In my defence - they are having a couscous salad for pack lunch at school today with loads of veggies and roast chicken mixed in with it so they will have had one proper meal already.

I had planned to make savoury pancakes with a chicken alfredo filling and then just some sweet ones for after, but I had forgotten that DS has swimming today and I have to go out and pick him up at 5.30pm which is a PITA and means that dinner ends up being rushed rather than leisurely.

They will complain if I make them eat savoury pancakes - not because they are fussy eaters, but because they LOVE sugar & lemon juice crepes and don't get them very often so it's a real treat.

Please tell me IANBU to effectively feed my children dessert for dinner one night of the year.

Hugh Fernley-W did a whole programme on the benefits of having more pancakes.....for all meals, on any occasion and said they weren't that bad for you. HFW is healthy God so I'm with him. DS (selective eater) actually has pancakes for his main meal once a week and often at weekends for brekkie.

CrystalMcPistol · 09/02/2016 15:51

Well no, because it's Shrove Tuesday or Mardi Gras.

And yet 'Pancake Day seems to be an established thing.................

Jumblesalesandra · 09/02/2016 15:56

Has anyone mentioned Custard cream spread? It's fabulous with pancakes and sliced banana

CrystalMcPistol · 09/02/2016 15:59

Custard cream spread!!!!! Have never heard of such a thing!

FreshHorizons · 09/02/2016 16:03

Thank goodness that common sense has won the day and you have got in perspective!
I have mine with lemon and sugar.

Needfinsnow · 09/02/2016 16:04

OP....PLEASE may I have your chicken Alfredo pancake recipe please?? Sounds delicious! Xx

foragogogo · 09/02/2016 16:07

I thought Mardi Gras was something to do with a carnival in New Orleans?

It's always been Pancake Day on Shrove Tuesday as far as I knew.

fusionconfusion · 09/02/2016 16:07

We call it Pancake Tuesday here in Ireland.

torthecatlady · 09/02/2016 16:10

I FORGOT!! I am now going to cook myself some pancakes as I haven't eaten all day! Guests round for dinner tonight and one is on a diet... So no mention of pancakes I think!

Madbengalmum · 09/02/2016 16:11

Just pancakes.

I used to hate it when i was a kid and had to eat a dinner and have pancakes for pudding, I JUST WANTED PANCAKES!

Do it!!!

foragogogo · 09/02/2016 16:11

just give them pancakes for dinner too :)

CrystalMcPistol · 09/02/2016 16:14

Lemon and sugar is the one true path when it comes to pancakes. Nutella and ice-cream and all that shizz sounds like a good idea, but when you're scoffing them you just think 'meh, not as good as lemon and sugar.'

Gazelda · 09/02/2016 16:15

Oh you're joking, I never knew we were allowed to do that!

DD is going to think it's her birthday when she sees pancakes for tea without any green healthy stuff!

Might give her a smoothie to go with it though, just to make sure she doesn't develop malnutrition overnight.

slithytove · 09/02/2016 16:22

Nope, sweet pancakes for dinner on shrove Tuesday, nothing savoury, that's the joy of if

slithytove · 09/02/2016 16:22

Or the joy of it!

I was going to do beans on toast followed by pancakes but not going to bother now. Do I let the kids do their own toppings though? (they're 4and 2)... from a mess perspective not a health one obvs

shoeaddict83 · 09/02/2016 16:27

OMG custard cream spread is DIVINE! Its from tesco and is exactly the spread from the centre of those amazing biscuits! I have a dollop of that and a dollop on nutella in my sweet pancake and let it melt with the heat....yummmmmmm!!!

middlings · 09/02/2016 16:28

Well if YABU then so am I because pancakes with lemon and sugar and pancakes with DBIL's homemade jam is all I'm having for dinner.

I may have a satsuma afterwards

ignores crunchie wrapper from post lunch lull sitting on desk

Namechange02 · 09/02/2016 16:37

I've not read the full thread but we're having pancakes with lemon and sugar for tea too (and some maple and golden syrup).

Natsku · 09/02/2016 16:43

Ok I made things a bit healthier and fed dd chicken and rice leftovers as a snack after daycare and we'll have pancakes when OH gets back from the shop getting eggs and lemon.

JellyTotCat · 09/02/2016 16:50

It's actually a mortal sin to eat savoury pancakes anyway, so what you are doing is fine. www.thedailymash.co.uk/news/international/savoury-pancakes-are-bullshit-says-pope-20160209106042

Sorry if someone already posted this.

unimaginativename13 · 09/02/2016 16:52

I'm forcing protein pancakes on my DH with waitrose posh choc spread.

He will hate me as would eat Nutella out of the jar.

Gatekeeper · 09/02/2016 16:53

That's what we are having and Soupdragons flapjack recipe as well. And red wine for me and Rh
