To wonder why people insist on posting about 'MN Royalty'?

Because it's always an insult.

But no-one is ever named.

If you do it, what do you mean? Why do you do it?

Does it ever cross your mind that long-standing, non-name-changing posters might be very hurt by your accusations?

If you're going to do it, have the courage of your convictions and name names.

No way am I going to read about fisting. Not gonna happen.

When I first joined MN 2 years or so ago, I spent ages plucking up courage to post on a thread. When I finally got it together and posted something, I got a PM asking whether I had name-changed and was I really xxxx. I was a bit embarrassed, so didn't post again for a couple of weeks. [Blush]

The person I was accused of being's name has come-up in subsequent MN royalty discussions.

It's all gone downhill for me since then.

I don't see the issue about Royalty,, there are a number of posters whose names I recognise. They are usually witty, succinct and obviously well practised at capturing the tone of a thread. They can make it fun or enlightening or protect the OP on a thread from getting a bashing from a mob. There are also great posters who inhabit specialised boards who give helpful advise.

There are also one or two people who I recognise as trouble makers or people who always seem to annoy me.

Isn't this just the same on other forums or in RL?

When I first joined MN it was all Fruit Shoots and Pom Bears, with minor detours into refusal to name favoured biscuits, and She Who Must Not Be Named. Now, it's all penis beakers and fisting.

I am still none the wiser on who's royal, though.

There's a short story by Anne McCaffrey called Dull Drums, about how people lose their distrust of shared computer memory and start posting very personal stuff.

Ten years ago kids growing up with the internet learned that their embarrassing mistakes or careless words could ruin them, if that sort of sharing doesn' t fuss you, and lets face it,people have built lucrative 'careers' on it, fair enough.

I'm already twitchy about credit card tracking and the info. Google has on me, not to mention mobile phone triangulation data.Just off to put my tin foil hat on.

It's gone a bit the other way, the quinoa and mountain spring water diet has been thorouhly ridiculed and now everybody claims their kids live of cheerios and turkey shapes washed down with ribena.

She rode to my rescue when I was in tears in in the middle of a hideous quiche kicking and I adored her ever since.

The poster I miss is GetOrf. She might be kicking around under another name though.

GetOrf had great threads. She started a great one about Jilly Cooper that rambled on for pages. Happy days.

Where is GetOrf? I miss her terribly.

I see long standing and well known posters referenced often and always thought they are held in high regard (AnyFucker on the Relationships board for example). I don't have the courage to keep the same name so change often cos I'm paranoid

Well I hope she makes herself known because she was one of the few posters I used to search for if I hadn't seen her around for a while. I tended to agree with her a lot.
