Aibu to leave a snotty note on my door for post woman

We moved into this house 5 months ago.

And ever since the post woman won't ring the bell!

So if we have parcels ( which is often) we end up having to go get them from the sorting office 12 miles away!

We put a not under the bell saying please ring the bell.

Still we are getting ' you were not in' notes put through the door

I saw her the other day ( we can't see front door from lounge ) as I was coming in. She was putting a not in note through.

I told her my DH was in, and had she rung the bell ?

She insisted it didn't work. I pressed it and ding dong it worked.

Anyway took parcel and went in.

Yesterday yet again a not in notice.

So today I put a note on door saying

Royal Mail we are in. Please ring !

I'd make a complaint tbh.

She just shrugged, gave me the parcel and walked away.

I have asked neighbours if they are having the same problem, but no.

In fact they all take parcels for each other.

NDN had never been asked to take any for us.

We are nice honest. We don't growl and bite Posties.

Who do I complain too ?

Complain. This is such a pain in the arse. We've had this in the past. The sorting office is half an hours drive away!

State the times she's delivered a note instead of the parcel, and state the day you challenged her and rang the bell in front of her.

I had a postwoman like that, maybe you moved into my old house? Really annoying. I would put a note on the door.

I think you have to fill a form in now to authorise neighbours taking in parcels for you. It's not your issue I know, but might help you avoid the trip! Ask at the post office next time you're there.

Complain. They aren't supposed to do that. It's just a way of finishing quicker for the day.

Report her to your local depot

Kinkytoes the thing is at least one of us are in most days so no need to leave a parcel with anybody but us.

Will pick yesterday's parcel up today and ask to make a complaint.

Hmm. Funny you should say this.

I have a few different postmen/women. Most no problem at all. Just today I was in the living room and looked out the back through our conservatory, to see the postman in the close delivering to my neighbours. I waked into the hall to see a red card.

I opened my front door and walked round the side and said ' hello, you've got something for me?' .. ' oh we're you in the shower again? I did ring!'

Err no you didn't . I recognised him as the same postmen who's done this before. We live in a townhouse and I truly believe that he can't stand to ring the bell and wait thirty seconds for me to come down. We have a loud, working bell and he did NOT ring it today.

It's bloody annoying

Our postie pops the parcels next door with no form filling ever being done by us. And then puts the note through to say they've done so.

The thing is it sounds as if this one would rather jump out the van and bung a note through OPs door and drive off than rummage in the back for the parcel.

But yes, check to see if you need to fill in the form in your area OP. For when you ARE actually out! ;)

When we moved our postman used to cram letters through the (normal size) letter box so they got all crumpled.
We waited for him one morning and DP grabbed the letter as he shoved it through, opened the door and asked him why he couldn't put them in properly (he was polite but made it clear he was annoyed). Took his name too, although we didn't do anything with it. He didn't do it again.

If you ring the sorting office, you can request a redelivery (free). Details should be on your red card. I'm sure she'd start ringing the bell more often if she had to keep lugging the same parcels round every day!!

To be fair to the Postie's, I suspect they might be under unreasonable time constraints , and thirty seconds while the clock is ticking is a very long time .

One day I as standing at my living room window watching the postman walk down the path. I waved and he acknowledged me. When I went to the door to get the mail it was a missed delivery card. I opened the door and ran out but the bugger was out of sight. It was something that needed signed for and I don't think he even took it from the sorting office...

We only have the same 3 or 4 posties, I have an agreement with them that if I am not in, and I usually am, that they stick it under BBQ cover and leave me a note.

They do. We live off the road so the chance of it being seen or nicked is very remote.

I had a different issue in that our postman folded mail to put it through our letterbox. Always. Even when it was a tiny letter. We didn't have a tough letterbox or over furred one and it was actually slightly larger than standard.

I politely asked him after catching him one day if there was a problem with our letterbox to make him need to fold the letters. He mumbled and shuffled off. Kept folding our mail.

Royal mail sorted it very quickly when I complained (and they got a counter claim from moonpig who nicely replaced the special birthday card our postie had ruined).

We have had stealth postman before - it's really irritating. I presume they are so pressed for time sometimes it's quicker than actually delivering the parcel.
I don't think it's unreasonable to put a not up, it's something I have often done. Im very polite and include a few smilies etc. My notes say something along the lines of

Dear Postie, WE ARE IN, please ring and knock loudly. Thanks Smile

We had this last year when we had a new postman - everything was folded and put through the letterbox, and then not pushed through properly so it stuck in the box and was bent double, even birthday cards. I complained and was told that it was because our new letterbox was too stiff. I disputed this as we hadn't had a new letterbox, we're in a new build and all our neighbours have the same letterbox and at that time we'd been here for 4 years and hadn't had a problem with our old postie who'd delivered all the time we'd lived here. I said that the problem was more likely with the new postman as the problem had only started with him. We then had a letter stating that in future our mail would have to be collected from the sorting office as our letterbox wasn't acceptable! I complained about that as it would be a massive inconvenience and it was agreed that if the postman was having a problem then he'd ring the doorbell (I'm usually in). We then had another change of postmen and haven't had a problem since!
