Do you think that by removing every ounce of self esteem an already vulnerable person has, they will be reformed and leave prison to lead a successful life and not go on to reoffend? Do you think that everyone in prison is a murderer and rapist?

I think that a decent society should be able to grasp that keeping anyone, criminal or not, in rat infested accommodation isn't a good thing.

Can you only go to prison if you rape or murder someone then? You do know op that there's a whole host of crimes that you can be given a custodial sentence for?

Count yourself lucky that poor spelling and grammatical errors are not crimes op.

Even if you forget all about the human rights and ethical stuff (which you clearly don't subscribe to) it costs us more, both financially and socially, to treat prisoners badly. They leave prison with higher rates of mental illness, physical illness, addictions, re-offending and unemployment. YABVU.

mn at its lowest-picking on spelling and grammar and ignoring the opinion set out.If you do not agree with op's pov, explain why . IMO op has a point. There are many struggling people who have not broken the law and hurt other people who need help desperately.

What's 'dekensian'? Seriously, if someone put you on the spot and asked you what it meant, what would your answer be?

Also, Wormwood Scrubs is a Cat B prison, so they won't all have raped, killed or maimed to be in there.

amarmai, it might not be kind to pick on spelling and grammar, but where you have a clearly ignorant opinion (ie assuming that all the prisoners there are murderers and rapists) and it's also littered with spelling errors, it's hard to resist. It's like when you get those posts saying 'if immigrant's can't speak fucking English, they should go back to there own country' and you think hmm....

Also, returning to the actual opinion, ironically, in countries where prisoners are treated like human beings and where rehabilitation is actually a priority, re-offending rates are considerably lower than in this country. If you treat someone like scum, they will behave like scum.

I don't think pointing out spelling errors is particularly helpful. It is demeaning and arrogant. Someone doesn't know what they don't know.
