The most gigantic "nursery aged" children ever?Hmm

Pipbin · 10/02/2016 22:43

Having failed to procreate I have been spared this joy. I'm off to watch an episode now and see how far I get before I become all stabby.

I had a pony called topsy.
I had a grandmother called Topsy.

celeste83 · 10/02/2016 22:59

Their mum will always be the lady who shagged Max Branning lol

Pedestriana · 10/02/2016 23:02

They're not as stupid as the people in Balamory. They have memories shorter than golfishes do, and seem to be incapable of getting anything right. DD recently watched an episode where the painter bloke had gone to see Miss Hoolie and some other people, and not realised he had paint all over his hands, despite picking up cups of tea, looking at photos etc - Halfwits, all of them.

OwlinaTree · 10/02/2016 23:12

I remember the book where they go to a fancy dress party as gypseys and the mum blacks them up! I'm guessing that one hadn't made the tv show? Grin

Wasn't there a little sister called Tansy or similar?

celeste83 · 10/02/2016 23:14

I think their mum is currently pregnant so maybe that will the new sister?

blackheartsgirl · 11/02/2016 00:09

I have never ever heard of topsy and Tim until this thread, I'm 38 and i don't even remember the books when I was a kid either Confused

I've just youtubed the first episode and I'm not missing anything Grin

I don't even know if my dds watch it, is it on cbeebies?

tallwivglasses · 11/02/2016 01:10

The grandma gives me the rage. We hate watching this and survive by adding the subtext.

Ilovenannyplum · 11/02/2016 06:48

This is why I love mumsnet.

You say things like this in a toddler group and you get uneasy nervous smiles but on here, you're allowed to say that you hate them and the mums a twat and you don't get judged Grin

ManneryTowers · 11/02/2016 07:54

I remember the blacking up! I think mummy used cocoa powder!

Pico2 · 11/02/2016 08:10

I really hate the episode where they lose Grandma's new dog in the park, they're all so bloody calm. Where's the wailing and hysterical finger pointing?

WorkPlayClean · 11/02/2016 08:10

Just had the 'pleasure' of watching the one where Tim picks up his new glasses and think the mum has to be based purely on MN threads such as the 'performance parenting' ones - there's the obnoxious kids that are allowed to shout in cafes, kids indulged at every turn yet still behaving 'perfectly', mum (and gran) loudly repeating difficult words or concepts and showing off how much the kids know to the random public, PDA's forced unnaturally in at every turn, being sickly sweet to the MIL - all perfect AIBU fodder!

Mum's fixed smile is clearly based on copious bottles of gin rather than happiness though Grin I want to see the "recycling day" episode where they carry out boxes of empties and mummy plays "let's pretend we had a party so the bin men don't call social services.... can you say social services Twintosser Tim?"

BillSykesDog · 11/02/2016 09:21

Not gin...drugs. She's spackered on Tim's Ritalin.

Alidoll · 11/02/2016 09:51

Please God don't let them make any series of Biff, Chip and bloody Kipper...DD started P1 back in August and now gets one of those crappy little books home every week "to read". I mean, who the hell calls their kid Chip? Seriously.

And yes, Tipsy and Dim is tedious in the extreme and on permanent recycle (so one minute they are in the new house and next they are showing someone round the old...it's like Groundhog Day but without the Bill Murray one liners)

bruffin · 11/02/2016 09:55

They did make the magic key Alidoll, my dc are 18 and 20 and they watched it when they were little. I liked Biff and Chip as did my dc.

chloemb · 11/02/2016 10:12

My children love topsy and tim but i got to admit I hate how they are perfect where are the tantrums and having to tell them todo 1 thing 10 times but hopi g at some point maybe it'll rub off on my kids and they'll be have 24/7 lol

Jibberjabberjooo · 11/02/2016 10:23

I watched the one recently where Topsy and Tim had a babysitter and the Mum came in in the morning and woke them up. Why would you wake up your children when you've been out the night before? Any normal person would still be in bed thinking 'yes! The kids are still asleep'.

Notamused71 · 11/02/2016 10:57

I have twins - boy and girl (5) - and I never call them twins or "twintastic" for that matter. Cringe!! I can live with Topsy and Tim - as long as Barney stays away from our TV screen!!

CaveMum · 11/02/2016 11:39

I refer you all to my CBeebies thread in Chat from a few weeks ago.

Topsy & Tim, Bing and Andy's Dinosaur Adventures seem to be the most hated!

Pico2 · 11/02/2016 12:46

I'm not the only parent in DD1's class who says, "You need to get a new reading book today, but not one with Biff, Chip and Kipper."

grannytomine · 11/02/2016 12:49

I remember the books, never seen the programme. I have an irrational urge to watch it now.

grannytomine · 11/02/2016 12:51

I used to work with someone who had twins, she always got all judgey who called twins........ twins. She called them boys, come on boys or the boys have done this. Then she had another set of twins, a boy and a girl and she referred to them as...................... the twins. Even she found it funny.

Twinmama32 · 11/02/2016 18:50

I have 5yo g/b twins and have never noticed how old tipsy and dim are, obvs too caught up in the gripping conversations about moving house 😬

Javabeansaintgeorge · 11/02/2016 19:23

i think they are in year 1 in most of the episodes ive seen.

NationMcKinley · 12/02/2016 06:44

I'm hoping they'll revisit the series in "Topsy and Tim - the teenage years"

Let's see how preternaturally calm creepy Joy is when her Twintabulous Twins are coming home and spewing vodka red bull everywhere.

Mind you, if that series is anything like this one, T&T will be about 41 in real lifeGrin

Jasonandyawegunorts · 13/02/2016 00:34

They have last names in the series.... I can imagine the writers meeting about last names, to add to the realism portrayed....

Topsy and Tim Odell.
