To not return this refunded item

thisismypassword · 13/02/2016 18:31

So I ordered something for £20 off the internet. I cancelled it. They sent me a confirmation email. The idiots still sent me the item.

Should I contact them about it or just keep the item. I followed procedure, why should I deal with the hassle of sending the blasted thing back. I don't even need it!

What will happen? Will they realise and charge me anyway?

Unless you cancelled after it was posted. Did you check?
In which case it's your duty to go to the post office and return it.

Muchtoomuchtodo · 13/02/2016 20:13

Contact them and see what they say. If you've not been charged then it's not yours to have.

MTWTFSS · 13/02/2016 20:27

This happened to me with Amazon.

They let me keep it Grin

Honesty IS the best policy!

thisismypassword · 13/02/2016 20:49

Ok. I'll email them so it's all in writing. I had to ASK them for proof of cancellation which I'm glad I did now this has happened.

I'll say it's here for collection or send me a pre-paid envelope. The money has so far stayed refunded.

Thanks for the advice on this. Never happened before. Some of the replies were unnecessarily aggressive though!

OP posts:
Nancery · 13/02/2016 23:51

Email do always good! And I agree, they are likely to say to keep it and then you can be guilt free.

As for the 'unnecessarily aggressive', I have come to the conclusion that it's close to impossible to expect a thread without at least one answer that falls into that category!

LassWiTheDelicateAir · 14/02/2016 01:08

queenofthepirates don't be ridiculous. If the seller has a cancellation policy and if the OP cancelled within the cancellation period it's the seller's own fault if their internal records system failed to notice.

The OP should email the seller to advise the goods have been received and may be collected from OP at a time and method which is convenient for the OP. And that certainly doesn't mean OP being put to any cost or inconvenience.

Greengardenpixie · 14/02/2016 09:56

Oh FFS just keep the item! Just check you havent been charged.

Wardrobespierre · 14/02/2016 10:03

People aren't unnecessarily aggressive. They're responding to two things: your casual attitude to the law/dishonesty; you own aggressive tone.

You're doing the right thing in letting them know.

ohmywhatamisaying · 14/02/2016 10:16

Why is it even on your radar to keep an ordered item you previously decided to cancel because you didn't want it? Send it back.

thisismypassword · 15/02/2016 09:51

They sent me this. Seems a lot of effort on my part. I do not have a printer and have opened the bag.

Please accept my apologies for the item arriving to you in error as
this was cancelled with our warehouse. Please follow the below link I
have attached for you, this will allow you to create a Pre-Paid Stamp
to return the item back to our warehouse for the refund you have
requested rather than to pay to keep the xxxxxxxxx.

www.royalmail.com/track-my-return/create

If you are unable to print please advise us of this so we can arrange
for one to be sent via Royal Mail for you. This will entitle you to a
"Free of charge" return by your local Post Office and therefore once
this has been received, please obtain a receipt when posting this back
to us.

If you require any further information then please contact us.
Kind regards

Where's the hassle? They've said they'll post you a label to use if you can't print it, and surely you can tape up the bag again or wrap it afresh?

What were you expecting from them?

limitedperiodonly · 15/02/2016 10:01

WTF are they saying? Is it that you can use their convoluted method to return the item they sent you in error or they'll charge you for it? Hmm

Loraline · 15/02/2016 10:06

How is it convoluted? Print his label and post it or we'll post you a label for you to send it back. Seems pretty simple to me.

limitedperiodonly · 15/02/2016 10:11

It's convoluted because they acknowledge they sent it in error, they want it back but they want her to do all of the work in sending it back.

If I'm reading it correctly, that's the only way she will get a refund of the money that they shouldn't have taken.

They even have the cheek to sign off as Customer Services.

AndYourBirdCanSing · 15/02/2016 10:12

It may seem simple but I personally fail to see why OP should go out of her way to print a label and go to a post office for THEIR mistake.

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 15/02/2016 10:17

I'd get them to send the label - I wouldn't be wasting my printer ink on their mistake. I would also tape the bag, I wouldn't be repacking it, and then take it to the Post Office when it was convenient for me.

Jinxxx · 15/02/2016 10:35

I think what they have asked you to do is reasonable. You ordered something then changed your mind. They have incurred the cost of sending you something you don't now want, and have offered to send you a prepaid label to return it. They will incur more costs processing the return and repacking it for resale (if it is something that can be resold). I don't think it is unfair for them to ask you to drop it off at the Post Office, but if you do, you could always contact them and ask them to arrange collection.

JassyRadlett · 15/02/2016 10:37

What, whack a label on it and take it to the post office? Confused

ovenchips · 15/02/2016 10:40

Send it back. Don't send it back. Next month you'll have forgotten about it either way, so whatever you decide to do it is not worth more than a moment's thought now.

Cococo1 · 15/02/2016 10:42

It is a hassle to take something to the post office if you are busy- walking there, queueing up etc. OP, if it is Amazonthey will collect. If you can't find that option in the returns section of your order them contact Amazon and get them to sort it out.

limitedperiodonly · 15/02/2016 10:50

I wouldn't enjoy spending my lunchtime queuing at the Post Office in order to get a receipt to prove I'd returned the item I didn't want and they acknowledged they'd sent in error in order to get back money they shouldn't have taken.

JassyRadlett · 15/02/2016 10:51

Hassle is so relative - I'd say waiting in for a courier pickup, poss having to take time off work etc for it would be more disruptive.

limitedperiodonly · 15/02/2016 10:59

But time costs money. The company is stealing her time. It's their error, they should pay to correct it. For all I know, they ignore cancellations and send out relatively low-value items, gambling that it is too much hassle for customers to claim a refund. That's a business plan...

JassyRadlett · 15/02/2016 11:02

The company is stealing her time.

Grin

So how do you suggest the product gets returned without the company, er, 'stealing' her time? Teleportation not having been mastered yet...

boredofusername · 15/02/2016 11:11

Lots of barrack room lawyers on here...you cancelled the item, they acknowledged the cancellation but still sent it, that makes it unsolicited in my view and the suggestions of dishonesty are ludicrous. I'd be fuming if they'd acknowledged my cancellation and then sent it out and charged me regardless.

Exactly.
