Because it's always an insult.

But no-one is ever named.

If you do it, what do you mean? Why do you do it?

Does it ever cross your mind that long-standing, non-name-changing posters might be very hurt by your accusations?

If you're going to do it, have the courage of your convictions and name names.

I've always wanted to be MN royalty [misses point of thread].

I've seen it used as an insult and a compliment.

hazeyjane · 02/04/2016 21:12

If it was real life then you would see me wearing this, I even wear it in the bath, its heavy and gives me a cracking headache, but worth it.

Then you would all bow down and worship my magnificent resplendency.

Prostrate yourselves before me worms!!!

BrandNewAndImproved · 02/04/2016 21:13

I started a who's your favourite MNetter when I first joined a few years ago, everyone jumped on me when I said I loved usual Grin

Peyia · 02/04/2016 21:13

I've never heard of this MN royalty but would think it's a dig.

MMHQ might not treat posters differently but my perception is that other posters do depending on the poster. So if one 'known' poster has a strong opinion I rarely see them challenged unless it's by a poster that doesn't realise their 'status'. The new poster either gets tumbleweeds or a barrage of sarcasm, either way anyone that takes this MN heirearchy seriously (including myself) should step away from the Internet for the evening Wink

ExitPursuedByABear · 02/04/2016 21:14

Do you think you are MN Royalty then?

AlleyCatandRastaMouse · 02/04/2016 21:14

BIWI I have pulled up the poster on actual posts about being unpleasant as have many other posters on the same posts. This post is speaking in the general sense no????

The reality though is that most posters names would not ring a bell with me in the main. There are thousands of posters each day and I don't know them personally so the names don't stick.

MrsKoala · 02/04/2016 21:14

How? Why? How can you bun fight about who you like best?

NO I LIKE AF BEST!

FUCK YOU BITCH - I LUFFS HER!!!!!

FOTTFSOF I KNOW WHERE SHE LIVES AND GO THRU HER BINS AND WEAR HER BANANA SKINS AS A HAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

OddSocksHighHeels · 02/04/2016 21:14

I haven't ever seen it used as a compliment but it is pretty weird to criticise posters as a general group rather than to just disagree with them as individuals and explain why. There's not much point in criticising "royalty" and not saying who you mean - what is that supposed to achieve?

usual · 02/04/2016 21:14

Anyway most of the true mn royalty fycked off to Moldies and a few were left behind Grin

ShinyTurd · 02/04/2016 21:14

I think there are posters whose names are just really well know, the phrase MN royalty is a bit cringeworthy but I wouldn't think of it as an insult.

I'm miffed though because, although I was not royalty, more 4th cousin twice removed, next door neighbour's dog walkers auntie- my computer logged my out randomly and I couldn't remember my email address so now have a new name boo hooSad I'd had a much better one than this one for about 18 months.

Complaint over.

Flumplet · 02/04/2016 21:15

I want to be MN royalty also!! Queen of sporn I shall declare myself and you peasants shall all bow down to me with offerings of non penile blackheads and pics of cysts.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 02/04/2016 21:16

Cowardly as well as unpleasant

What an unpleasant comment! Why not discuss if OP, instead of being so rude?

lamiashiro · 02/04/2016 21:17

I have literally no idea who 'MN royalty' are. I've seen the phrase but assumed it was a snide swipe at some particular posters.

BIWI · 02/04/2016 21:17

Exit - no I don't, at all. (Assuming that was aimed at me?)

I just happen to be someone who's been here for a long time and doesn't name change! I'm no better/no worse than any other poster.

OP posts:
BrandNewAndImproved · 02/04/2016 21:18

No they all said I was being a goady fucker or a troll!

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 02/04/2016 21:19
Grin
WorraLiberty · 02/04/2016 21:20

I've seen it used as an 'insult' and I've seen it used as a tongue-in-cheek compliment.

It's a pretty weak 'insult' though isn't it?

In terms of wetness, it has to be up there with the cringe inducing "Did you mean to be so rude"? Grin

MrsKoala · 02/04/2016 21:21

Can i be the Duke of Edinburgh?

sleeponeday · 02/04/2016 21:24

Think it was a lot more relevant when the site was small enough that long-standing and very prolific posters were known by almost everyone. Now, different people will know a handful of names.

It may be meant as an insult by some, but tbh the only long-standing posters I really recognise tend to be the ones who are exceptionally thoughtful, or have something helpful to say, and that will inevitably be subjective. A couple of others I regard as bonkers, but they post on political threads where I tend to lurk rather than post, and they'd probably think the same of someone with my views, anyway.

It's a funny thing, but I don't often remember names of people I have argued with or disagreed with. I do those who have really said something that resonated. And I think that's probably a lot more common than remembering people who annoy you.

paxillin · 02/04/2016 21:24

I think people mistake the fact that longstanding non namechanging posters recognize and remember each other for being cliquey. In rl, nobody would interpret a few in-jokes and banter between year 6 parents as cliqueyness on the playground of their reception aged pfb.

hazeyjane · 02/04/2016 21:25

I don't think you're going to get many people fighting you for that one MrsK.

ExitPursuedByABear · 02/04/2016 21:27

justdontevenfuckingstart · 02/04/2016 21:27

worra and when someone tells you who they are, listen. I play bingo in my head now. I think that some posters think that just because they agree with someone in one area then they will be right all the time. This is where the ROYALTY comes from. They may be more knowledgable in some topics but that doesn't mean they always have to be agreed with. Poster in question (not you op) isn't expecting this but other posters who have agreed with them on one topic then expect them to be the gospel on everything, unfairly elevating them to royalty. Long standing poster hasn't done anything wrong but is subsequently bashed. Sorry long ramble.
