I think it's an actual poem but not certain....either way it's frigging stupid. We all, as adults have to take responsibility for ourselves. This post seems to suggest that being an eternal backpacker is a good idea!

I don't think so and I suspect it was written by someone in their late 20s who still has the energy to "bathe in bio-luminescence and lie in a dirt road staring at the moon"

FFS. Hmm

I will never be a well behaved woman.

I would rather pass my days lying in the middle of dirt roads, staring at the full moon with a bottle of summer red in my palms.

I would rather have kids when it suits me, not when society expects or throws shoulds.

I would rather live in a hammock on a beach for six months, and write like my soul means it.

I would rather be horribly broke at times, than married to a job because a mortgage payment has my ass on a hook.

I would rather own moments, than investments.

I would rather eat alone, than sit with women who bore me at 'Wives’ Night.”

I would rather swim naked with bioluminescence, have it fall like fireflies from my hair, my breasts, my back.

I would rather do handstands naked in the moonlight when no one’s watching than pick bridesmaid dresses.

I would rather drink seven year old rum from a sandy bottle, smell of smoke and ash than sit in church.

I would rather learn from life than rack up debt, in a desk.

I would rather drink the ocean, again and again—celebrate being madly alive.

I would rather my love be defined by love itself, and nothing more or less.

I don’t need a ring on my finger to prove that I am in love.

I would rather take the chicken bus, than spend useless money in safe gated communities. Sit beside a goat, listen to raggaeton and eat green mango with sugar in a plastic bag sold from the woman who harasses the bus each time it stops.

I do not need a degree to prove that I am intelligent.

I do not need to own a piece of earth with some wood on top of it—to feel successful. No one truly owns the land, anyway—we just think we do.

My savings account has diddly to do with my richness.
I would rather sprawl my single ass out like a lioness each morning and enjoy each corner of my empty bed.

I will take a job I love and freedom over a pension, any day.

I will not work and work and work to live when my body is old and I am tired.

Stocks are for people who get boners from money.

Not everyone should have kids, and my eggs aren’t expiring.

I will not drink the societal Kool-Aid on a bus, nor will I drink it on a train.
Not on a plane, with a goat, in the rain, in the dark, in a tree, with a fox, in a box!

I will not jump through societies’ hoops and red tape, the treasure hunt in the rat race we chase.

If we must have milestones—mine will be measured by how much joy I have collected at the end of each day and how often in this life I have truly, deeply, opened.

Seek, see, love, do.

And yes, she sounds utterly judgemental, narrow-minded and smug.

So all her free-spirit experience has done nothing to open her mind to the fact that other people don't have to live her way either.

MySordidCakeSecret · 24/02/2016 11:23

ooh i had a look at her instagram and have to say i do love her art, and she's stunning!

MattDillonsPants · 24/02/2016 11:23

Yes Jorah but that's why it's irritating. She's making out she's all free spirit and flower child...but really, she's practically a media mogul!

OP posts:
TheGreatSnafu · 24/02/2016 11:26

Joseph said it all.

RhodaBull · 24/02/2016 11:29

Exactly. She's a canny business person.

Agree, Hygge, about funding travelling nonsense. Dh's niece was "crowdfunding" or some such scrounging for her travels. And then she had the brass neck to say that she could never work in a boring office. Er, you'll be getting no tainted contribution from me, then.

MetalMidget · 24/02/2016 11:29

I didn't realise she was a life coach! I googled the 'poem' and she is, indeed, described as a 'poet' as well as being 'a powerful voice for female empowerment'. Bizarrely she's also written a highly complimentary 'poem' about successful businesswomen, which seems to run contrary to the lying on the road money is evil inappropriate lions poem. I imagine she's in real life closer to the business woman that the hippy dippy free spirit persona.

Fair play to her, she's totally playing the system, presumably making a good living by writing (not particularly well) freelance bollocks, and convincing other people that they can do the same. It's bit like somebody building a career on those shit 'Minions with quotes' FB images.

MrsJorahMormont · 24/02/2016 11:30

Yep, Matt, she is. Sheeple are stupid though. If they want to pay to fund her mango fund, who are we to deny them?

LittleLionMansMummy · 24/02/2016 11:32

We'll have to agree to disagree Matt. She's hardly Katie Hopkins, whose flaming I would whole heartedly support. Or completely ignore her in the hope she'll give up an go away.

CheesyNachos · 24/02/2016 11:33

Rhoda, the mid-20's son of a former friend was crowd funding so he could fulfill his dream of climbing some mountain. His mother sent out begging letters for support including the fairly immortal line that he 'could not possibly be expected to work' while training for said event as his training was so intense.

FUCK. OFF.

Anyway, she looks alot older than early 20s to me, which is when this level of self absorption can be excused to a point. As far as I am concerned I think she is very attractive, stunning figure, writing is totally wanky and she can also fuck off for being so smug and dismissive of other people's lives.

RhodaBull · 24/02/2016 11:35

the thing is her kind of life is only really possible in a hot country and it rather helps to be young and attractive. I'd look a right loon lying in my anorak and wellies in the middle of my road. And if I were clutching a bottle of wine at the same time... far from being hailed as a free spirit I'd be locked up.

MrsJorahMormont · 24/02/2016 11:37

Just had a peek at her Instagram and she is the virtual clone of a very 'I'm mad, me, yah but earnest' Trustafarian I knew twenty years ago. Predictably enough.

trixymalixy · 24/02/2016 11:39

The amount of joy my kids give me has eclipsed any other of sources of joy in my life, and believe me there are plenty in my life. She's falling short on her milestones in that respect.

RhodaBull · 24/02/2016 11:44

What's your spirit animal and why? My mother is a shaman or sha-woman. I did a drum journey this summer with her on my birthday to confirm my central power animal. For the last ten years I was a blue heron/white egret.

From a Q and A session with her last year. Grin Grin

Can she come on MN for a webchat?!

trixymalixy · 24/02/2016 11:44

She looks great, wonder how old she actually is? Certainly older than i had initially thought after reading that wanky immature poem.

Pufflehuff · 24/02/2016 11:47

Haha, wow, you're such a wild free spirit XD Rebel that can't be tamed. Put a streak of green in your hair, pop your photos on Instagram too, just so everyone knows you're a child of nature. Because it wouldn't be worth doing if no one saw, right? :)

APlaceOnTheCouch · 24/02/2016 11:47

I'd look a right loon lying in my anorak and wellies in the middle of my road. And if I were clutching a bottle of wine at the same time... far from being hailed as a free spirit I'd be locked up.
This made me Grin

hmcAsWas · 24/02/2016 11:48

Oh yes - get her on MN for a webchat. What a fine idea

purplemeggie · 24/02/2016 11:51

Oh well. She'll have to grow up and get a proper job when she realises that she did want children and her ovaries have expired? How else to pay for the IVF?

MattDillonsPants · 24/02/2016 11:54

Rhoda please set up an Instagram now and add the picture of you in the lane in your wellies, with your wine.

It is a view, a composite view, something t make you think. I don't believe you are supposed to feel you need to embrace it all. I remember going to Barbados over Christmas and new Year many years ago ( we had had a good year) and having a wonderful time by going out of our hotel compound and getting the local buses to the races, the far side of the island etc. we felt a bit sorry for the other hotel residents getting n the coaches and never meeting the locals.

I've worked constantly for 35 years now. managed to accumulate a small pension and wonder whether this was really the best way. Those of my friends who took a more relaxed approach to life ( including one who has never had a job) may have known better.

ExConstance · 24/02/2016 11:57

p.s. I feel the poem should have a word added after the last line "discuss"

Strokethefurrywall · 24/02/2016 12:05

What a load of self indulgent wank. It sounds very much like the shite in my diary that I wrote when I went travelling in my 20's.
But here's the trick. I'm now mid-30's, have 2 small kids, a full time job, 2 mortgages, a pension and several savings accounts, and I still got to lie down in the middle of the road the other day drinking wine. Well actually it wasn't the road, it was the beach at midnight and I was twatted. But still, the sentiments the same.
stocks are for people who get boners from money - they sure are! And you know what that boner money gets me?
A life in the Caribbean drinking sweetened mango and coconut juice and passing out under the palm trees any time I'd like. It really is amazing what life can give you if you actually do "conform".

Honestly, I'm all for living free and soaking up adventure and life but not at the expense of dismissing the life of millions.

Pufflehuff · 24/02/2016 12:08

Wait, she's not much of a society rebel given that she puts scantily clad pics of herself on an Instagram account and courts the various social media outlets to to drum up cash. That's not exactly rustic, natural living.

AnotherEffingOrangeRevel · 24/02/2016 12:15

That poem's given me a proper laugh - thanks OP Grin

Is this David Brent? Pretty sure he'll never be a "well behaved woman"....
