Because it seems to be getting harder to buy the non-scented kind these days! But honestly, who thought it was a good idea to put something heavily perfumed so fanjo-adjacent? AIBU to think it was probably a man?

And yes, I know I should probably use a mooncup and reusable pads but I'm not quite there yet!

Wings definitely help to stop me leaking and also help the towel stay in place. So I don't object to that part of the design - I just don't want to smell like fucking Haze.

Mammabrown · 15/02/2016 22:52

I sometimes buy kotex they are not smelly they are thicker though

Yseulte · 15/02/2016 22:54

Maybe it's just me, but they seem to rustle when I walk.

OttiliaVonBCup · 15/02/2016 22:57

I hustle too.

SchnooSchnoo · 15/02/2016 23:02

YANBU. The worst thing about them is that they are not clearly labelled. I go round sniffing the packets in the shop to try and avoid the scented ones!

CrotchetQuaverMinim · 15/02/2016 23:02

I'm glad it isn't just me that thought the pink body form packet had started to smell recently. I was sure the ones I got last month did, even though I'd been looking for scent free ones.

I liked wings when I wore pads. Stopped loads of leaking on the sides and was a real revelation when they first came out. Now I just want some decent liners. Non smelly, absorbent cover like Always has, and decent size. That can't be too hard to make, surely?!

imwithspud · 15/02/2016 23:03

Oh I love wings, I find they stop the pad from bunching up and leaking. I bought maternity pads from Mothercare/Boots post birth rather than cheaper supermarket ones because they had wings.

At least wings serve a purpose, scented sanpro does not. I'm sure it's advised somewhere to keep scented products away from that area so it's odd that the sanpro companies are going against that advice.

OttiliaVonBCup · 15/02/2016 23:03

Rustle.
I rustle, I don't hustle.

EBearhug · 15/02/2016 23:04

Someone upthread said they use Always Silk - where do you find them? I can't get them anywhere, and I have searched all the major stores here. The cheap own-brands seem to be the only option, but I did like Always Silk when I could find them.

I too am someone who has unwittingly bought scented pads. I don't want scented ones. I just want not to leak all over my clothes. I am capable of changing protection before it starts smelling.

OttiliaVonBCup · 15/02/2016 23:08

Sniffing in the shops doesn't help a lot, the smell wafts abs contaminated the lot if then.

I fear they will be offering pads with different Scents next - fruity dewberry, vanilla, forest fresh, bubblegum sweetness.

Mark my words.

mangocoveredlamb · 15/02/2016 23:09

I can highly recommend the Sainsbury's own pads. Not scented, not made of plastic and nice and cheap!

Akire · 15/02/2016 23:09

I hate smelly pads they smell v bad I also hate wings just can't get them into position. Drives me mad that you can't buy any nighttime pads that don't have wings. Why can't we have a choice? surely I can't be only woman in world like a night time pad that's longer but no wings?

Bugs that scented isn't called scented it's just called fresh so unless you are reading all small print online shop it's easy to get them mixed up.

mangocoveredlamb · 15/02/2016 23:10

EBearhug, the Sainsbury's ones are just like the always silk, that I can no longer find anywhere!

BeeppityBeep · 15/02/2016 23:10

Ugh the smelly pads are DISGUSTING.

YANBU

I find the smell really nauseating. Apparently the manufacturers introduced the odor because they carried out a big survey and the result was that consumers were concerned about odour control. I can't see how the manufacturers adding a revolting artificial odour to the pad addresses 'odour control' Confused

Akire · 15/02/2016 23:16

It didn't even smell like perfume though it smells like pine toilet cleaner or air freshener it's not like you are going to accidentally think oh she smells nice I wonder what perfume she's wearing.

The first time they came in shopping delivery u spend half hour thinking van driver had tipped some harpic loo cleaner all over my shopping

LongHardStare · 15/02/2016 23:16

I've been using Lillets teens for ages as they are the only ones I know are unscented. I've stocked up as if it were wartime just in case they go over to the dark (febreze) side. Reader I am no teen.

EBearhug · 15/02/2016 23:17

Great, I must head up to Sainsbury's at some point.

carefreeeee · 15/02/2016 23:17

I use reusables www.honouryourflow.co.uk/
Really comfy, don't smell, not sweaty or rustly, they stay put very effectively. Would never ever go back to unpleasant plasticky pads. Can't understand why anyone would wear them.
I normally use with a mooncup (the pantyliner ones are fine for that - never had one leak) - can wear one for 24 hours as no smell as opposed to the plastic ones that start to smell more or less straight away.
Easy to wash, just throw in with everything else. The fabric they are made of doesn't stain.

Lockheart · 15/02/2016 23:18

The only night ones I get on with are scented now :( I don't think I've seen non-scented ones for ages! Thankfully given I only wear them at night I don't have to smell of artificial perfumey fug during the day. I don't rustle at night though!

I've not seen scented tampons yet. My tampax pearl are still very normal and long may they remain so!

Agree with everyone else; it's completely unnecessary and utterly pointless, and adds further to the taboo of periods.

LongHardStare · 15/02/2016 23:20

Sounds like a lot of people are switching to reusables and mooncups. Could the crappily scented pads be like a stealthy 5p carrier bag thing, encouraging us all to change our habits and be kinder to the environment... Aversion therapy to a wasteful product by way of thrush.

ChrissieLatham · 15/02/2016 23:22

I quite like the smell of carefree laundry fresh pads! Seems I'm in the minority though! I was under the impression the fragrance was on the adhesive side so shouldn't cause any allergic reaction. Scented tampons on the other hand... I do not see the point.

Anyone remember Kotex curved pads? Felt like wearing a nappy. Claire Rayner did the dodgy ads for them.

wol1968 · 15/02/2016 23:23

You ALL need to spam e-mail the manufacturers, girls. Tell them exactly why you will not buy their products, in words of one syllable. Perhaps we could get some medics on board as well, to do some research into thrush and allergic reactions.

MummySparkle · 15/02/2016 23:25

YANBU! I unwittingly bought a pack when I was post-patten with DD and fed up of bulky maternity pads. I hadn't had a period in over 2 years and boy were they different! The smell was awful, and it was even worse once used. I resorted to using the Tesco value ones. Not hugely absorbent, but felt like they were made of paper / fluffy stuff rather than plastic & gel crystals.

I am now a reusable cloth sanpro convert. I was a little wary at first, but they have revolutionised my periods. So comfy and pretty and the best thing? Almost no smell! I have a lunette menstrual cup so the pads are mostly for 'just in case'. I can leave one on all day to catch any overflow and they smell no different to my undies by the end of the day. Come in lots of patterns too. I would highly recommend huggally wuggally on Facebook - her pads are fab. Earthwise girls is a great website for all things reusable. There are also lots of custom makers out there. Once you've tried a few and figured out what length / absorbency you need you'll be able to order a 7" regular from lots of different makers. They all say what absorbent materials are used inside and what thw materials on the top and bottom are so you know exactly what's going near your bits

Akire · 15/02/2016 23:27

But if you can smell it then must be releasing chemical molecules or something? Science wasn't my strong point.

FankEweVeryMuch · 15/02/2016 23:28

The smell I the Sanpro aisle these days makes me want to vom. Who wants a potpourri vag?! Rankingtons.

Body form used to have an unscented option, have they joined the smelly side too?
