My DD who is 3 has been having stomach/bowel problems for the last year. Diagnose as constipation. She can not pass a stool for weeks despite fantastic diet and laxatives and weeks is in severe pain most days. She is very petite and skinny but her stomach has swollen to look 9 months pregnant. Getting no where with doctors/hospital etc.
Aibu to think this is not how a heathy child's stomach should look.

No poo at all yet!
I think she had it at about 6.30. But to be fair she is asleep and I don't know if it would wake her?
I have a feeling it won't work.

You really are going through a complete nightmare, and I take my hat off to you for holding together in the face of all the blockages in your way. Pun intended.

Headofthehive55 · 01/04/2016 19:41

Surprised that you have been sent home if the enema hasn't worked.

GlitteryFluff · 01/04/2016 19:42

I'm really glad you've managed to get to hospital and be seen. Fingers crossed things start moving for her now.

Headofthehive55 · 01/04/2016 19:45

Flowers I've been there.

TyrionLannistersShadow · 01/04/2016 19:45

I have to say I am really shocked you were sent home, that last pic was awful looking. Her poor tummy looks so swollen and if she has a blockage I would have thought she should stay on the ward at least til it started to move? Definitely go back tomorrow if she's not looking any better. Poor sod.

bakeoffcake · 01/04/2016 19:47

I'm really surprised they've sent you home.

How many incompetent people are you going to see?!

It's absolutely disgusting treatment.

bakeoffcake · 01/04/2016 19:49

Yes ,how do they know there isn't a blockage in there? They've given her an enema which hasn't worked and sent you home!

If she starts being sick or has a temperature you must take her back to A&E.

AnotherStitchInTime · 01/04/2016 19:52

I actually agree with them sending you home. IME being in hospital overnight can be very distressing for a young child, they have assessed her, if her condition was acutely worrying she would have been kept in. At least now she has been given an enema. They often take time to work. She is far more likely to feel comfortable opening her bowels at home. Open access means come back any time and don't be afraid to take her back in OP if you feel she is getting worse.

AppleyName · 01/04/2016 19:59

I've been following the whole thread.

Why will they not just do an X-ray or scan?? I don't understand. If there's something else going on, an X-ray will pick it so easily.

I really think you should push for one next time you go in. Don't leave until they do it.

MimsyBorogroves · 01/04/2016 20:00

Fingers crossed. You and she deserve a break.

blackistheneworange · 01/04/2016 20:00

I've been following your thread. I hope she is better soon. Distressing for you all.

beesarethebest · 01/04/2016 20:21

I can't believe they've sent you home. The latest photo makes her look so bloated. If it's gas it should have come out by now??

Is she eating? Feverish? How is she in herself??

ThanksThanks

PalcumTowder · 01/04/2016 20:24

Oh this thread is so distressing, your poor daughter. She really looks very uncomfortable and swollen in those photos, definitely worse than the first.

Im so shocked they didn't examine her in the hospital, no X-ray or anything? Just an enema that didn't move any poo?

If I were you I would take her back at the slightest SLIGHTEST change in her condition. But I'm sure you will do that - you are dealing with this fantastically, I can only imagine how worried you must be.

summerdreams · 01/04/2016 20:30

Figers crossed for you and you daughter op Grin

summerdreams · 01/04/2016 20:31

That should have beenFlowers

3littlefrogs · 01/04/2016 20:33

I too am shocked that they didn't do an Xray.
I find it inexplicable that they gave a child an enema and didn't wait for a result before discharging her. I am sure that would never have happened back in my day.

Buzzardbird · 01/04/2016 20:37

I wouldn't wake her, the relaxed state of sleep will help things move along.

sunnyshowers · 01/04/2016 20:40

Sorry I haven't read the full thread but glycerine suppositories worked with my son when he was blocked and we were waiting for the movical to work. The pain is awful. ..you poor thing

littlemaemae · 01/04/2016 20:41

They are all saying that an X-ray won't show anything that will change the treatment plan so it's not worth doing because of the radiation.
I was pleased that we could go home because staying in is horrible for her and my other DD would have also been distressed.
But now I am feeling a bit worried because obviously it hasn't worked yet and I don't know if she is in a better position now than she was earlier.
Her temp has been good but she's looking sickly and acting irrationally and becoming obsessive, which she does when the toxins are getting to her.
In your experience how long has it taken for an enema to work?
Thank you to everyone saying I have done really well.
It means a lot.
I'm utterly confused at the moment. Xx

Just read the whole thread - your poor poor DD! I really hope things get going soon and that you make the mother of all complaints about the GP.

GreenMarkerPen · 01/04/2016 20:42

this is way beyond glycerine suppositories and home remedies.

littlemaemae · 01/04/2016 20:43

She was too far gone for suppositories as the poo wasn't getting to the rectum, will the enema have the same issue?

OP posts:
GreenMarkerPen · 01/04/2016 20:43

an enema works pretty instantly 20 min or so.

Pebbles16 · 01/04/2016 20:44

Flowers for you and DD although the NHS is wonderful, guts and brains are not their strong suit. Personally I would bundle her up and take her back in. Yes, hospital wards over night are horrid and scary but the port little mite need help
