Aibu about being offered a tenner for this? (Pic included)

I was just merrily munching away on my lunch when I felt something sharp cut the inside of my mouth, spat out the offending article and it was a stone, in fact there were two, inside the homous I bought this morning from sainsburys.
Called the customer care line, they're sending me out a tenner to say sorry. Would you be ok about this or mightily pissed off and expect a different outcome?

The company that produces it will probably get a big fine for that.
There should be an investigation as to how the stone got into the pot of houmus.
You may not be told what the outcome is.

Bet you wont see that tenner. I was offered a tenner after the changing room asst called me fat (I was 32 weeks pg) and it never turned up.
They should really offer you a fuck tonne more than that. What if a child ate it? What if the cut goes manky?

I think a tenner's ok. I'd be more worried that they didn't ask you for batch number or where and when you bought it.

I second leelu66 suggestion. I had a problem with a member of staff at Sainsbury's and joined tweet just to vent. Got an almost immediate response asking for the store and promising me a call back. Got a written apology and a £25 gift voucher. I think your problem is worse than mine so would expect at least that.

I did get the voucher by the way, the left it at customer service counter for me to collect.

Luckily it was in the homous on my plate not my 3 year olds. I think they should at least want to know where the heck the stones came from?!

i had a caterpillar in my McTasty (many years ago before camera phones) i was torn between disgust and being pleased that something in my burger had at one time has a brush with nature. luckily i always open up a burger to remove the onions so i didn't eat the poor creature. they sent me £20 vouchers. I have always regretted missing my chance of DM sadface fame.

If you've reported the stones, they will investigate where they from, and the company that supplied the food will be fined. You likely won't be told the outcome, but it will be investigated.

From a compensation point of view, it's awarded based on what did happen rather than what could have happened - so there were stones in your food and you've reported it, and they've offered you a tenner. You can accept that if you're happy with £10 plus an investigation, or reject it and see if they offer you something better. They aren't under any obligation too but Sainsbury's usually have good customer service.

My mum once broke a tooth/large filling on a stone that was in some food (can't remember exactly what now, but it was from a supermarket). The tooth had to be repaired at enormous cost - she complained to the supermarket and sent them the stone, and they paid for all her dental work and gave her some vouchers.

So I would say definitely worth pursuing for more compensation, especially if you big up the details (risk of infection from the cut etc etc etc).

I got a tenner from Maynards as their gums had all these (stone) hard lumps of concentrated gum in them, nearly lost my crown. I had to spend the tenner voucher on their products though (since they are owned by Kraft, I boughts lots of Cadburys stuff).

I had simillar in potato salad from Morrison's. They investigated and informed me that the 'stones' were large pieces of limescale from the cooking process. They gave me £15.

I discovered a thumb-sized slug in my salad once. I'll never forget how it streeeetched when I uncovered it from its sleep, having already eaten half the salad. They gave me a fresh salad when I complained.

Not quite the same thing, but my cars' wheel covers were wrecked by a Sainsbury's car wash. I complained, they tried to fob me off, (twice!), but I just made a nuisance of myself and they coughed up the cost of a new set.

I think I would just like them to give a bit of a shit that there are stones in their food products! I'm not out for cash. I have called my local environmental health who have said in no uncertain terms am I to return it to sainsburys. They want the homous and the stones and to do their own investigation.

They just offered you a tenner over the phone? Haven't you been asked to return it?

I was told they would send me a ten pound gift card in the post. I was going to return the homous anyway.

Bagpusss That's disgusting. I would have wanted more than a fresh salad!

I bought a pint of milk from Asda which was off when I opened it - it was THREE months out of date!! They could not understand how that had happened and were checking the bar code I think to make sure it was one of the same. I was more annoyed that I had to go back out for 1 pint of milk and got a £5 voucher. As pp said, they would have been fined if it had been spotted during an inspection.

I would be requesting more action about the stones if I could be bothered.

I found paper in a chocolate chip cookie and got £20 of free cookie coupons. Otoh, I complained that my train smelled of shit, at length and humorously, in writing, and got £25 of rail vouchers. £10 seems a bit low.

I got about £15 from waitrose after finding a cricket-like insect in a pot of salad so a tenner sounds about standard. I think mine was 10 times the cost of the pot. They asked me to take it in to the local store for investigation.

What have you lost that you feel you should be compensated for?

Id be more concerned with making sure they conducted an investigation into how it got in there and how they were making sure it wouldn't happen again, than making a compensation claim.

I said I wasn't interested in cash lottie, I also said I thought they should want to know how the stones got in there.......RTFT
