'Hi Op'

Hi ladies,
I've noticed a huge influx lately of people starting OPs like this, or starting responses 'hi Op'.
Don't even get me started on the X's.
Yes, yes. I know I'm a MN nazi. But I'm a purist. I don't want to be a nethun.

As you were.

OP posts:
CosyNook · 23/03/2016 15:40

Why can't you have a number in your username?

Is it the MN police again?

KurriKurri · 23/03/2016 15:41

I think 'Hi Op' is used to make it clear on a busy thread that you are answering the OP's question e.g 'Do you prefer hobnobs or digestives?' rather than the huge numbers of people who have gone off at a tangent and are now heatedly debating whether we should leave the EU.

Hope that helps hun xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx FlowersWineBrewChocolateCakeHaloStar

Cinnamon2013 · 23/03/2016 15:41

Shit. I've got numbers. What ARE the rules about usernames? I got total writer's block when I chose mine.

2boysnamedR · 23/03/2016 15:46

Listen up bitches sits better on MN?

but then your pissing off the blokes and trans part of the community. Don't swear as that pisses the fuck out of people too.

Nice but too nice. Simples

BadDoGooder · 23/03/2016 15:46

Aww hi hunneee!

Are you feeling sad?
Lots of hugs and kisses hun.
Unicorns and kittens and small fluffy things for you.

SqueegyBeckinheim · 23/03/2016 16:03

Hello mummies, even worse than hello ladies .

Sparklingbrook · 23/03/2016 16:05

I don't mind 'Hi OP' not sure what's wrong with that. Confused

'Hello ladies/mummies' is just vom though. Also 'Man here'.

AuntieStella · 23/03/2016 16:09

I think it's much friendlier when people use the poster's username rather than referring to OP.

And 'Hi ladies' has always been very unMNetty (as well as lavatorial) and there is nothing whatsoever wrong with a community having shared language norms (indeed it's a strength) and so pointing out the shibboleths as part of the assimilation process is fine with me.

I don't want MN to become just another site. It's quirks and habits matter.

ThenLaterWhenItGotDark · 23/03/2016 16:11

Oh, you used "hi ladies" ironically?

Course you did.

ThenLaterWhenItGotDark · 23/03/2016 16:13

I've noticed that women are referred to on MN as "ladies" or "the lady" when there is a daily maily sadface thing going on.

It's like the writer thinks it's somehow offensive to call a woman a woman when she's been caught up in the Brussels bombing for example. (thread today calling the woman in the yellow jacket "the poor lady with her tummy showing") It's so very coy.

Sparklingbrook · 23/03/2016 16:14

I thought the done thing now was to not refer to the OP by name or 'OP' and just quote huge sections of their post and pick it all to bits. Grin Thus not acknowledging them at all....

Ginslinger · 23/03/2016 16:14

inbox me hun - xx

Lighteningirll · 23/03/2016 16:17

I'm going with hi cuntychops

Hassled · 23/03/2016 16:22

I always try to make an effort to scroll back and remind myself of the OP's name, and then use that rather than "OP". Except when I can't be arsed, and then I write "Hi OP". Sometimes I want to write "Hi Insane Woman With No Sense of Perspective".

Samcro · 23/03/2016 16:37

"Hi ladies, "
don't get me started on that......cos we do have men on here too you know

EBearhug · 23/03/2016 16:46

So, is "oi, you!" acceptable or not?

CigarsofthePharoahs · 23/03/2016 16:47

When I next feel brave enough to start a thread I will begin with "Hello possums!"
Will that do?
