To think changing bedsheets once a week is ott

Another week has whizzed past, feels like yesterday I changed all the beds. They look and smell fine, surely if I only change beds once every 2 weeks we will still all survive. I could spend 30 minutes with my feet up drinking tea once in a while. Aibu?

I do mine weekly and mire often in between thanks to hot flushes that mean I sweat some nights.
If you're happy that with what you do then that's fine. You could turn the duvet over half way through to help.

GreatFuckability · 10/03/2016 07:45

Every Christmas.

carabos · 10/03/2016 07:46

Every week. When I win the lottery the housemaid will change them every day. Same applies to towels.

cruikshank · 10/03/2016 07:50

My parents change their sheets once every 2 weeks. I don't know how often they used to do them, but I have distinct memories of going into their bed and it smelling. I think people become 'nose-blind' as the advert says.

roundaboutthetown · 10/03/2016 07:50

Fortnightly. Why on earth are people so disgusted by their own sweat and skin? If it smells fresh, I don't care if there happens to be microscopic evidence of my existence on it.... Bath towels also fortnightly - all they do is dry squeaky clean bodies... What do people who think it is gross not to wash them weekly or more often actually think will happen if they wash these things less often, other than saving on washing powder, water, electricity and (if no tumble dryer) hanging space?

PennyHasNoSurname · 10/03/2016 07:52

Two weekly. Kids beds (16mo and 4yo) every three weeks or so - they dont sweat or sick or anything)

GrumpyOldBag · 10/03/2016 07:55

Bottom sheets and top pillowcases every week.

Duvet cover every 2 weeks - flip it over on sheet changing day so the other side is in contact with the body.

I also wash at 30 degrees and don't tumble dry or iron. Because I care about the environment (and our electricity bills).

GrumpyOldBag · 10/03/2016 07:56

Kids beds get done every 2 weeks.

They wear pyjamas and go to bed clean.

Fluffy40 · 10/03/2016 07:56

When ds sheet looks bad, I chuck it away and buy him a new one...

CigarsofthePharoahs · 10/03/2016 07:57

Fortnightly for me. I could get away with further apart were it not for dh. He spent several weeks using our sofa bed recently as he had the worst cough "in the world" and was disturbing absolutely everyone. When it got to bed changing day I noticed my bed was still neat and tidy and just didn't look like it had been two weeks since changing.
I wish I had the energy for more often, but I just don't. To be honest, I could change my toddlers bed maybe once every two months as he spends so little time in it.

Moving15 · 10/03/2016 08:00

Yanbu. Nothing wrong with Lying in two weeks of skin flakes and dribble!

Branleuse · 10/03/2016 08:02

I do ours when they start getting a bit shiney

boredofusername · 10/03/2016 08:05

Doesn't it depend a bit if you wear pyjamas? We all do and I change our sheets every 2 weeks. Ds sometimes every week as he's smellier than we are (13 year old boy!). If you don't wear anything in bed you would need to change more often.

Janeymoo50 · 10/03/2016 08:05

I only iron the bedding if guests are staying. My girlfriend irons tea towels and my pyjamas too (I've told her she's mad).

Jibberjabberjooo · 10/03/2016 08:08

Every two weeks. I don't have time to change it several times a week and where am I meant to put endless wet sheets? No tumble dryer and it rains most days. We're far too obsessive about our own sweat when we're asleep,

dudsville · 10/03/2016 08:11

You won't die. The yearly bathers, more recently the folks who only bathed on a Sunday, they were all fine too.

Notso · 10/03/2016 08:15

Yanbu Nothing wrong with Lying in two weeks of skin flakes and dribble*

If you think of it like that then surely even an hours worth of skin flakes and dribble becomes disgusting so maybe we should start changing the sheets hourly, or why not just skin ourselves and dehydrate what's left, far more hygienic.
If only there was a way to clean our bodies after lying in bed...

whois · 10/03/2016 08:19

getting into clean bedsheets is lovely, so in an ideal work every week would be nice.

However we aim for every 2 weeks although that sometimes slips to 3.

myusernamewastaken · 10/03/2016 08:20

I dont have a rigid routine...i change mine and the kids when i can be arsed or when they start to smell a bit iffy.....same for towels...I do not believe in making work for myself....life is hard enough as it is.....to the poster who is doing hers every 3 days....get a life !!!!

MackerelOfFact · 10/03/2016 08:20

Every 2-3 weeks here. I shower before bed and change pyjamas most nights so the amount of grim is limited.

Apart from anything else I don't have the space to be constantly drying bedsheets, especially in the winter (no tumble dryer).

MackerelOfFact · 10/03/2016 08:21

I meant grime, but grim works too. Grin

Oly5 · 10/03/2016 08:22

I do what my mum did for her entire life - every two weeks, maybe a bit more in summer. Never killed anyone. Bacteria is EVERYWHERE. Life is toxic, I think people should get over it Smile

Sallystyle · 10/03/2016 08:22

YANBU

2-3 weeks here.

More often for one of my teens who sweats loads.

OliviaStabler · 10/03/2016 08:23

Every week here. It does not take long and the washing machine does the hard work.

Lweji · 10/03/2016 08:24

I'm happy with two weeks or more in winter because we use pjs. Pillowcases every week.
In summer it's every week, although I could do less for mine as I don't sweat in bed, whereas DS does.
