to just give my DC pancakes with sugar & lemon juice for tea?

In my defence - they are having a couscous salad for pack lunch at school today with loads of veggies and roast chicken mixed in with it so they will have had one proper meal already.

I had planned to make savoury pancakes with a chicken alfredo filling and then just some sweet ones for after, but I had forgotten that DS has swimming today and I have to go out and pick him up at 5.30pm which is a PITA and means that dinner ends up being rushed rather than leisurely.

They will complain if I make them eat savoury pancakes - not because they are fussy eaters, but because they LOVE sugar & lemon juice crepes and don't get them very often so it's a real treat.

Please tell me IANBU to effectively feed my children dessert for dinner one night of the year.

We are having findus crispy pancakes (because I read the other day they are stopping making them from March and my children haven't been introduced to this culinary delight from my childhood yet!) followed my sweet pancakes with whatever they want on

GrouchyKiwi · 09/02/2016 13:55

We're having pancakes with golden syrup/jam/lemon & sugar for dinner, then pancakes with mango and chocolate sauce for pudding.

Quietlifenotonyournelly · 09/02/2016 13:55

We're having pancakes, DS 12 months will be having them with freshly squeezed orange juice and a squirt of lemon with some raspberries and fresh figs.
Me and DH will be having a mixture of maple syrup, lemon juice and lashings of sugar on ours.Blush

YANBU.

My children will have pancake for tea. They will not want anything else.

anjpink · 09/02/2016 14:09

of course it is, my DH is getting them as well.... I am having spiced turkey mince ( body coach for me ) :0(

CrystalMcPistol · 09/02/2016 14:10

I say Pancake Tuesday. Pancake Day sounds wrong to my ears.

Yseulte · 09/02/2016 14:13

When I was a kid my favourite pancake was grated Gruyere and smoked ham, so I'd be a bit miffed.

shoeaddict83 · 09/02/2016 14:15

My parents always let us just have stacks of sweet pancakes for tea on pancake day! my mum just made loads and the table had all sorts of stuff -lemon and Orange juice, sugar, nutella, jam etc for us to use! It was part of the fun! One day without having a 'proper' evening meal wont hurt!

Me and DP still do this - and will do tonight- even without kids!lol!

crispytruffle · 09/02/2016 14:17

Mine will be having pancakes for their tea. They love it. All different toppings. They won't have room for anything else by the time they've eaten them all!

Ipsos · 09/02/2016 14:17

That would really have messed up my blood sugar as a child. Maybe give them a slice of ham or cheese first?

Breadandwine · 09/02/2016 14:28

If there are any vegans around, or those with allergies - or indeed, anyone on a budget - here's a pancake recipe with no eggs, milk or soy. They cost around 1p each! Smile

Scholes34 · 09/02/2016 14:28

None of that pouncey maple syrup, it has to be Lyle's Golden Syrup every time.

Are you diabetic? What good will cheese or ham do?

Yseulte · 09/02/2016 14:32

It's either Shrove Tuesday or Pancake day, surely. I've never heard 'Pancake Tuesday,' before.

tootsietoo · 09/02/2016 14:34

TOTAL result, was just panicking about what to feed the little darlings quickly before swimming from nearly empty cupboards and they will be delighted with pancakes and I don't need to feel guilty because it's pancake day!

CrystalMcPistol · 09/02/2016 14:36

I've checked Twitter. 'Pancake Tuesday' is Irish and therefore correct.

NewBallsPlease00 · 09/02/2016 14:36

My son had vegan pancakes for breakfast, is making pancakes at school and is going to a friends for tea and apparently having them there too..... Balanced because it's the same every meal Wink

CrystalMcPistol · 09/02/2016 14:36

ginzillas · 09/02/2016 14:37

We had pancakes with sugar and lemon last night (at DD's request - she couldn't wait until tonight. In her defence, she is three). We're doing the same again tonight!

LovelyFriend · 09/02/2016 14:38

I think my DC are having them for breakfast (mine), lunch (school dinner pudding) AND tea (after school with childminder).

DD1's perfect day.
DD2's most hated day of the year.

FlowersAndShit · 09/02/2016 14:40

I'll be making my favourite American style blueberry and white chocolate chip pancakes later.

FlowersAndShit · 09/02/2016 14:41

Here is the recipe, it's amazing. The baking powder makes them really fluffy. Also, you don't need to leave the mixture stand, I don't.

I know it's Shrove Tuesday, but it's also Chinese New Year.

We had pancakes for breakfast, and we will have Chinese food for dinner. (I would have done the pancakes as pudding, but it's one DC's birthday, so we will have cake, and one DC has a school drama assessment tonight, so won't be home for dinner, and would have otherwise missed out.)

Parrish · 09/02/2016 14:44

We have pancakes for dinner (lemon and sugar) one day a week!

Clawdy · 09/02/2016 14:46

When I was little it was the traditional evening meal on Pancake Tuesday, and it was simply pancake after pancake with sugar and lemon,as my sister and I tried to see who could eat the most! I won, every time!
