To never ever shop at ASDA ever again?

Bought a leg of lamb the other week, brought it home and bunged it in the freezer.

got it out to have for dinner yesterday. Opened up the pack and it was HONKING.
really unpleasant smell.
However label on the pack said there would be a smell and it would fade so gave it the benefit of the doubt.

Seasoned it and cooked it.

took it out of the oven and it was still a bit smelly-tasted it and it was rank.

everything else was ready-potatoes, veg etc

dh had to run out and buy chicken breast from tesco express and we had to cut it up and flash fry it. everything was past it's best by then. chicken breast bought at 8pm from local store = £10!!!!

tweeted asda today-no response
phoned them to be told to take the stinky bloody wrapper out of the bin and take into store for a refund. Asked about the cost of the chicken i had to buy to replace the lamb and the guy said 'well you ate it didn't you?'

never again asda- never again.Angry

Don't ever buy their lardons, they are rank. When you fry them they don't crisp up, instead they leak some form of opaque liquid which absolutely reeks, I've had to bin 2 packs after I forgot how bad they were and mistakenly bought another pack.

Cocolepew · 11/04/2016 17:50

Where on earth do you live whete Asda is full if shouty psrents and women ready to knock your pan in?
I think it says more about your town than it being Asda Confused
My Asda is very civil. I'll only buy my meat from a local butcher though.

Realitea · 11/04/2016 19:25

Smurfingreat, I agree. I went there for a change this week and the lardons are rubbery and just..wet. It wasn't nice. Everything tastes inferior in quality, all very synthetic.
Anyway, my dad went to m&s last week and had the same problem as OP with a joint of lamb. He said it was disgusting. He took it back and they refunded him and let him choose anther joint of meat for free. Brilliant customer service!

LagunaBubbles · 11/04/2016 19:32

I'm not calling anyone a snob but there is definitely a very snobby attitude from some people on MN to Asda, seen it before on threads, in this one if had been said the "chavs" all shop there and there's "always" parents swearing at their children there.

biggles50 · 11/04/2016 19:44

Yes I've had bad customer care too at Asda. Aggressive charmless woman behind the till asked me if the chilled pastry was mine, Xmas time v busy, tons of customers. I said it was. She muttered something and I wasn't sure what she meant. I thought she was saying it wasn't cold enough so I battled my way through the shoppers to get more pastry. When I got back to the till I realised she meant it wasn't cold enough for it to have been in my trolley and the people ahead of me had paid for it and I was trying to pass it off as mine. My husband and I were in shock, the supervisor was called, she went through the receipt, long long list. People were staring, awful. Supervisor couldn't find it on the receipt, lady at the till was triumphant. Husband snatched receipt and found pastry within seconds. He asked for an apology and we didn't get one. Rang head office the next day, nothing.

I like my asda and my bulk teenager orientated shop is always reasonable (slinks away into corner whilst patting Jean pocket)

ShowOfHands · 11/04/2016 19:51

I have bought meat from Waitrose on only two occasions (we use the local butcher usually). Off both times.

Never had off meat from Asda.

Snoopydo · 11/04/2016 19:53

I don't mind asda and shop there a lot but once someone stole the pound from my trolley while I loaded the boot of my car and the manager of my local store stinks. Normally I would complain to the manager Confused.

tibbawyrots · 11/04/2016 20:08

Asda have refunded without question on the two occasions the meat honked - they also refunded when I was charged for 7 bottles of wine instead of 6. Never had a problem with Asda customer service. No, I don't work for them.

ivykaty44 · 11/04/2016 20:09

To many dodgy goings on at the till in asda, last time I shopped there they told my my debit card hadn't gone through so they needed to repeat payment. I asked for the receipt of the none payment and they were refusing to give it to me, then said they would post it to me, then said they would photocopy it for me, eventually they gave me the receipt reluctantly.

Any other shop just hands over the none payment receipt, so knowing about the ghost payments I stood calmly and just had to repeat myself quitely that I wanted the receipt otherwise I had nothing to prove the payment hadn't gone through.

Since then I haven't returned - which is no great shakes as aldi, lidl, sainsbury and Morrison's are all with half a mile just down the road.

Wrcgirl · 11/04/2016 20:12

Our asda is lovely, our food from there yummy, the staff are helpful.

Just saying. Not all asdas are rubbish

HotPotatoOrchestraStalls · 11/04/2016 20:16

I've never had a problem with Asda. If Ive had to return anything they've always been ok and never impolite.

Their online grocery site though is another matter altogether. Just rubbish Hmm

Woodhill · 11/04/2016 20:26

Yes, sounds awful. I wouldn't buy meat from there. Good for tinned goods and odd bits and pieces.

burblish · 11/04/2016 21:04

I'm vegetarian so can't comment on how good the meat from any given supermarket is, but Asda's fruit and veg are very poor quality indeed and go off very quickly. George is great for cheap school uniform and Asda is fine for tinned/packet goods, but I would never buy any fresh foods from there.

Worse things have happened at sea

Floggingmolly · 11/04/2016 21:18

There was a label on the meat packaging warning you that it would smell?? Shock

Outcomesthebunnyofdeath · 11/04/2016 21:27

I once bought a smoothie from asda. Accidentally left it in the car footwell overnight and when I got in the car in the morning it had exploded! The car stank of strawberry and banana smoothie and when I looked at it it had passed it's sell by date by a couple of days.

Complained to asda and they paid for the car to be valeted.

So they might pay for the chicken!

Cocolepew · 11/04/2016 22:02

My Asda's fruit is lovely, Tescos on the other hand is tasteless.

Crazypetlady · 11/04/2016 22:04

Nothing wrong with asda.
yabu how entitled expecting them to pay for your chicken.

Peyia · 11/04/2016 22:12

AIBU is the best entertainment sometimes.

I was very disappointed once by an Asda avocado.

I'm guessing that was dry humour but hahaha

And the manager stinks

I love George, I tend not to think of the ethics of making cheap clothes - sorry, but not sorry when you live in rip off London. I do give all to the charity shop to balance it....

chubbyrunner · 11/04/2016 22:17

I don't dislike Asda through snobbery. I used to shop in Aldi and it was much more pleasant. I wander down the market on market day now with my little bean in her pushchair and get my veg from the market and meat from the butchers. Saves money and tastes sooooo much better. (And isn't as soul destroying as bloody Asda)

Littledafty · 11/04/2016 22:25

My local asda doesn't sound like the majority of the ones being described. It's really clean, fruit and veg fresh, meat good and the staff are all friendly. I've never felt like I'm in danger of being punched by other customers.
Starting to feel it must be a very unique store given some of the descriptions of other Asdas.
The manager is lovely too, last year someone spilt paint on my coat at the checkout, I got my Zara coat paid for, a voucher and told to choose myself another coat from George. Couldn't fault their customer service.
I did once buy cauliflower rice which I couldn't eat but put that down to cauliflower rice being bogging and not the quality of the food!

Changerazelea · 11/04/2016 23:01

Having worked with that company don't think I could ever shop there again.....

IPityThePontipines · 11/04/2016 23:18

It is a definite MN thing to have endless threads about how Not Naice Asda is.

My local Asda is great, my local Aldi is a tatty midden.
