Gone off Eddie Izzard a bit although it pains me to say it

just that, really. I suppose I feel in my gut that his latest mammoth marathon effort (and every respect to him for achieving it as I was born in same year and couldn't even run for 5 mins) is not 100% about raising money for charity. I do wonder just how much "cor blimey you are just SO AMAZING and compassionate" type of validation any individual needs.

janet I think that was a joke and chipped was referring to Kim Kardashian.

bibbitybobbityyhat · 21/03/2016 23:10

SpeakNoWords

Oh yes, I abhor and detest Paul McCartney. Don't worry about that. Really I do loathe him as previous posts on Mumsnet will testify.

Hard working people!! Dave..is that you??

bibbitybobbityyhat · 21/03/2016 23:12

You don't know if its a joke Janet?

Is that a joke Confused

intotheblue9 · 21/03/2016 23:13

it does seem a little like self agrandisement.

Ffs, if you can't feel proud of yourself and allow folks to congratulate you after a feit like that, when can you?!

Oh there goes Izzard, showing off again!

I think any negative feeling around this says more about the doubters, personally.

Chippednailvarnish · 21/03/2016 23:14

I was being sarcastic and joining the OP in posting total bullshit.

PoorHarryHaddow · 21/03/2016 23:15

I didn't realise the phrase was trademarked ifnot I just know Eddie Izzard works his arse of to help others and it annoys me when that sort of effort gets cunted off.

LittleLionMansMummy · 21/03/2016 23:17

27 marathons in 27 days, £1.5m raised for charity and he's criticised for self validation/ personal gratification. Damn right he should be fucking revelling in it! I've literally seen it all on mn now. Yabvvu.

katemiddletonsothermum · 21/03/2016 23:17

It's a classic, isn't it Lambrini??!!

JanetOfTheApes · 21/03/2016 23:18

I see. I'm too tired and pissed off to get the joke, sorry Blush

It's just the worst kind of begrudgery, to try and diminish someone who has achieved something none of us would ever attempt. Who cares if you think its mental, or weird, or if he's doing it to prove something or fill a void...who cares if any of that is true and who cares what you think? Come back to us when you've personally raised millions for charity and maybe we'll give a flying fuck.

HooseRice · 21/03/2016 23:18

I can't be arsed with Eddue Izzard but he's done a good thing, can't take that away from him.

Imagine the blisters?

Crabbitface · 21/03/2016 23:19

Running, charity work, intellect - AMAZING!!

Wading in to Inderef - eejitry !

Saying he came out as transgender 30 years ago - perplexing?

Generally pretty amazing though so YABU.

The problem is that every time something does something amazing the bar gets raised. If he was just doing a couple of marathons people would be a bit "meh, seen that already."
I think what he has done is incredible. And maybe there is some need for validation in what he's done but you could say the same about most people's actions any day of the week.

bibbitybobbityyhat · 21/03/2016 23:19

Chipped - my thoughts are total bullshit to you (I fully accept) however they are not to me and I am not being goady. They are genuinely felt. I have seen EI live three times, including when he was first starting out and playing pub venues. Would always have classed myself as a massive fan.

OP posts:
LogicalThinking · 21/03/2016 23:20

I think the recognition he is receiving is about as well deserved as it is possible to get!
Quietly donating millions would be very nice, but he does so much more for the cause by doing something extraordinary and raising 1.5 million in the process.
I think he is amazing.

bibbitybobbityyhat · 21/03/2016 23:21

He isn't transgender ?

PoorHarryHaddow · 21/03/2016 23:22

What validation were you looking for in starting this thread?

Italiangreyhound · 21/03/2016 23:22

I think he is amazing for doing those marathons and raising that money.

I don't always like his humour but some of it is brilliant.

The fact he can run those marathons is incredible! How can anyone find fault with that!

MagzFarquarson · 21/03/2016 23:22

Oh fgs, he's done an amazing thing for an amazingly altruistic reason .

You've 'gone off him a bit'? I bet he'll be completely inconsolable when he hears that!

He was always the supreme Action Transvestite and now he's the best at what he's doing - he's a total legend.

JanetOfTheApes · 21/03/2016 23:23

Would always have classed myself as a massive fan

But there is something about his charity work that changed that? Bullshit.

I don't know why this is bothering me so much, not like I know the man. I suppose its just the last in a long line of "what the fuck is wrong with you people?" reactions to threads. Makes you wonder if the supposedly nice people you talk to every day are actually complete shits who are nasty about even the best people.

bakeoffcake · 21/03/2016 23:23

I clicked on this thread thinking he'd done something dreadful after running 27 marathons on the trot.
But no, you've gone off him because he ran 27 marathons.Confused

Very odd.

ciabattav0nbreadstickz · 21/03/2016 23:24

I saw the thing about him being transgender, isn't that wrong? He's transsexual not transgender?

ciabattav0nbreadstickz · 21/03/2016 23:26

^not transsexual, transvestite! Autocorrect and brain fail!

BertrandRussell · 21/03/2016 23:26

He is not transgender or transsexual!
