So I ordered something for £20 off the internet. I cancelled it. They sent me a confirmation email. The idiots still sent me the item.

Should I contact them about it or just keep the item. I followed procedure, why should I deal with the hassle of sending the blasted thing back. I don't even need it!

What will happen? Will they realise and charge me anyway?

Email them and ask them to arrange a courier as you're unable to get to the Post Office -they'll tell you to keep it.

If you are in receipt of unwanted items, it's the seller's responsibility to cover the cost of the return. Contact them and ask for a courier to collect and yes, they may well tell you to keep it. Amazon have done that with me in the past.

check your bank account, they might of already taken the money in between you cancelling and the email

This has happened to me on several occasions but where I've been sent the same item twice.

I've always contacted the company and been told to keep it. So I'd do that.

This has happened to me and I've always contacted the seller. They've inevitably told me to keep the item.

tell them - Habitat sent me two packages with identical items last month - I let them know - they told me to keep the second box as well (ordered one lamp and one cushion which they sent twice)

I would at least contact them & check you have not been charged.

I wouldn't put return to sender on the parcel as you cannot prove that you sent it back. I would ensure you have proof of some kind.

I would ask them to arrange collection or ask them to send you a franked label or something like that, basically if they want it they should pay for it as it's not your error but theirs.

I suspect they charged you. Check your bank? If they havent contact them and ask for them to pay for return post. Bet they tell you to keep it.

The confirmation email they sent - was that to acknowledge you had cancelled the item? If so keep it and do nothing.

If you think they are going to charge you, resend your email rejecting the item and ask them if they would like to cover the cost of its return. Contact your credit card company - if that's the way you paid - asap and tell them you are in dispute with the seller. They will not authorise payment although it might have already gone.

I completely agree, why should you deal with the hassle of sorting out their mistake? I am married to a retailer. It happens to him. He gets suppliers sending him stuff in error. He usually returns it but in his own time and at their expense.

If a customer was sent something costing £20 in error, he'd tell them to keep it.

So you entered into a contract then decided to cancel, incurring a lot of hassle for the company and you think you should be able to keep the item?

I run an online business and I work my nuts off to keep my family afloat. People like you are just dreadful, you should be thoroughly ashamed of yourself.

This wouldn't count as unsolicited goods (as you did place the order, even if you then cancelled) so the company could chase you for either the goods or payment at any point within the next 6 years. If you give back the goods, they have to be looked after. You have the responsibility to adequately look after them - so it's fine to put them in the garage and forget about them, but you couldn't use it and then give it back when they asked.

That aside, if you call or email and let them know that they've still sent it, and that they can arrange collection on X day, they'll probably either confirm that someone will collect it or tell you to keep it and thank you for your honesty - either way, it means you've done the right thing and you have no continued liability.

Contact company, I once was sent a postage paid bag to send item back in, I thought that was fair enough, just had to leave it at post office.

As its an online purchase, perfectly entitled BY LAW to cancel the order within I think it is 10 days but check that, so long as not personalised. However you do need to advise them of the delivery and what they want you to do with it. You shouldn't have to pay for return, they may say keep, they may send a return bag but fundamentally you need to let them know its ready for collection at your address and how do they want to proceed.

queenofthepirates stop being so dramatic. I run a small business and whilst it's annoying when people cancel an order, its just part and parcel of retail - the op should not return at her expense, but email advising them of their mistake and given the small sum involved they will probably say keep it.

I'd check they didn't charge and email them. Any further hassle is for them. Including getting it collected from you.
