There is a silent war going on in my house

Whenever I hang a new loo roll I do it so the loose sheet hangs away from the wall as this is obviously correct. Then DH turns it round so the loose sheet hangs by the wall. So I change it back, and DH turns it round again. Every single time.

He has to be doing it deliberately. I should LTB, shouldn't I?

We have this daily. It's not just when the loo roll is changed (which he sometimes manages, sometimes not) as for some obscure reason dp takes the loo roll off the holder every time he uses it. He apparently wraps loo roll round his hand to unroll it from the roll. Weird. But he then always puts it back on the wrong way round. Since I have talked to him about it and it is always the wrong way, and he has no strong preference, he is now only doing it because he knows I prefer it the other way.

I don't even have the "wall-poo" argument as ours aren't on the wall, they are free standing things.

pigsDOfly · 11/04/2016 11:30

Ooh yes, the empty roll.

I have a small bin in each of my loos but if the roll runs out when they're using it both my DDs (both grown women with their own homes) will leave the empty cardboard roll on the side of the washbasin. Why?

I suppose I should be grateful that they both put the new roll on the holder at least, and they put it the right ways round. I've clearly trained them well in that respect.

ivykaty44 · 11/04/2016 11:34

That behaviour is just anul...

SistersOfPercy · 11/04/2016 11:57

Your DH hangs loo roll? HE HANGS IT!? Fucking hell!!

The silent war in this house came to a head yesterday. We have a chrome pole stand type holder in the bathroom so which way to hang isn't an issue, however, I swear I shall beat DH to death with this stand.

Issue 1. He removed loo roll from stand and leaves it on the worktop. The shiny gloss black worktop. This annoys me. For one is doesn't go there and for two it leaves little fluffy paper bits over my beautiful worktop.

Issue 2. He never refills the stand, which lead to our 'stand' off. Stand holds 5 rolls. Stand is down to 2 rolls and shopping arrives last week. I'm in a rush and doing other things so I leave new 4 pack next to stand, where they remain. By yesterday we are down to 1 roll on the stand. Does he refill? Nope. Point of principal by now because no bugger in this house is seemingly capable of refilling. He walked past the bathroom as I was cleaning and I had to say something.

Roll gate is now over, stand is full and we'll see how it lasts.

Cherish you wonderful loo roll changing DH!
Grin

AlisonWunderland · 11/04/2016 12:05

My DH is a Prince among men and changes the loo roll.

So far so good.
But A) He hangs it the wrong way round
B) He leaves the empty roll sitting there- I suspect this is to draw attention to the fact that HE CHANGED THE LOO ROLL!
(yeah, sweetie, I noticed because the roll is the Wrong Way Round...)

familygermsareok · 11/04/2016 12:21

Our loo roll sits on the windowsill. Our holder fell off several years ago and neither of us cba to replace it. In fact, we have looked at it but the old base is firmly glued to the wall and we're not really sure how to go about it without making a huge hole. Occasionally bugs me but does save these kind of issues.

I did have a crush on a boy years ago at uni which was emphatically cured when I found him changing the loo roll so it sat the 'right' way. I had no idea these things mattered so much, and it was clear we would never be compatible Grin

bigbluebus · 11/04/2016 12:33

DH and I both hang the roll away from the wall but we had visitors at the house on Saturday and one of them turned the toilet roll around in the downstairs loo so that it hung against the wall. I don't know why they needed to remove the roll from it's holder in the 1st place as it was a nearly full roll and is right next to the toilet - so within easy reach. What crosses someones mind when they think it's OK to change the toilet roll around in someone elses house Hmm

PiecesOfCake · 11/04/2016 12:51

I wasn't bothered until DH told me he preferred it hanging away from the wall so his hand could grab it. So this is the way we have it now, unless I've lost a recent argument and swap it round in silent retribution and he probably doesn't even notice.

whois · 11/04/2016 12:55

Loose sheets AWAY from the wall FFS people! This is not negotiable.

OTheHugeManatee · 11/04/2016 12:58

I'm very pleased to see others feel as strongly about this as I do, and that YANBU is firmly in the ascendant.

I'm Grin at passive-aggressive roll turning though Pieces Grin

Loose sheet hangs by the wall. I'm afraid anyone why says otherwise is completely wrong.

The silent war in our house is with the thermostat. I turn it up, dh walks past and turns it down. The war will never be won.

FarelyKnuts · 11/04/2016 13:04

Don't really care either way because the fact that loo roll holders are always mounted on the right annoys me more as a lefty. Over reach and swivelling on the loo to get loo paper constantly!
Solved in my house by a basket on the left of the loo with ample spare rolls Grin

akkakk · 11/04/2016 13:05

YABU

putting a loo roll on a holder is just....
...so wrong

some form of artsy container for loo rolls - current one out and placed somewhere near the loo - job done - none of this phaffing around with holders

OutToGetYou · 11/04/2016 13:05

Our only mounted one is on the left, the others are freestanding so you can put them wherever you want.

anklebitersmum · 11/04/2016 13:12

AWAY from the wall. Always.

DadDadDad Standing up? What? Confused

Pipbin · 11/04/2016 13:13

You are right. LTB.

opensideno7 · 11/04/2016 13:18

Oddsocks

You're doing it the wrong way, your DH is correct!

No he bloody isn't you frightful peasant Wink

TheNoodlesIncident · 11/04/2016 13:19

Definitely YANBU, and furthermore I like to have just one sheet hanging freely from the parent roll - no more than one mind. We have had our roll hanger actually fixed to the wall after TWO years of my waiting impatiently and with occasional bitter remarks. Prior to this glorious event it used to doss around on the cistern, unless DH could hide it somewhere out of reach in the bathroom, presumably for a laugh.

The cardboard roll goes in the RECYCLING, not in the bin, so correct to not put in the bin, not correct to just leave it there and not place in recycling waste.

TBH I'm shocked at the thought of placing the roll so the paper lies against the wall. I can foresee rapped knuckles occurring there.

DadDadDad · 11/04/2016 13:26

No, no, ankle, this thread is doing so well not discussing that question.

Smeldra · 11/04/2016 13:31

I suggest toilet paper origami instead (and that way the toilet paper has to be hanging the right way round!)

JacobFryesTopHatLackey · 11/04/2016 13:34

YANBU, and you're bloody lucky that's all your DP does. My DP removes the bog roll from the holder and puts it on the windowsill. Because its easier to reach on that side and he doesn't have to twist his body to reach it on the holder. Even though the holder is nearer to the loo than the windowsill is. It hasn't occurred to him to wipe his arse with his left hand or pass the loo roll from his left to his right.

I should just kill him shouldn't I? It'd be kinder.

Pinkheart5915 · 11/04/2016 13:41

Away from the wall, you are correct.

Ninjagogo · 11/04/2016 13:42

LTB, you are correct OP. (And I am a cat owner) Wink

SunsetSinger · 11/04/2016 13:44

If It's against the wall you have to use 2 hands to tear a piece, that's why I don't like it like that. The other way you can do it one handed. I can always tell when DH has changed the roll because he puts it the wrong way round. But it doesn't happen very often.

Gatehouse77 · 11/04/2016 13:49

You are right, he is wrong. Fact.

you only have to look at patterned toilet roll to see this - why would you have a pattern facing the wall????

DH and I used to have this about how to stack saucepans - I won Grin
