My DD who is 3 has been having stomach/bowel problems for the last year. Diagnose as constipation. She can not pass a stool for weeks despite fantastic diet and laxatives and weeks is in severe pain most days. She is very petite and skinny but her stomach has swollen to look 9 months pregnant. Getting no where with doctors/hospital etc.
Aibu to think this is not how a heathy child's stomach should look.

someone else who should have shares in movocol here. So glad to see things are on the move now. Hopefully you can keep up the momentum on the referrals. No-one deserves to be in pain day in day out without at least a solid attempt to work out what is wrong.

littlemaemae · 01/04/2016 16:04

This is looking worse, right?
I have just spoken to continence nurse who will be out to see her Monday and consider our options if nothing much has moved.

We often stay At home during disimpaction. My DD doesn't feel like going anywhere. It is messy and time consuming but we think it's a much better method than the alternatives.
Well the treatment you have been given seems to be working...it can take up to a week for us.

I hope in some ways it's comforting for you to know there are lots of us travelling the same road!

Headofthehive55 · 01/04/2016 16:05

Monday is ages away.

Headofthehive55 · 01/04/2016 16:08

They do seem to be keeping a good eye on you, and don't forget, all this movicol will have softened it so that if you were to need an enema it will be a lot less painful for her.

littlemaemae · 01/04/2016 16:10

I spoke to her prior to seeing her belly swell up.
I called back and Sh e is now ringing the peads at the hospital as she thinks she might need to be seen on the ward.
I do feel she is getting the care she needs now X

VagueIdeas · 01/04/2016 16:12

If she doesn't want to eat, that's ok I think.

Movicol also contains salts to counteract the extra water that gets drawn into the gut, so she shouldn't get dehydrated.

Just keep plugging away at the Movicol. How many sachets is the aim today? You really need to blast this immense backlog into submission. And you will, as long as you get a consistency huge does of Movicol into her Sad

I wouldn't go out this weekend. Too risky at this early stage of disimpaction, I think.

VagueIdeas · 01/04/2016 16:13

I missed what you said about the swollen tummy. It COULD just be the Movicol working, but it could be something worse (a total blockage) so definitely get advice about that.

Goingtobeawesome · 01/04/2016 16:14

I can't help as no knowledge but I am thinking of you both and hope she gets help soon.

MadisonAvenue · 01/04/2016 16:15

Littlemaemae, I've been reading through and you are doing brilliantly in a really stressful situation. Really hope you hear back quickly about what the next step is and your little one is soon sorted and feeling better Flowers

cakeycakeface · 01/04/2016 16:15

Mae, that really doesn't look good to me at all. I personally wouldn't wait until Monday. Trust your instincts.

Can I just say, having followed this thread from the beginning, that you are sounding strong and focussed. I'm wondering if you are aware of that shift yourself. I feel quite proud of you given how wobbly you felt a little while ago. Thanks

MissBeaHaving · 01/04/2016 16:15

It does look bigger Littlemaemae,I would want her seen ASAP,Monday is ages away.
Poor thing,what a weekSad

Footle · 01/04/2016 16:16

She can't wait till Monday. Very relieved you've been listened to now.

MissBeaHaving · 01/04/2016 16:17

I really hope she arranged to send her in, I think they've done all they can and little mad needs a thorough check over.

littlemaemae · 01/04/2016 16:17

They want to see her on the ward.
So we are on our way to the hospital.
I feel sick

Stay strong lovely, she'll get some help & relief now x

Headofthehive55 · 01/04/2016 16:18

The continence nurse really seems like she is taking care of her.

Headofthehive55 · 01/04/2016 16:20

Dont worry. All the movicol will have helped her so much so you've done a good job.

hellhasnofurylikeahungrywoman · 01/04/2016 16:20

While it is distressing for you I am so glad the hospital are finally seeing her. Good luck to you all Flowers

cakeycakeface · 01/04/2016 16:21

I am so relieved to hear she's going in. Stay strong. It's frightening but she will now get the care she needs.

ExitPursuedByABear · 01/04/2016 16:23

Gileswithachainsaw · 01/04/2016 16:25

It's a good thing she's going in. she should finally get that xray which should have been done befire they filled her up with more movicol.

with any luck they will look. Into the coeliacs amd the allergies this time. I know it's scary but least now it's being taken seriously.

go you!!!
