To never ever shop at ASDA ever again?

Bought a leg of lamb the other week, brought it home and bunged it in the freezer.

got it out to have for dinner yesterday. Opened up the pack and it was HONKING.
really unpleasant smell.
However label on the pack said there would be a smell and it would fade so gave it the benefit of the doubt.

Seasoned it and cooked it.

took it out of the oven and it was still a bit smelly-tasted it and it was rank.

everything else was ready-potatoes, veg etc

dh had to run out and buy chicken breast from tesco express and we had to cut it up and flash fry it. everything was past it's best by then. chicken breast bought at 8pm from local store = £10!!!!

tweeted asda today-no response
phoned them to be told to take the stinky bloody wrapper out of the bin and take into store for a refund. Asked about the cost of the chicken i had to buy to replace the lamb and the guy said 'well you ate it didn't you?'

never again asda- never again.Angry

No inlaws, I'd expect the customer to wear something they already had, or take responsibility for paying for something they wanted to buy and use.

Op didn't need expensive Tesco meat. A quick cheese omelette would have saved the meal better than running out to the shops. Or just eaten what was cooked.

Nu to get a refund though, and it would be good customer service if they offered something for the inconvenience.

MackerelOfFact · 11/04/2016 14:49

DropYourSword and CrystalMcPistol PMSL. Grin

I wish I had a more interesting qualifying statement, but basically I like grated carrot, grating actual carrots is a pain in the arse and Asda seem to be the only supermarket that sell it ready-grated. And it's only 50p!

chubbyrunner · 11/04/2016 14:51

Duchess just a mild dislike then?! You couldn't pay me to go in Asda!

NNalreadyinuse · 11/04/2016 14:57

I don't think we complain enough tbh and some retailers therefore take the piss and sell crap. I think they should compensate you for the inconvenience of having to find an alternative (and the OP did not necessarily have much of a choice there if she had nothing suitable at home).

MintyChapstick · 11/04/2016 15:00

ASDA is an absolute hellhole. Or at least the one by me is anyway, always crowded, noisy and a bit grotty. Their products are nothing special, and the staff are always rude. I also don't think they are any cheaper that any other supermarkets, yet they seem to cultivate this budget image.

LittleRedSparke · 11/04/2016 15:06

I love an omlet and roast veggies....

The op was put out by having to go out to the shop and buy a replacement due to the incompetence of asda, maybe they should have done a goodwill gesture of around £5

Also had rotten meat from Asda. Bought straight from the shop to open it at home and find the chicken breasts were stinking.

A colleague also had this with fresh fish used that day.

I think Asda meat is much poorer than that of other supermarkets, personally.

wasonthelist · 11/04/2016 15:38

It's a snobbery thing the Asda hate on MN.

Quite funny really

Mine isn't.

WakeUpFast · 11/04/2016 15:41

This is why you should never trust a supermarket to buy meat. I don't understand why people don't use their local butchers to buy meat.

We use Asda online and haven't ever had a problem with produce. Delivery of non food items can be an issue-often you'll go in and they'll have hundreds of the thing which was supposedly out of stock.

I've come to find their steadfast refusal to admit they ever have nappies in DS's size strangely endearing though.

gymboywalton · 11/04/2016 16:08

just coming back to say that the customer service in store a 100 times better than on the phone. Lovely lady-very understanding.
refunded he lamb and gave me a 10 gift card to cover the chicken.
i will give it to my mum .

those who say they would have just eaten the veg-would that be enough of a meal for three teenagers do you think? it certainly wouldn't have been enough for these three!!

anyway-done and dusted.

Asda is one of the circles of hell. Always smells like someone has farted and is just plain icky...they've just had a highly contested planning permission granted on the Island I live on and a lot of people are grumpy about it. Sainsburys fruit and veg is awful, meat is ok. Hate Tescos. Waitrose is nice. Aldis very clean and lovely here. Lidls ok but a bit warehousey. Am a farm shop gal tbh.

TheDuchessOfArbroathsHat · 11/04/2016 16:20

Crystal & chubby - so you got my meaning then?

For me it's nothing to do with snobbery and actually that's just a lazy inference. I shop in Lidl for fuck's sake! So nothing to do with snobbery and everything to do with a deep and abiding loathing of everything Asda. And the fucking rubbery chicken.Grin

NNalreadyinuse · 11/04/2016 16:29

It's not snobby to want the food you buy to not be off.

TheDuchessOfArbroathsHat · 11/04/2016 16:31

Always smells like someone has farted - Yes! Yes it does. And at our Asda you can always be sure of two things - besides that the chicken will be rubbery - and that's that there will be at least one ambulance outside and at least one Police car outside. Always. Dreadful place.

KoalaDownUnder · 11/04/2016 16:33

witsender I snorted at 'Always smells like someone has farted' Grin

No Asda here (Aus), but we have a Poundland-type shop here called Red Dot that smells farty (and is full of grim plastic shite).

Xenadog · 11/04/2016 16:37

When I worked at Sainsbury's years ago we would have refunded the lamb and then given you a £10 voucher for the inconvenience you went through. That should have covered the cost of the chicken.

LagunaBubbles · 11/04/2016 16:41

None of this resembles any of the Asdas Ive ever been in at all, Im another one who doesnt get all the Asda snobbery here.

squoosh · 11/04/2016 16:44

I'm not a fan of Asda but I don't think makes me a snob. I shop at Morrison's! Not exactly the Fortnum & Mason food aisle is it?

gandalf456 · 11/04/2016 16:45

I find the staff in our asda ok but the customers. ....!

I get it about the meat too. It always looks overly cheap.

I don't think Tesco is expensive either

Cantwait4summer · 11/04/2016 16:45

I stopped shopping online with asda because last delivery they totally screwed up -didn't deliver all I ordered ..and told us they would deliver the rest next day ..due to staff shortages (!) Next day came -still hadn't delivered -contacted customer services who said they will get the store manager to call back to arrange delivery of our remaining food . Pah they never did
.complained to customer services again few times eventually they refunded the remaining items missing .their customer service is pants! !! Never ever again ..now shop online with either sainsburys or ocado. ..much better service and hardly any substitutions too Smile. Oh my last shop with ocado -was given a free bottle of bubbly & 6 bottles of sparkling water !! Grin

JeanGenie23 · 11/04/2016 17:16

I don't like Asda but I resent being called a snob, I don't dislike it because it's cheap I dislike it because it's shit quality. Aldi is much better!

Defiant · 11/04/2016 17:29

Last year I bought a pack of delicious looking eclairs from asda but when I finally sat down to eat them (yes, both of them) they were so SALTY. Like the cream had been whipped with salt instead of sugar or something. Dreadful. I feel a bit sad just thinking about it, I was so disappointed.
