He's a great actor, and he made ace Bond. But - Bond is not blonde. Fact.

Roll on Aidan Turner.

I think Paterson Joseph could carry off "Eton" although he's too old at 51. I'm not sure Idris Elba could.

Whycantweallgetalong · 17/02/2016 18:30

But there's no back story other than he's a English secret agent, with posh background in 1950s. It's now been brought forward to modern day. I don't think most people dwell too much on the backstory when going to see Bond movies today, they just want a good enjoyable story line.
M is not irrelevant as the backstory for that is that he is head of secret service. Even though the characters have changed as have Bond by the way, they've always been male I.e until someone decided on a woman Dame Judi. It didn't spoil the plot in anyway.

Whycantweallgetalong · 17/02/2016 18:33

Referring to your last post Soup but that's where the measure of a good actor comes in Wink, perhaps ELba may simply not be good enough for the role rather than him being black being the issue. I believe Chiwetel could probably pull of Eton, or even David Oyelowo. Someone like Blair Underwood (although he is American).

No, M has always been different people. Bond is always Bond. That is the difference.

Never mind.

BYOSnowman · 17/02/2016 18:40

Given the end of the last film they could continue the franchise with everyone else except bond and introduce a modern spy

And then they could continue the bond franchise back in the sixties

And they would do twice as many films and make twice as much money!

Whycantweallgetalong · 17/02/2016 18:46

Yes 'M' has been played by different people but so has Bond! What are we splitting hairs about here Confused ?

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 17/02/2016 18:55

I think M doesn't have a type / fixed image in the way Bond does. M is a job title that could be filled by a range of people. Bond is an individual character with a significant back story.

Duckdeamon · 17/02/2016 19:23

Egg cannot be Bond. No way.

If an actor from This Life had to be Bond it should be Ferdie, or Anna or even Millie, or even Egg's Dad! Anyone but Egg or Miles!

northernsoulgirl · 17/02/2016 19:27

Tom Hiddleston looks AMAZING in black tie, and if he is too nice as some say - hey he can really act!

Duckdeamon · 17/02/2016 19:29

Come on Pinewood and MNHQ, we should have all these actors do screen tests Grin

Ifiwasabadger · 17/02/2016 19:35

Patron....idris Elba is too chubby and rough...!?!?!? Are we looking at the same person?!?!

LastGirlOnTheLeft · 17/02/2016 19:37

Idris Elba is horrible....not attractive,?so big headed and nothing compared to Aidan Turner who is so sexy and gorgeous!!

Twinklestein · 17/02/2016 19:38

Is Adrian Turner not a bit rodenty?

Twinkie1 · 17/02/2016 19:42

Henry Cavill can't act, was shocking in Superman.

Clive Owen bit old now but he would have been great.

Tom Hardy would be worth watching just for the beauty of the man.

Idris gets my vote though.

There are loads of actors who were not suited to play the parts they did. Colin Firth in BJD, Sean Bean shouldn't have been Sharpe and fucking Tom Thumb as Jack Reacher!

LastGirlOnTheLeft · 17/02/2016 19:45

Twinkle the name is Aidan...Aidan Bond!(not Adrian lol)

Whycantweallgetalong · 17/02/2016 19:52

ChazsBrilliant Yes I see your point.

Twinkie did you see HC in Tudors? Wink brilliant!

Wagglebees · 17/02/2016 19:59

Henry Cavill was fantastic in The Tudors.

Besides this is James Bond we're talking about right? Hardly Shakespeare.

Wagglebees · 17/02/2016 20:01

Someone who is...

British, good looking, tall, dark haired, over the age of 30.

Skin colour irrelevant imo. Hair colour essential. Wink

Julietee · 17/02/2016 20:12

Damian Lewis.
Or... Mark Rylance. Grin

Twinklestein · 17/02/2016 20:40

'Twas iPad autocorrect, it started off with Arian.

Cavill, I did sit through all of Superman just because of him, but can he do moody like DC?

Altho' I agree Bond's non-Blond.

StillStayingClassySanDiego · 17/02/2016 20:59

Henry Cavill cannot be Bond, just not right.

I didn't watch This Life so 'Egg' references are lost on me, he's harder than a coffin nail on that Zombie show.

He'd be great acting with M.

ClarenceTheLion · 17/02/2016 22:11

I think Idris could do old school. Plus he left the mother of his second child for Naomi Campbell (according to the tabloids) which gives him that sleazy Bond quality.

Whoever they choose, I hope it's not someone from the predictable Clive Owen mould. It's just a fictional character, it could be played by anyone.

MuddhaOfSuburbia · 17/02/2016 22:15

I bet Egg would do it

But he is Egg and will always be Egg in our hearts

if ANYone out of This Life is in the frame, it should of course be Miles

Terribleknitter · 17/02/2016 22:52

Mark Rylance could be M. I always liked Clive's brother Paul Owen but he's definitely a bit old I think.

AfroPuffs · 17/02/2016 22:55

Mentioned already but Theo James would be great. Perfect accent, charming but mysterious, looks like he can handle himself. I luffs him! 😍
