To think changing bedsheets once a week is ott

Another week has whizzed past, feels like yesterday I changed all the beds. They look and smell fine, surely if I only change beds once every 2 weeks we will still all survive. I could spend 30 minutes with my feet up drinking tea once in a while. Aibu?

Were you all in hospital a while ago? Policy changed so all sheets should now be changed daily. But last year I think it changed?

seoulsurvivor · 10/03/2016 10:28

We're currently living in a studio and nowhere to dry anything and have to go to the laundromat to dry stuff. So we go fortnightly, sometimes less. Haven't died yet.

We sleep on the floor as well (we're in Korea) and it has done wonders for my back and I now think mattresses are a bit minging when you think about it.

TheFairyCaravan · 10/03/2016 10:28

Our's get changed, and ironed, every week. More often in the Summer.

DS2 is a student nurse they don't change sheets everyday in the trust he works in. We didn't when I was nursing (different trust) and they certainly don't when I'm in hospital, different trust again.

seoulsurvivor · 10/03/2016 10:30

Ironing sheets is such a waste of time. My mother insists she can feel the wrinkles. It would be a cold day in hell before I could be arsed with that.

stumblymonkey · 10/03/2016 10:33

I do mine every 2-3 weeks unless it's super hot in which case I might move to weekly.

Honestly changing every week is a very recent thing....really only since washing machines came into being.

No-one died or had skin conditions from it before then.

But then I'm very much a "there's much more important things in life than chores" sort of person.

Queenbean · 10/03/2016 10:35

Every week and I hoover the mattress and pillows every month. Less than every week is grim imo

Do you have a special vacuum cleaner for the pillows? If not, that is absolutely rank - using something that runs over the floor to clean your pillows

Pipbin · 10/03/2016 10:41

I change mine every week and I would feel skanky if I didn't.

However, you clearly won't die if you don't. I don't think 'not changing sheets often enough' has ever been recorded on someone's coroners report.

2016Hopeful · 10/03/2016 10:41

No you are not. I do mine every 2 weeks as it is far too much effort and time goes so fast!!! I and kids wear pajamas anyway so a limited amount of body is touching the bed!! I usually change the pillow cases more often though.

What about sofas, they never get washed and we sit/ lie on them?

LeaLeander · 10/03/2016 10:42

Every Tuesday & Friday without fail. Takes 10 minutes' effort.

SunLolly · 10/03/2016 10:45

I haven't done mine for ages - at least 4 weeks :)

fruitandvegbaskettablecloth · 10/03/2016 10:45

if you work full time and have just a washing machine (no tumble dryer or garage for one) and have small living space so no room for a foldy up airing rail, how the heck do you do it in winter?

OliviaDunham · 10/03/2016 10:47

I change mine weekly, sometimes more. However my DSis is a complete slattern and does hers and her DSs about every 6 months! I couldn't wait to change their bedding when I was cat sitting for them - it was truly disgusting, white sheets gone dark grey.

PerryHatter · 10/03/2016 10:49

fruitandveg over a banister, on radiators, etc. I'd imagine so anyway.

MyLocal · 10/03/2016 10:52

every week without fail, more frequently in summer or when the ancient cat has shared. If I am feeling frivolous I change the top pillow cases every day, so I can smell clean washing as I go to sleep.

limitedperiodonly · 10/03/2016 10:54

They changed my sheets every day when I was in hospital. It was a plastic mattress and I sweated like a pig.

purplefizz26 · 10/03/2016 10:58

I do ours once a fortnight. There are far more unhygienic things in the world than fortnightly washed bedding Grin

MentalLentil · 10/03/2016 10:58

This is a fun read! I change bedsheets probably every six weeks, use cloth handkerchiefs instead of tissues (clean one each day of course) and use a menstrual cup and cloth pants liners. I don't let people wear shoes indoors however -- no way am I going to clean mud off the floor every day! I shower roughly every second day. Obviously a total minger and slattern here!

I'm honestly amazed anyone would change sheets every three days. How many showers in a row do you use the same towel?

MentalLentil · 10/03/2016 11:03

And I have never in my life ironed a bed sheet. Not even for inlaws visiting. What a complete waste of precious time! Grin

spankhurst · 10/03/2016 11:03

Weekly-ish here BUT when I was a young thing I remember clearly looking at my bedsheets which had been a Christmas gift and thinking I should probably change them. It was June.

glueandstick · 10/03/2016 11:07

Now we no longer do our own washing it'll be twice a week. I love fresh ironed bed linen.

loosechange · 10/03/2016 11:08

Aim for weekly and fail miserably.

Didn't think of changing the sheets when I bought the DC bunk beds with overly snug mattresses. Bane of my life now.

BigDamnHero · 10/03/2016 11:11

Once a fortnight or so (basically, when I think 'hmm...it's been a while').

People have top sheets and bottom sheets? Am I the only one who just has a fitted sheet on their mattress, duvet cover on duvet and pillow case on each pillow?

YoJesse · 10/03/2016 11:12

Another bed changing thread to remind me I'm discusting. (and remind me to change the sheets tonight) Grin

JimmyGreavesMoustache · 10/03/2016 11:13

I change my bed weekly

The DC are at that golden age when they're not yet greasy, sweaty teens, nor weeing, snotty toddlers, so I am making the most of this by only doing theirs monthly.

mudandmayhem01 · 10/03/2016 11:20

Everyone is different but calling other peoples habits grim or rank ( no one here is saying every 6 months is fine) is rude and judgy . Some people ( probably mainly women) are their own worst enemies, no wonder people say they don't have time for hobbies, or seeing friends, or exciting sex. No it doesn't take long to change the sheets every three days but I suspect the people who do this also mop the floor every day, vacuum everyday, wash all items of clothing after each wearing etc, etc. That has to add up! I do have a few friends who genuinely enjoy housework but for me it is a drudgery that had to done ( and kept to a bare minimum Blush)
