My DD who is 3 has been having stomach/bowel problems for the last year. Diagnose as constipation. She can not pass a stool for weeks despite fantastic diet and laxatives and weeks is in severe pain most days. She is very petite and skinny but her stomach has swollen to look 9 months pregnant. Getting no where with doctors/hospital etc.
Aibu to think this is not how a heathy child's stomach should look.

Good news! Flowers

Headofthehive55 · 31/03/2016 16:01

If it happens again, at least you'll be more confident of what to do. You may or may not get a diagnosis, but at least you know you can deal with it, in the meanwhile.

Meggymoodle · 31/03/2016 16:02

Have followed this thread and been feeling so sorry for you all. My DD has very very mild constipation but I get very uptight when she doesn't go for 4 days or so. This has put it all in perspective! I really hope you get some answers soon and all the referrals and medical help your DD obviously needs.

WipsGlitter · 31/03/2016 16:39

I give the movicol all in one go not in separate drinks, ie mix three sachets in water - you might find it easier to get down her that way.

JaneAustinAllegro · 31/03/2016 16:43

while she's on the loo, give her toys to blow - it helps contract the right muscles to push a poo out (so blowing up a balloon / a recorder of some sort etc etc), and give her a little stool to put her feet on - gets her into the best position to let it all go

Catsize · 31/03/2016 16:48

Good luck OP. Really hope this gets sorted soon. You've been brilliant and this thread is a fine example of why Mumsnet is ace.

cakeycakeface · 31/03/2016 17:15

I have all my fingers crossed for your DD. Poor wee thing.

happyis · 31/03/2016 17:16

DS pace nurse said its ok to give multiple sachets just as long as you are using correct volume of liquid/water. I normally do 2 at a time, anymore and he struggles to get to the bottom of the glass!

Also needs to sip plenty of water throughout the day rather than drinking huge drinks a couple of times a day.

RunswickBay · 31/03/2016 17:44

Keep going Maemae lots of books, even a film etc while she's on the loo.

Well done

cakeycakeface · 31/03/2016 17:59

Mae We got a consultant to take our DDs issues seriously by showing him a video of how long and how hard she screamed as a baby. I can still picture him hunched over my phone at his desk with her screaming and screaming on it. At the time she was asleep in my arms. He got the point. Maybe consider that too if you need to.

AnotherStitchInTime · 31/03/2016 18:59

Definitely video her. Not the same issue, but I got turned away from one A&E after taking dd to GP for severely sleep disordered breathing due to tonsillitis. GP witnessed her during a nap and sent us straight to A&E with ENT OOH on site. She was of course awake in A&E so they didn't admit her having not witnessed the breathing. Went to my nearest A&E the following day after videoing her overnight and she was admitted for 2 days.

EvansAndThePrince · 31/03/2016 20:09

Oh I'm so so glad things have started moving (both in the treatment and toilet departments!!!)

timemaychangeme · 31/03/2016 21:36

Really hoping you have a better night and dd continues to make progress. YY to videoing if helpful. dd recorded dgd screaming in distress and arching her back the minute she started her bottles. It helped the consultant definitely diagnose her reflux. It should help doctors realise just how bad a situation is.

iminshock · 31/03/2016 21:58

Hope she continues to improve

purplepandas · 31/03/2016 22:02

Another one who has been following and is glad to hear that things are looking brighter. You have both been massively let down and I am sorry that getting the right help is so hard. I hope that this is the start of real improvements for your DD.

MiscellaneousAssortment · 01/04/2016 04:57

I'm up in the night and just had to check here as my thoughts wondered over to you and your poor little girl.

Hope dribs and drabs of runny stuff is turning into actual poo. Courtesy of mumsnet I do know that rivers of sludgey water can come out without the hard stuff budging.

Poor you and poor you. You're doing a marvelous job even though

it's so tough to deal with the blockage that just one loose link in the chain can create. Which puts me in mind of: Can we force feed the ghastly consultant a few liters of Movicol please?

Might help with his competency and compassion blockage problems. That's definitely been going on months with no relief.

How is your wee one getting on OP?

NealCaffreysHat · 01/04/2016 09:16

How is your DD this morning?

littlemaemae · 01/04/2016 09:17

Morning,
Thank you all for checking up on us.
We have been up for hours in the night with a few cramps.

She was leaking chocolate milkshake up until she went to bed last night.
Makes me think this is going to be a long road, lets home the sludge starts flowing soon!

I have an absolutely harrowing video of her howling like in labour, the HV witnessed this herself. Will show this to the consultant.

I've been giving 2 at a time in juice as per advice on this thread and it has helped no end. No stress of trying to get her to drink litres of disgusting water.

I will start with a food diary today to speed things up, incase I get asked to do one.

Did you stay 'under house arrest' while doing disimpactment or try to keep things as normal as possible?

Thank you for the ongoing support.
I'm feeling quite fed up this morning, I just want that poop out of her Xx

soupmaker · 01/04/2016 09:32

Good morning LittleMae. We didn't stay under 'house arrest' but DD wore pull ups when we went out. We did the park and short trips to the shops. So not too far from home just in case we got a poonami. Made us all feel better.

We really did have to get to the stage of brown water to completely clear out DD1.

Hope you are all feeling better. Your poor DD, it's such a horrible thing for them to go through.

Thanks
lazyleo · 01/04/2016 09:41

Gosh, it just sounds horrendous for you. You must all be tired out if you've been up overnight with it all. It sounds like you are really doing good things ahead of time now, like the food diary and video, heading off any more fob-offs at the pass. I've no advice, I've never been in this situation. Just want to let you know I'm thinking of you and hoping things move more easily now and your little one gets relief from this pain. Flowers

londonrach · 01/04/2016 09:50

Mae just sending you support. You are an amazing mum. Xx

GreenMarkerPen · 01/04/2016 09:51

your poor dd, hope for a sausage today!
wrt pull ups ard they maybe uncomfortable? they can be a bit tight at the front, maybe next size up are more acceptable for her?

mateysmum · 01/04/2016 09:59

Just wanted to say I have found this thread has brought out some of the best aspects of mumsnet - reassurance, encouragement and practical support which seems to have made a real difference to a struggling family.

We much appreciate your updates maemae . Keep them going and remember to look after yourself as well as DD. Flowers
