To think changing bedsheets once a week is ott

Another week has whizzed past, feels like yesterday I changed all the beds. They look and smell fine, surely if I only change beds once every 2 weeks we will still all survive. I could spend 30 minutes with my feet up drinking tea once in a while. Aibu?

Once a week!

oldlaundbooth · 10/03/2016 12:48

DH loves the smell of fanjo sheets....

CrystalMcPistol · 10/03/2016 12:48

'I went round a friend's house once and they didn't even have a dust cover over the pillows they were due to sleep on that night!'

As soon as anyone enters my house I throw a dust cover over them. It's the civilized way!

I think this links in with another mumsnet divide - whether you sleep in underwear/pjs or not.

Presumably if you sleep naked you will need to change sheets more and think everyone else ought to.

If you wear pants/pjs and change those regularly less need to change sheets surely.

betsyderek · 10/03/2016 12:51

9 cats and 6 dogs and us all spend a lot of time in our massive bed. Usually change it weekly or sometimes fortnightly. I quite like the smell of slightly feety sheets.

G1raffe · 10/03/2016 12:51

And presumably how often you have sex....

KayTee87 · 10/03/2016 12:52

Every 2 weeks (unless theyre dirty) used to do it every week but just don't think it's needed. We both bath/shower before bed, regularly change pj's and pull duvet down every morning to air bed.
Don't have the time to do it every weekend.

gandalf456 · 10/03/2016 12:54

I can't remember when I last changed them but I go by how they feel and smell!

Anyway, I like to think I'm doing my bit for the environment by not always having the washing machine on [/] wanker []

KayTee87 · 10/03/2016 12:55

Got to add when we were ttc it was more often and if it's hot in summer it's more often.

sparkleface · 10/03/2016 12:56

Every week if I'm being particularly on the ball and houseproud, in more normal circumstances every fortnight or so.

I am confused about ironing sheets and duvet covers. In my dream world where I am a Good Housekeeping Goddess, I would do this, but the few times I have tried it has taken

a) about an hour and
b) ended up with half the duvet draping all over the floor and getting crumpled and dirty again.

How DOES one iron a kingsize duvet effectively?

in all honesty, I still won't do it, but I would like to know how it is possible

HormonalHeap · 10/03/2016 12:58

Twice a week cleaner does it

KayTee87 · 10/03/2016 13:00

Sparkle I would never iron sheets. In the winter they're tumble dried and shaken out while still warm in summer they're shaken out whilst damp then hung on line. Find they don't get creased that way.

girlandboy · 10/03/2016 13:06

How the hell do people manage to change all the beds and say "it only takes 5 minutes"???

I have a kingsize and 2 singles to change and I'm not slow, but it takes considerably longer than 5 minutes! and I need a lie down afterwards

CauliflowerBalti · 10/03/2016 13:06

Someone washes towels every day?

I want to be that someone. Imagine that!

CauliflowerBalti · 10/03/2016 13:07

Fucking hate changing the bedsheets. Hate hate hate. I aim for every week. Every 10 days is what tends to happen.

And ironing them? Funny!

getyourfingeroutyournose · 10/03/2016 13:07

I didn't read through all the comments but it's recommended to do every 2-3 weeks the last I checked. As long as you make and air your beds each morning I don't see why you would need to change bed sheets every few days or every week.

Leta86 · 10/03/2016 13:10

Once a week without fail. I'm very OCD about my bed. Always shower before bed, no electronics in the bedroom, banned anything remotely scented except fabric softener. But that's just me. My mum changed them fortnightly and I hated it, always finding a way to sneak mine in the wash every week.

MerryMarigold · 10/03/2016 13:13

LOL. I do mine every couple of months. No-one has said I smell! We all wear Pyjamas in bed. Maybe if we were naked, I'd do it more often, but I don't wash my coat once a week either.

stumblymonkey · 10/03/2016 13:13

Please tell me Flashbang's post is humour....it is, right? Right?

It made me laugh a lot anyway Grin

Hygellig · 10/03/2016 13:16

I don't have a routine for changing the bedding but tend to do it when I think it is about time. So probably about every 2-3 weeks. The cat sleeps on the bed as well but we haven't yet perished in the night suffocated by our own filth.

BastardGoDarkly · 10/03/2016 13:17

So why duvet covers only weekly flash ? you slattern!

Kids every fortnight, us around the same, maybe couple of days later.

Hygellig · 10/03/2016 13:19

Actually I think that I could just use these bedding threads as a reminder. I could change the bedding every time I see one and that would probably be about the right interval!

LaContessaDiPlump · 10/03/2016 13:23

It takes me at least 45 minutes to do three double beds! Are we talking about just changing the base sheet, or pillowcases and duvet cover too? 'cos if it's base sheet only then I understand where the '5 minutes' assertion comes from....

mithy · 10/03/2016 13:24

Every fortnight, more often in the summer. Superking, cotton and always ironed. DH's pillowcase weekly, not sure what he does to it.

TheMrsD · 10/03/2016 13:26

I changed all the beds today because you're making me feel like a stinker. I didn't want to.
