To think changing bedsheets once a week is ott

Another week has whizzed past, feels like yesterday I changed all the beds. They look and smell fine, surely if I only change beds once every 2 weeks we will still all survive. I could spend 30 minutes with my feet up drinking tea once in a while. Aibu?

Kings, Guy's & St Thomas. Like I said, if you wanted them changed they would do it, otherwise it was once a week.

ohtheholidays · 10/03/2016 09:05

Yuck YWBU I have to change ours every week, honestly if I could I'd change them all twice a week but there's 7 of us so 6 beds and I'm ill and disabled.

If I wasn't ill and disabled I'd do it twice a week.

Peaceandloveeveryone · 10/03/2016 09:06

That's my trust, it's not standard policy. I am going to look in to this.

PennyHasNoSurname · 10/03/2016 09:06

When I was in hospital having the kids I was asked daily if I wantes my bed changed but always declined (in two nights) - theyve enough to do without changing clean sheets for more clean sheets.

Champagneformyrealfriends · 10/03/2016 09:08

Roughly once a week, though they're a bit overdue at the minute. I'm 35 weeks pregnant and I cba Grin

Jibberjabberjooo · 10/03/2016 09:14

I've never worked on a children's ward where sheets were routinely changed everyday. If they're looking mucky or have fluids on them then yes but otherwise no.

AliceInUnderpants · 10/03/2016 09:16

I try to do ours at least every 2 weeks. I physically can't do it as often as I'd like - which would be once a week without fail.

BoyGirlBoy3 · 10/03/2016 09:18

I am in love with #naughtypantsdeer, i sometimes hoover beds with the sheets on, job done....

caitlinohara · 10/03/2016 09:21

Always once a week here, and on a Monday because it reminds me of my Nanna. I hate myself for starting to iron sheets though, I never used to and then I started and now cannot go back because it is sooo much nicer.

Notso · 10/03/2016 09:22

I've never had sheets changed daily in hospital but I can see why they would be. It's completely different circumstances to the average house though.

cleaty · 10/03/2016 09:24

Hospitals now change sheets every day. But the majority of patients in hospital are elderly and some continence issue is very common.

drspouse · 10/03/2016 09:25

Our cleaner does ours once a week. The cleaner has switched days so DS is no longer home that afternoon to have "a rest" in Mummy and Daddy's bed and oh the joy at getting in clean sheets that nobody else has jumped about in, every single week.

srslylikeomg · 10/03/2016 09:25

Every two weeks. If I can be arsed. We are all healthy, no coughs, rarely colds never d and v nothing. I say its positively a benefit to be a skank.

DoesAnyoneReadTheseThings · 10/03/2016 09:26

Fucking hell loads of you must be terrified of sitting on your sofa, imagine how much sweat and skin and fart there is in that!

Peaceandloveeveryone · 10/03/2016 09:26

I can only find Derby trust policy online easily, it says no longer than three days for any patient. Immediate change for fluid spills etc, most beds have some sort of venflon incident. I am trying to find infection control studies as interested in how this has come about. Quite shocked that some are being left a week. Are people refusing the bed changes or are they not being offered?

bettyberry · 10/03/2016 09:27

I don't use a duvet, have two flat sheets, a thin quilt and a blanket. The flat sheet that goes over me goes on as the bottom sheet and I only wash that one plus pillowcases. The thin quilt is machine washed every couple of weeks with the blanket.

I'd use a duvet but they make me too hot. Even the lowest tog ones and they never feel heavy enough. I need a heavy blanket to settle well.

my washing pile from bedding is never huge. DC use duvets though but hates duvet covers so I end up washing the whole duvet every week. Its not as bad as it sounds.

We are weird with how we like our beds here! Grin

Notso · 10/03/2016 09:27

Sheets etc are always ironed here, especially now 15 yo DD does the ironing. Ironed sheets is part of the clean sheet experience for me.

starry0ne · 10/03/2016 09:28

I change fortnightly one week mine next week DS's..IF we have been ill more likely to do them when better..More often in summer when can put them on line.. no drier so hung around the house drying...No very good for you either.

Drinksforeveryone · 10/03/2016 09:30

I do ours when I think they need it.

DS has nosebleeds quite often - so his need changing more.

Ours - I change when I think they start to smell like they need it.

In summer I might wash more frequently - no tumble drier here.

crusoe16 · 10/03/2016 09:35

Every Monday without fail. Ours and the kids. I send them to a laundry and they come back beautifully pressed. I love Mondays.

WanderingTrolley1 · 10/03/2016 10:14

Yanbu.

Sheets get changed here less than once a week. A few weeks less (at least).

Tywinlannister · 10/03/2016 10:16

Hospital beds aren't changed daily, I laid in my own blood unable to move until my DM changed them because no one else gave a crap!

Can I also say, it is bloody hard work if you are little and you have a big bed. My arms at full stretch aren't the same width as the duvet cover so I have to burrow in to the cover to get to the corners. I'm sweating at the end. So I change mine every 2 weeks. Shoot me Grin

AdoraBell · 10/03/2016 10:20

You and yours will survive OP

YABU, however, to only want 30 mins with your feet up and a cuppa once in a while

HTH Grin

ICanSeeForMiles · 10/03/2016 10:21

Is it just me that gets secretly pissed off when dh wants to have sex on the day I've put fresh covers on?! I want it to stay as pristine as possible Blush

PerryHatter · 10/03/2016 10:28

ICanSee that would piss me off too Grin

I feel on fresh bedsheet day, you should be freshly bathed with washed hair Blush

Once a week for me. I feel the beds a bit grubby after that.
