And if it took longer the second time?

After DC1 my body went back to normal within 24hours of giving birth (flat tummy, no stretchmarks or saggy skin) and I wore non-maternity clothes home from hospital. I'm 32.

Everyone says the second time is different!

lose!

BillBrysonsBeard · 09/03/2016 15:03

2 years past and bigger than ever Grin I ate well during pregnancy so wasn't that big after, it's the sleep deprivation afterwards that's made me binge on junk!

Lurkedforever1 · 09/03/2016 17:28

zame I'm not referring to people who have problems around food anyway, because of course that would continue in pregnancy. I'm genuinely curious as to why so many people give themselves permission iyswim to gain weight that they then want to lose post birth under the theory oh well I'm pregnant. I know not everyone has an appetite that self adjusts to activity levels, but people who manage well the rest of the time often seem to have a mental block when pregnant.

I'm not judging, just honestly curious why people who then go through the rigmarole of losing it after don't take the easier route of not gaining it in the first place. Eg is it the myth of eating for two? Or people who spend their lives strictly following a weight regime seeing pregnancy as the chance for a break?

ohtheholidays · 09/03/2016 17:37

With my first I went back within 6 weeks to a size 12.I had full blown pre-eclampsia and it took me ages to get all the excess water of my body it was horrible.

Second DC the same day I had him I was back in a size 10.
Third DC the same day I was back into a size 8.
Fourth DC the same day back into a size 6.
Fifth DC don't ask, still not back there Shock I did go back down by the time she was 6 months old but then 6 months later I became seriously ill, nearly died and ended up disabled. So what with having to go in a wheelchair all the time and all the meds I have to take I've put lots of weight on.

Thefitfatty · 09/03/2016 17:46

Thanks to diastasis recti my figures never gone back. I'll forever have a c-section shelf and a baby belly. My weight was back to pre pregenency by my 10 day check up

SalemSaberhagen · 09/03/2016 17:50

I put on 5 and a half stone during pregnancy. 11 stone to 16.5. DD is 18 months old in a couple of weeks and I got back in my pre pregnancy jeans this weekend. Got no chance with my top half though, went from a D to a K during pregnancy and I'm still breastfeeding. They have stayed (sadly).

StrawberryMouse · 09/03/2016 18:05

Pretty much straight away for me with both although I can't enjoy it as much as I'd like as I got the dreaded stretch marks. Confused

Organon8 · 09/03/2016 18:06

3 days

StrawberryMouse · 09/03/2016 18:07

Agree with Bill, it wasn't the pregnancies themselves that were the struggle for me it was the temptation to sit around in a sleep deprived fog and mainline biscuits afterwards. Grin

sunnyshowers · 09/03/2016 18:10

6 weeks on dd but 6 months to toned belly (bikini belly fykwim)
Second time around I d twins and ate to keep myself going for first 12 months so about 18 months on them. ..
Mid 40s now so another battle rages

SovietKitsch · 09/03/2016 18:10

DC1 - wore my (size 10) jeans home from hospital; DC2 - about 6 months but severe emotional trauma kick-started the weight loss; DC3 - erm, watch this space...

MrsItsNoworNotatAll · 09/03/2016 18:12

Still waiting 14 years later.

Sorry, no help to you.

EllsTeeth · 09/03/2016 18:27

I shrank back down pretty quickly (a few weeks) both times, but I didn't put on much "weight" when pregnant apart from bump and fluid. I'm naturally slim and eat what I want and don't put on weight (when not pregnant). No stretch marks either but that's just down to luck and genes I think. I don't understand people saying they were back to their pre pregnancy shape after a couple of days though - surely the skin that has stretched etc needs time to tighten back up? My stomach was like a waterbed the first few days and took a few weeks to go completely back to normal!

DeathMetalMum · 09/03/2016 20:20

Dd1 was pretty quick, maybe a couple of months by the time she was one a lot of my old clothes were too big and staring to fall down. Thanks to breastfeeding and probably because I also didn't drink much alcohol at all compared to before I was pregnant. Dd2 is 3 and I'm no back to how I was 'before' I'm still slim and I'm good at hiding my lumps and bumps with clothes, but I very much have a 'mum tum' complete with stretchmarks etc. Other than walking everywhere, (several miles a day) I don't do a lot of specific exercise though, I imagine I could shape up a little more if I could be bothered wanted to.

Mrsleighdelamare · 09/03/2016 20:42

Pretty quickly I suppose in terms of how soon i was back in normal clothes but let's just say that unclothed things are definitely not the same - three kids take their toll on your body. Split stomach muscles, c-section, varicose veins....

Pretty fit now though. As in health-wise, not as in 'I am fit as fuck'.

TheFormidableMrsC · 09/03/2016 20:45

3 years with DD (nearly 18), 2 weeks with DS (now five). I think the difference was I learned my lesson the first time unnecessary four stone weight gain and was much more careful the second time round, particularly as I was in my forties by then. I was also much much fitter and continued to train right through to the end. That helped a lot.

oldlaundbooth · 09/03/2016 21:07

I put on four stone. Like others I was unable to stop eating, I was constantly starving, it wasn't indulgent, I was always famished.

Don't know many who put on only a few pounds, unless they were very obese before conception.

Took me 6 months to lose.

Karoleann · 09/03/2016 21:13

silk - that is odd as it takes a few weeks for your uterus to contract.I suspect you might have forgotten who long it actually took?

I was 31 with DC1 and it took about 5 months to get back to my pre-preg weight, no saggy skin or stretch marks either.

DC2&3 5-6 months; still no stretch marks, but more saggy skin each time and I would only wear a bikini in very exceptional circumstances now, but I still have a nice figure.

I don't tend to loose all the weight until I stop bfing.

workedoutforthebest · 09/03/2016 21:26

Two weeks with all of my children.

workedoutforthebest · 09/03/2016 21:29

Ahh, posted too soon. It took two weeks with mine but for some r reason after having children, could not really eat a lot for a few weeks (not intentional, just felt sicky) & was breast-feeding.

snottagecheese · 09/03/2016 21:44

Weight-wise, about 8 months with DC1; with DC2 I had lost all baby weight and a further 3-4lb within 3 months of giving birth - go figure. Maybe because DC2 was EBF, whereas DC1 was mix-fed, with the emphasis on bottles. Who knows?

Figure-wise, though, my body will never be the same as it was - largely due to the skin on my belly being super-wrinkly now when I lean forward (it looks okay when I'm standing up straight). Guess you can't s-t-r-e-t-c-h it out like that twice without some consequences! And while, pre-DC, I used to wish I had bigger boobs, the fact that my mini-boobs remain unchanged by pregnancy and breastfeeding means I'm much happier about them these days...

iMogster · 09/03/2016 21:49

Before DS1 I was slim, fit and had never really had to watch my figure. I carried on with gym and Pilates as long as I could.

I put on 1 1/2 stone and then a bit more during bf due to sitting about too much. Took 18 months to get back. Pretty flat stomach, no loose skin-probably as lost weight slowly.

I put on 2 stone with second pregnancy. I had a lot of trouble walking and moving about in last trimester due to SPD. I damaged my pelvis during vaginal birth and could barely move for the first year and wasn't able to get back to doing proper exercising until 2 1/2 years after birth. My DS is now 3 1/2 and I have lost 1 1/4 stone and doing well. I think I will get my weight back down in the next few months.

I don't have the same shape. My back is broader and my ribcage is bigger.

I bf both DC for 6 months and still have pretty good boobs, not saggy, but not as pert as before.

I am short in the body and my bumps were big and all at the front. But I still had zero stretch marks.

mumofthemonsters808 · 09/03/2016 21:49

Lurked-I was just very, very hungry throughout my pregnancy, I don't know why my appetite increased to the extent it did. I've never eat to that extent in my whole life. I was ravenous and I'm talking about being hungry as soon as I opened my eyes. I eat breakfast and supper which is something I never do.As soon as I'd had my baby, the hunger disappeared and I went back to my normal eating habits. I didn't happen with my second baby.Very strange, I was also very active throughout both pregnancies because I was lucky in that I felt very well.

biggles50 · 09/03/2016 21:53

Two weeks for each of my four kids. I didn't work hard at it and thought I'd be large like my mum. My stomach is sort of pouchy but Hubby still fancies me so not bothered.

Sadmother · 09/03/2016 21:54

I was the same as you first time around, but probably close to a year the second time.
