He's a great actor, and he made ace Bond. But - Bond is not blonde. Fact.

Roll on Aidan Turner.

Why are people saying bulking up,its not the Terminator they are playing. They need to be fit and the right age.Thats more important surely.

Plus he has to be well known which Aidan Turner isnt in America.

Ioan Gruffudd
No idea how to upload the image.

TheChocolateDidIt · 17/02/2016 16:27

And he's perfect at 42.

TheChocolateDidIt · 17/02/2016 16:30

Sorry OP I did not answer your original question. YANBU. I am blonde. blonde is wrong fro Bond and yes he was disappointing in Spectre. It was like he could not be arsed.

To me - broad men like Daniel Craig do not look good in tuxedo's.

Duckdeamon · 17/02/2016 17:20

My vote is for Idris.

Partron · 17/02/2016 17:22

Why does everyone want idris?? He'd be bloody awful he's too big and solid and modern. You need someone more old school.

Partron · 17/02/2016 17:23

Ioan thing is more like it.

Whycantweallgetalong · 17/02/2016 17:34

Well 'old school' would by default mean white men only.
Let's move forward a bit, Idris would be perfect. A good actor, if he is good, shouldn't have a problem with softening his natural edginess for the role.

Wagglebees · 17/02/2016 17:47

Henry Cavill.

I loathe James Bond films but I'd happily sit through a couple of hours of ol Henry swanning around in a suit. and small swimming trunks

SoupDragon · 17/02/2016 17:52

Does a black Bond fit the back story? It wouldn't bother me one bit but I have been pondering this.

Whycantweallgetalong · 17/02/2016 17:52

I love Henry C, but think he's too 'pretty' for Bond.

SfaOkaySuperFurryAnimals · 17/02/2016 17:53

I have cultivated my Aidan Turner obsession for 6 years since desperate romantics, so its a team Aidan shout out from here..
After And then there were none, he's already my James bond regularly😏 IYSWIM😁

StillStayingClassySanDiego · 17/02/2016 17:55

Henry C can't be Bond , he's a Super Hero now.

Whycantweallgetalong · 17/02/2016 18:07

The story should be written to fit! This is the problem with the Oscars. Not enough black nominees because there arent enough roles written with diversity in mind. Why does a secret agent HAVE to be white? Obviously Ian Flemming wrote it based on how things were in his time, but there are no strong enough arguments to say Bond can't be changed now in 2016. After all the character of 'M' was originally written and intended for a man. A woman as head of Secret Intelligence in 1953 would have been unthinkable. But it's been done! And I think we all agree Judi Dench was a terrific casting. So why not a black Bond?

StillStayingClassySanDiego · 17/02/2016 18:09

Chiwetel or Bond, or Aidan, or Andrew Lincoln

Does a black Bond fit the back story?

Depends on the era. Bond movies are set in the present day, so yes. Eton has had brown-skinned students since the early 70s. Before that, there was only one black boy and he was perpetually bullied. The Royal Navy currently has 120 BAME officers (0.4%) and the first was Capt John Perkins, around 1800.

So: yes, possible :)

Some PPs have suggested a split Bond franchise, with one staying true to the original era and others offering better opportunities for actors other than 40-year-old white men. That would be fun. But expensive!

GarlicBake · 17/02/2016 18:13

Cross-posted, Why.

Wagglebees · 17/02/2016 18:15

I been doing extensive perving research on Pinterest whycant and there's quite a few pics of Henry Cavill looking a bit rougher around the edges. In a good way obviously.

I just want him in all the things.

Wagglebees · 17/02/2016 18:15

Things being films. Blush

Whycantweallgetalong · 17/02/2016 18:21

Grin Waggle he is rather delicious isn't he? I just saw some photos of him all bearded up. No! We want him unshaved, dimpled chin on full view, chiselled cheek bones prominent. The industry must continue to write roles just for him. Just imagine him in Bond though..l One wouldn't be able to concentrate on the gadgets in the car.

SoupDragon · 17/02/2016 18:23

Why does a secret agent HAVE to be white?

A secret agent doesn't. Obviously.

I was musing about a specific secret agent with an established back story. M is irrelevant as the character changes with the actor with each M actually being a different person.

Partron · 17/02/2016 18:26

Well James bond clearly wasn't black or meant to be but they could play with it I suppose (except they never would). I just think idris Elba is too chubby and rough!

Partron · 17/02/2016 18:28

Michael fassbender would be perfect actually. But he's too much of a good actor to ever do it.

In the books Bond had a self destructive quality plus very much a loner. Not the creepy perv often shown on screen.
