To be annoyed by "I need a favour but have to ask you face to face"

I think IABU but anyway...it's annoying me.

A relative sent me a text message stating she needs to pop round and ask me for a favour. It has to be this week and she asked when I'm free. I have a really busy week with various bits and bobs arranged for the kids, appointments etc. I replied the only times that are convenient would be this evening or early Saturday morning before we leave on a weekend break with the kids. I asked if she could give me a call to discuss the favour. She just replied "Ok see you Saturday". I asked again re. the call and she said no, she has to ask me face to face.

I hate this cloak and dagger shit. Just tell me what you need! If it's something awkward I'd rather she asked over the phone tbh. She lives about 40mins away on the bus (doesn't drive) and I mentioned we will be leaving early on Saturday and she'll have to get up early to get here. As this didn't dissuade her I'm guessing it's something important but what and why can't she ask over the phone?? I am not close to this relative btw.

I will feel bad if it's something 'serious' but at the moment I'm just pissed off as we will be sitting around waiting for her to get here on Saturday before we have to set off on a longish drive.

Anyway. Rant over.

I love the mental image of Yvonne running towards a football field of cheering MNers ready to spread the joys of her latest pyramid scheme

These threads always end up in an anti climax....so why oh why am I hitting refresh?!?!

negrilbaby · 08/04/2016 22:41

So what time do we give up and wait 'till morning?

unhingeddoor · 08/04/2016 22:42

We all know it's going to space something really dull.

I'm thinking:

executor of will
Borrowing an heirloom
Project management assistance

Hoping for an update before my battery dies...charger located too far from the wine...

Imagine she doesn't turn up!

OP will have to make something up - she couldn't possibly leave us all like this, could she? Hmm

treacletoffee23 · 08/04/2016 22:43

What if she has kidnapped the OP?

AlisonWunderland · 08/04/2016 22:43

Aunty Yvonne: Eastie, I've found this Victorian safe in my basement....

I hope this is not Jackanory.

IT'S OVER!!! SHE TURNED UP EARLY!!!! A cple of hours ago in fact.

It's mundane. I feel embarrassed writing this on a thread that has run to over 700 posts.

Ok long story short:-

I live close to the City (as in the City in London) and have use of a private residents car park in front of my flat. I also have visitor permits. Next week she is going to some kind of property conference (sounds like one of those talks hosted by a 'property magnate' who advises on how to become a property millionaire in 6 months or similar bullshit) near Bank. Her friend, who lives outside London, is driving the two of them there but doesn't want to pay the extortionate parking fees or the congestion charge.

So Yvonne wants to borrow one of my visitor permits for her friend's car. Friend will park the car and they will then jump on a bus to Bank (15 mins).

Yep that's it. All this goddam melodrama so she can save her friend a few quid. I hope friend gets a puncture.

Well a bit more. She actually wanted to buy a pass from me (I have 3 and each pass has space for 10 visits) as her friend often drives into London blah blah. I explained several times that I can't, the Housing Corporation that runs the building/estate expressly forbids this, I have to hand back all 3 used passes in May in order to get new ones and anyway I don't want to. She kept insisting, asking how much they cost (only £6 as it happens but not the point). I honesty never realised until now how passive aggressive she is. The whole convo took place whilst we were standing in the hallway (she didn't want to sit down as 'didn't want to keep us') so felt a bit awkward.

In the end I just gave her a pass that only has space for a 3 more visits and said pointedly we have a busy day ahead tomorrow. She looked annoyed. I told her my car park is sometimes full so her friend might have to park in front of the flats a few mins away she had the cheek to sniff and say they looked like rough council estates so she hoped that wouldn't be the case.

Asked why she couldn't tell me any of this over the phone. She said it was 'too convoluted' to explain in text and she doesn't generally call as she always runs out of credit on her phoneConfused

No lift home. She said thanks for the pass (but didn't seem THAT grateful) and went to get her bus back to Leyton.

I am so, so sorry Mumsnet. After the number of posts on the thread and the sheer number of people invested in this I was actually hoping for something interesting despite my intense irritation with this woman. I don't know..."Eastie I've taken out a contract on DH in Birmingham and need you to meet a man called Fat Ron in the Bull Ring and give him a brown bag with used £50 pound notes" would have been good. So sorrySad

I feel like I've let the MN family down.

Bags are only half packed for tomorrow. Whatever. The car being loaded and ready by 6.30am tomorrow was always a pipe dream. We are going to Tenby in case anyone is even remotely interested.

She turned up during the witching hour when DD was going crazy with tiredness and threw us off track as were about to put DS in the bath but I DON'T CARE, YVONNE HAS LEFT THE BUILDING.

I'm in the pub with friends and this is still the most exciting thing happening tonight

MeMySonAndl · 08/04/2016 22:46

Knowing my luck, this thread will be full before the OP can come back with an update.

How utterly bizarre that she didn't just text that. She sounds very irritating.

iamtheblackwizards · 08/04/2016 22:49

No organ donation? No Victorian safe? No surrogate?

Boohissboo.

ClashCityRocker · 08/04/2016 22:49

Well, at least we know now.
