To wish minecraft had NEVER BEEN INVENTED?

Just as Ds1 gets bored of it, ds2 gets hooked.

Years and years of hearing about the bloody thing, having to look at the latest creation, being nagged to "join" only to have arrows fired at me and the lovely things I build blown up with TNT.

AND to make matters WORSE - the fucking YouTube videos where they watch someone else play and yak all the way through it.

PISS OFF MINECRAFT. JUST PISS OFF!

AIBU?

I love the creative side and the fact that my little boy is so happy when he plays and is enjoying it so much. I just wish he'd STFU

Ds is now 14 and still plays it sometimes when his mates aren't around to play Black Ops or FIFA online for the creative input.
He got a cute furry creeper in his stocking this year.

rosyvalentine · 24/02/2016 23:05

It's on my phone, it's on my iPod, it's on my iPad, it's on my laptop, it's on the XBox. Arrrrghhh! And don't get me started on the YouTube tutorials and the most annoying voices ever! I can even hear them in my sleep... YANBU.

TheNoodlesIncident · 24/02/2016 23:08

One thing to beware of on those Youtube Stampy and Dan TDM videos - they use some questionable language and I'm positive I heard Dan call Dr Trayaurus a cunt in the "cloning Dr Trayaurus" episode.

My DS is only 7 and I have no wish to hear him come out with something like that. Because now he doesn't just play Minecraft or Roblox - HE HAS TO NARRATE EVERYTHING HE DOES LIKE STAMPY AND DAN

YellowTulips · 24/02/2016 23:09

Sorry but I love minecraft.

DS is into it and I love the creative aspect.

I'd much rather he was doing this than pestering me for GTO or assassins creed on Xbox (as some of his school friends do in their households).

It's kind of cute hearing him with his "minecraft gang" (school friends) all on the same sever on Skype building this world and working out (arguing/agreeing/discussing) what and how they will build. So from my POV it's creative, social and develops team working . That said come the spring I'd rather he was outside playing :-)

However - DanTDM drives me INFUCKINGSANE. I don't object to DS playing MC (within reason) but watching YouTube videos of someone else playing defeats the point imho and is strictly limited!!!

TattyDevine · 24/02/2016 23:12

They do get a lot of ideas and skills from the videos though YellowTulips. And it inspires them to play.

A bit like the Thomas the Tank Engine show...he'd watch it, then go and re-enact it on the train set. And it would give them ideas for playing with the train set. Same kind of thing.

TheRegularShow · 25/02/2016 00:53

Has anyone else kids got into 'five nights at Freddys' ?
It is scary and I'm amazed at how it keeps kids interested by checking video cameras trying to avoid jump scares.

LucyBabs · 25/02/2016 01:37

I seem to have escaped the worst of mine craft. My dc don't have access to the Internet and i pretend I have none on my phone Blush
Dc are 7 and 4 and only play creative so far, they have shown no interest in survival. Funny their school friends haven't mentioned Stampy? I feel lucky now! Grin

ChemicalReaction · 25/02/2016 04:06

I do think it is interesting that they now have tube heroes pyjamas. It used to be about celebrities from TV, then movies, now it has moved to you tube.

Ds doesn't even play minecraft anymore but still watches danTDM. DD who is five doesn't play either and stil watches his pug videos. (He has two btw!)

anklebitersmum · 25/02/2016 04:22

SO on board with you OP. My lot all play The Hunger Games with each other on Minecraft and the ensuing fights/squabbles and tantrums over "he/she's got my platinum this" or "he/she killed me on purpose" drive me insane.
Mind you, turning it off permanently is a very effective parenting stick to wave occasionally Wink

Bellygirl · 25/02/2016 07:17

You are blessed if you only have to watch Stampy and Dan TDM...my DS watches PopularMMOs oh my fucking god it is so annoying him and his wife Jen who continually shouts and screams and is over excited about EVERYTHING. Even thinking about it is making me angry...I've banned any PopularMMOs watching without headphones now!

SilentService · 25/02/2016 07:35

..... I am sick of ds1 barbecueing ds2's pigs or ds3 nicking ds1's armour etc (or any combination of ds's buggering up each others worlds online) and that this then seems to have to be resolved by thumping the brother in nearest reach and tears and howling. I have made a threat to delete accounts and world's..... Grrrrrr

icanteven · 25/02/2016 07:47

I love it & we've become quite attached to Stampy. :) I like that Squaishy confirms that it is a game for girls too, and my two love it. I'm v impressed by how good at it 4yo Dd is.

lougle · 25/02/2016 07:57

Stampy has been banned in this house. DD2 (8) was getting obsessed and her attitude was deteriorating at a fast rate of knots. Life is mush better without Stampy videos.

DeltaSunrise · 25/02/2016 08:53

I'm hoping we manage to skip this phase. Dc are 5 and nearly 7 here and they have never mentioned it or know what it is.

I babysat for 3 girls once, 2 were playing it on the Xbox, one on the iPad. They tried to explain it to me but I didn't have a clue. It was just so boring and well meh.... They were absolutely glued to it though.

At home, I just have to deal with who killed who on purpose in Marvel superheroes (or something) the YouTube video walkthroughs for that are painful enough.

CalliopeTorres · 25/02/2016 09:03

DS 6 does a far too good impression of Stampy, he's only started watching him the last few weeks but I'm already fed up to the back teeth of his voice.

Feilin · 25/02/2016 10:14

Lmao at all of this. Just wait til they decide to start playing world of Warcraft

Lweji · 25/02/2016 10:28

I'm hoping we manage to skip this phase. Dc are 5 and nearly 7 here and they have never mentioned it or know what it is.

Good luck. You'll need it.

moosemama · 25/02/2016 11:05

Mine are still into Minecraft at 13 and 11 years old (very nearly 14 and 11).

Ds1 has ASD though and I do have to concede it's been amazing for his social skills - well once we'd dealt with all the problems with griefing. He has his own closed server and plays with a group of his and ds2's friends via skype, which gets around that problem.

schools use it to enhance learning in certain lessons. Ds1's school's computer club banned it for being too violent. Confused Mind you, they also banned a game where you had to pop bubbles, because you used a cannon/gun to do it. Hmm I believe, after a huge campaign by the new Y7 intake, they have recently reinstated Minecraft with their own server and enforced creative mode only on the club members.

Dd, who is 7, is a massive Dan TDM fan, but doesn't actually play Minecraft herself yet. The boys are more into Yogscast. None of us can stand Stampy.

Despite all that, YANBU re the endless droning on about it and hogging the TV to watch YouTube videos.

Germgirl · 25/02/2016 11:13

People who's children play Minecraft, do they also talk to their friends while playing? Dsd seems to spend most of her time here staring at her laptop, wearing headphones and SHRIEKING at the top of her voice to her friend who is playing the same game at her house 5 miles away. Not sure if they're on the phone or taking via the game but they're so loud! It's mostly "what's that? What's that? WHAT'S THAAAAATTTTTTT?", listening to a reply for 2 seconds and then back to "what's that?!", "don't break my wall!!", "what are you doing?!!" For hours and hours on end.
Apparently some boys from school invaded their land or whatever it's called last week. That caused a lot of shrieking.

moosemama · 25/02/2016 11:32

Germgirl I think it depends if they're playing on creative mode or not.

My boys tend to collaborate on building projects and creating worlds with their friends, so yes, there's a lot of chat and decision making involved. But they still shout, they both have gaming headsets with microphones, but for some reason seem to think they need to be loud enough for their friends to hear them from miles away, without wearing headsets. Hmm

Yokohamajojo · 25/02/2016 11:44

I don't mind them playing it (with the sound bloody off) but the discussions about it, the endless talk of what they did in it, the excitement about a pending update where you can have salmons...eh? just play it but stop talking about it

Germgirl · 25/02/2016 11:47

moose dh did mention to dsd that she hardly needs the microphone. Her mate could probably hear her without it. That just got an eye roll Smile
I don't understand Minecraft at all. Dsd is 10 & she says you can 'talk' to people you don't know on there? We've told her again and again to never give out any personal details etc. But it does worry me.

Madbythesea · 25/02/2016 11:48

Theregularshow- YES 5naF. I hate it but they love it!! argg!

I have 2 DDS they love minecraft!! they play on the TV youtube all the time, now gone off Stampy and balisticsquidbut love DanTTM popularMMO amylee33 all fun. I love DanTDM we love the pug videos- Ellie the pug, his wife is gorgeous and lovely. My girls want to grow up and have his job!

and our now thing is Aphmau if you have to watch for long enough it is interesting and cute and fun.
My DDs are 10 and 7 and I'm much happier they are into this.
I think minecraft is great they can each play on their own laptop and have a coupe of realms, which means they can see each other and build stuff together. they ave a very complex world with a school, mall, cafe, farm and houses.

I now sound too invested but my Y5 DD is not interested in hair and makeup or boys like some others in her class.
but DD1 is heavily into Anime in japanese with subtitles as apparently she is either going to be a manga graphic artist or own her own cafe in Tokyo with her sister someday not helped by me having lived in japan and still have basic understanding so i can listen to anime without subtitles

Madbythesea · 25/02/2016 11:50

and my spelling and grammar went to shot. again MN a edit key would be great
sorry
