The mum was a psycho lesbian on Casualty for a bit recently, ended up burning her own face off. Was weird to watch!

I'm not sure my brain could accept Topsy and Tims mum being a psycho lesbian who burned her face off. Grin

The 'twintastic' thing really bugs me. We get it, they're twins.

I think their house looks really cluttered.

They must be the oldest twins in nursey. Im 53 and had Topsy and Tim books when i was little

I loved Topsy and Tim books when I was little. My favourite was when they went on holiday and got stuck behind a tractor on the way. Daddy got really cross and had to drive fast to make up the time!

Topsy and Tim weren't on the telly when my dc were small thank God
But, even now over 20 years later, I can clearly remember the rage that the books used to give me Grin

Aarrrgh the Mum! And the Dad! Arrgh they're so bloody happy all the time. Where's the episode where Mummy and Daddy have a barney over breakfast and spend the rest of the day with tight smiles trying to play nice in front of the twintabulous twosome??

Actually crying a bit at Autopsy and Tim.

As someone who HAS twins, I can tell you on good authority that no-one is that sunny and patient and happily married having gestated two human beings simultaneously unless they are on a skinful of drugs.

I can't watch it - partly because they are so old - and annoying - but mostly because it's so sexist!

The episode where they have a friend over to play - girls do cakes and boys play outside. When Tim comes in mum won't let him join in with the cakes because it's 'girls only' Hmm

Shame because I loved the books as a child, and I have boy twins who love seeing other twins on tv.

They are also biologically impossible. You can't have boy/girl identical twins. Unless one us transgender

This has always irrationally irritated me angry

I don't think I've ever heard anyone say they're identical?

ElizabethG81 · 09/02/2016 19:03

Completely agree Felicia. It makes me itch how sexist it is. Unfortunately, my own "twintabulous twosome" love it Blush

I'm a twin if mum has said come on twins we would have ignored her. Its just as quick to say topsy and Tim bath, as it is to say come on twins bath.

I enjoyed the books 35y ago! But only because was and think is the only book that mention twins ever.

Jasonandyawegunorts · 09/02/2016 19:09

It's sexist becuase the episodes are based on books from the 1960's...

... but there is no reason why they couldn't have updated it.

I hate topsy and tim too but do like to laugh at it.

As for identical twins of opposite sex, it is possible although incredibly rare for one egg to split into a male and female baby (overally complicated chromosome explanation i cant explain properly) but they wouldnt technically be biologically identical anymore

They need to make a 'topsy and Tim uncut' for grown ups. Instead of the unrealistic smug perfect household you have (examples just off the top of my head, definitely have never happened in my house), Tim having a poo accident and hiding the evidence under his bed, Topsy sneaking a permanent marker pen to bed with the sole intention of drawing all over her bedroom walls when everyone is asleep, or the mum swigging wine from the bottle at the end of a hard day because she can't be arsed to wash up the already used wine glasses.

I'd say they are clearly meant to be in the books though...

EmmaWoodlouse · 09/02/2016 19:34

They're dressed the same, that doesn't make them identical. By definition they're not identical. They probably look more alike than the average pair of non-identical twins because they're drawn in a fairly simple style by the same illustrator.
