To think changing bedsheets once a week is ott

Another week has whizzed past, feels like yesterday I changed all the beds. They look and smell fine, surely if I only change beds once every 2 weeks we will still all survive. I could spend 30 minutes with my feet up drinking tea once in a while. Aibu?

Generally weekly, at the weekend, because fresh, ironed sheets are such a treat. Washed at 60C, as are towels, for hygiene reasons; line dried if the weather permits. Duvet turned back all day, every day, to air. And more often if anyone has a cold.

sparechange · 10/03/2016 11:20

BigDamn
No, same set up for me, and every friend I've ever stayed with
The only person I know who uses a top sheet is MIL, but she has fancy sateen satin duvet covers, so it is nice to have a bit of cotton next to my skin

GoblinLittleOwl · 10/03/2016 11:20

One person, female, not necessary (usually).
Two people, necessary. Particularly if one is male.
Which reminds me.....(goes to change sheets)

limitedperiodonly · 10/03/2016 11:22

DH sends bed linen to the laundry. He has a work account so bungs our stuff in too.

It is lovely getting a burst of that freshly washed smell on opening plastic packages of neatly folded and ironed linen. I hate the folds though, so I iron them out while watching something soothing like The Walking Dead.

chilipepper20 · 10/03/2016 11:24

Trust me, you do sweat- just because you don't see it or smell it, it is there.

if you don't see it, and you don't smell (I assume you can't taste, feel or hear it either), why does it matter?

I don't drool unless I have a blocked nose. brush your teeth before bed.

Personally I'm of the opinion that a bit if sweat and dead skin isn't going to kill anything one.

I am not a doctor but have several in the family. Not once have they mentioned death by bedsheet sweat and skin. I think you are right.

Jibberjabberjooo · 10/03/2016 11:26

I have enough washing with two small children plus work uniforms without washing my bedding twice a week.

seafoodeatit · 10/03/2016 11:27

Once a week at 90 degrees, we don't tumble dry as they air dry quite quickly. I try and get the duvet and pillows to a launderettes for a wash ever couple of months but it's tricky finding the time.

burblish · 10/03/2016 11:29

We change our bed linen once a week but never bother with ironing it.

chilipepper20 · 10/03/2016 11:29

That has to add up! I do have a few friends who genuinely enjoy housework but for me it is a drudgery that had to done

both dp and i work and have two dcs who seem to be whizzing around the city for activities. clean sheets (and ironed?!?!) may be a treat, but so is my time. keeping on the top of the basic clean up is all I can do.

Washed at 60C, as are towels, for hygiene reasons

what are those reasons?

mudandmayhem01 · 10/03/2016 11:30

Can I ask why you wash at 90 degrees, doesn't that destroy your bedding and cost a fortune? I didn't even wash nappies at 90 degrees!

stumblymonkey · 10/03/2016 11:32

I'm interested to know how people who do weekly or more frequent manage to avoid their homes looking like a laundry?

We have no tumble drier so when sheets are washed we have pillowcases on the airing rack, the bottom sheet hung over a door and the duvet cover hanging over the bannister.

That's just for one bed....

If there's no tumble drier or space for line drying outside (or its winter)....how do people manage?

jlivingstone · 10/03/2016 11:33

Ours are changed every Monday and Thursday unless something extra-ordinary happens.

I changed them more frequently than weekly when I was a student FGS!

madamginger · 10/03/2016 11:36

All the beds get change every Saturday, it's DH job when I'm at work. We don't iron sheets though. The DC have 3 sets of clean bedding each in case of bed wetting/vomit, and we have 2 for ours.
The beds get vacuumed once an month and I wash the pillows every couple of months or so

Cornishclio · 10/03/2016 11:42

I change the bottom sheet and top pillow cases every week and turn the duvet cover over weekly and wash the duvet cover and bottom cases every two weeks.

SatsukiKusakabe · 10/03/2016 11:42

stumbly monkey we hang duvet cover over the banister and the other over aired in kitchen overnight, dry in morning, put away. Kids ones the night before, fit on the airers. Easier in Summer obv they just go out.

SatsukiKusakabe · 10/03/2016 11:43

We do all drying in the evening, out away in the morning so nothing hanging around in the day. Rarely do we have stuff hanging about, maybe one or two things like jeans.

Cornishclio · 10/03/2016 11:43

We do have a tumble dryer but rarely use it. In the winter we tend to dry sheets etc either on an airer over the bath or the bannisters.

Whatthefreakinwhatnow · 10/03/2016 11:44

Re getting everything washed and dried- I have two beds,1 kingsize and 1 single; and a cot that get changed after 2 nights. All of these fit together in 1 wash (12kg washer). If its dry our I'll hang them and then finish them in the tumble dryer, if not they ho straight in the dryer for an hour and then they are done, fold and put away til I need them next. I definitely don't iron them all, I don't have time!! But I do for guests Smile

LittleCandle · 10/03/2016 11:46

I change mine when I remember or feel like it. Pretty regularly, but no more than every 2 weeks.

I have just changed the cats' bedding and they are less than pleased about it... It definitely doesn't get done often enough - usually because they are in their baskets when I have the time and inclination to do it.

PregnantAndEngaged · 10/03/2016 11:46

I'm terrible for this.. I just forget. Probably once a couple of months.

PregnantAndEngaged · 10/03/2016 11:47

Though this thread has now reminded me to do it. Off to do it now. Haha.

Fillybuster · 10/03/2016 11:47

Every week, and our towels as well. It's the job I most hate doing in the whole wide world so outsourced it to our lovely cleaner many years ago. She also irons the sheets, and it is vair vair lovely to go to bed on freshly laundered, ironed sheets every Friday.

Back in the days when I DIYed I aimed for weekly but it frequently occasionally slipped slightly.

And as a student it was once or twice a term. If that. Shock

twilightcafe · 10/03/2016 11:51

My bedlinen is changed once a week ideally - no later than once a fortnight. Otherwise the bed smells stale when you get in.
I have started ironing my pillowcases - they're pure cotton and look crisp and lovely when they're done.

Larastheme · 10/03/2016 11:55

Twice a week for bed linen,
Every day for towels

Greengardenpixie · 10/03/2016 11:57

Once a month. I have always tons of washing and would find it hard to dry them. I would love my sheets changed weekly but really dont have the energy!
