To think changing bedsheets once a week is ott

Another week has whizzed past, feels like yesterday I changed all the beds. They look and smell fine, surely if I only change beds once every 2 weeks we will still all survive. I could spend 30 minutes with my feet up drinking tea once in a while. Aibu?

Ohio, I clean mine and DS bedsheets 3 times a week. I need to cut down.

Lweji · 14/03/2016 10:08

I'm in awe of people who know how long each step in changing beds takes.
Did you time it?
I'm tempted to do it next time.

MerryMarigold · 14/03/2016 10:54

Lweji, I did not time, I guessed, but I've done it for so long, I think it's fairly accurate. Possibly 2 mins walk to machine was overkill, but our bedroom is in the loft, with uncarpeted stairs (need to be careful walking down with a bunch of washing) and the machine is in garage, which needs to be unlocked so I don't think it was that far out. That's why I estimated 23-30 mins. There's a big window in there, but I really do think Hmm to someone that can do the whole process of washing and changing in 7!

TheCrumpettyTree · 14/03/2016 10:58

I love how this is turning into a competition. I manage to change my sheets twice a week, I only have a 40 foot utility, three tumble driers, a school aged child, an ironing service and a flock of woodland animals to hang it out for me, but somehow I struggle on...

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeG0es · 14/03/2016 11:14

Not so easy when you've got the type if older child who keeps dozens of teddy bears, books, random bits of lego, random items of clothing in their not very accessible bunk bed. We have established the Ikea bag method now, dump entire contents of bed into giant Ikea bag (or two), lower down to the ground, strip bed, wash and dry sheets, remake bed, tip contents of Ikea bag back in minus any dirty clothes.

NightWanderer · 14/03/2016 11:32

We really need tickers on mumsnet

- 1 day, 3 hours and 29 minutes since I changed my bedsheets -

Mominatrix · 14/03/2016 11:38

not surprised people find weekly changing if sheets after reading the thread about how exhausting people find it to shower and wash hair.

Minimum weekly changing of sheets, which are ironed and put away. On days they are not changed, bed is aired
Towels changed daily.
Bath mats washed at least weekly
Tea towels changed daily

However, I have a tumble dryer and a cleaner who comes 3 times a week.

whois · 14/03/2016 11:57

I don't get how people don't have 12 minutes spare a week

Because it's a super King and takes much longer than 12 mins to stop and remake.

Then I have to listen to the god awful cheap and noisy washing machine do its 1.5h cycle. Twice cos the bedding doesn't quite fit in one cycle.

Then I have to have wet sheets hanging over the dining table and chairs for at least 24 hours to dry, in our 1 bed open plan living flat.

Fuck. That.

Arpege · 14/03/2016 13:47

12 minutes??? More like:

5 minutes to strip, into washer.

Half an hour later into drier

An hour later begin ironing

An hour after that finally finish ironing

15 minutes to remake the bed.

And that's for one bed!! = Fuk Dat Shit!

Lweji · 14/03/2016 14:26

NightWanderer

LOL (and yes, it was loud)

betsyderek · 14/03/2016 17:41

I am in my freshly made bed right now..actually it's bloody nice. Grin

Or you could get more that one set of bedding.
Strip bed 5 minutes.
Remake bed 10 minutes.

Then you chuck in the machine 1.5 hours
In the dryer 60 minutes
Iron
Put away for next time.
You don't have to wait for the washer to finish. You can do other stuff at the same time.

OnlyLovers · 14/03/2016 17:52

I change ours about once a month unless periods/sex etc make it necessary sooner. I'm aware this is probably skanky, but I'm too busy and life's too short to worry about it overmuch.

Having said that, I do LOVE the feeling of getting into clean sheets. I need a maid. Grin

Arpege · 14/03/2016 17:59

Pipbin having two sets doesn't save any time whatsoever as it still needs to be ironed at some point!

Pipbin · 14/03/2016 18:27

How does it take an hour to iron the bed linen?

Arpege · 14/03/2016 18:44

500tc Egyptian cotton percale.

It's a bitch.

Pipbin · 14/03/2016 19:11

Well if you will buy fancy arse stuff like that.....might I say that you've made you bed, you'd better lie in it.

G1raffe · 14/03/2016 19:15

Ironed!?!?

MissRabbitHasTooManyJobs · 14/03/2016 20:00

Couldn't sleep in a creased bed!!
But I do iron everything apart from bras and socks!! That's all I've ever known.
Would love to have a more relaxed attitude to laundry but unfortunately I haven't :(
Each to their own...

Lweji · 14/03/2016 20:00

You could also fold the sheets firmly and put them under something heavy until needed.

But, if you can, leave the sheets dripping and line dry them. Hardly any need to iron.

1 day, and about 22 hours since last putting fresh sheets in the bed.
Halo

IVolunteer · 14/03/2016 20:36

Lol I have to admit I did time it yesterday dd has an app on her phone. I can recommend timing your kid to do pretty much anything it somehow makes a boring task thrilling. My dd and her cousin compete how quickly they can make me a brew GrinWink

Arpege · 14/03/2016 20:37

Pipbin :)

26 hours since I last put fresh sheets on the bed... (shamed into it by this thread)

mrscee · 14/03/2016 20:38

I change them probably every 2-3 weeks or so, or when I remember. Life's to short for weekly changing. Plus I've got a whopping great super king size bed which is a killer to change the covers on I usually get tangled up in the duvet.

IVolunteer · 14/03/2016 20:43

Do you all do the inside out corner trick ?

hollinhurst84 · 14/03/2016 20:57
