In my defence - they are having a couscous salad for pack lunch at school today with loads of veggies and roast chicken mixed in with it so they will have had one proper meal already.

I had planned to make savoury pancakes with a chicken alfredo filling and then just some sweet ones for after, but I had forgotten that DS has swimming today and I have to go out and pick him up at 5.30pm which is a PITA and means that dinner ends up being rushed rather than leisurely.

They will complain if I make them eat savoury pancakes - not because they are fussy eaters, but because they LOVE sugar & lemon juice crepes and don't get them very often so it's a real treat.

Please tell me IANBU to effectively feed my children dessert for dinner one night of the year.

I'm going to do pancakes when we get back from nursery/school and then later do sandwiches and fruit in front of a film.

No after school clubs today though so easier. I bloody hate all their clubs.

Orange juice is nicer.

Topseyt · 09/02/2016 13:18

That is what we will be doing. My mum always did this on pancake day too. It was a rite of passage for us as kids. Grin

I have been asked to do a broccoli in cheese sauce filling by DD1, but it will be nutella and the like for afters.

diddl · 09/02/2016 13:21

It's today??

Noooooo!

You mean that I have just cooked lunch & I could have just done pancakes??!!

Bloody hell-I'll be cooking twice in one day[sulk]

BitOutOfPractice · 09/02/2016 13:22

God I want one now!

MyBigFatGreekYoghurt · 09/02/2016 13:22

I feel like a terrible mother! It hadn't even occurred to me to do a proper dinner first!!

Polgara25 · 09/02/2016 13:22

Do ham and cheese pancakes for main course, followed by the lemon and sugar ones.

HanYOLO · 09/02/2016 13:23

YANBU

We might chop up a banana for show.

But no-one will eat it.

GeminiRising · 09/02/2016 13:23

It's the law in our house - pancake day is just pancakes for dinner!! Grin

Janeymoo50 · 09/02/2016 13:23

It's the only way. As a child we did this, I still recall queing at the cooker for the next one to be ready. No doubt someone will suggest adding fruit, avacado and quinoa, but no - sugar and squeezy lemon is the best on one day a year.

HairySubject · 09/02/2016 13:23

well I have just had pancakes for lunch and plan on having them for dinner too. The children will be having them for dinner with nutella, banana, squirty cream and strawberries.

Notso · 09/02/2016 13:24

Why would you be unreasonable to do this?
It really annoys me that DH expects a savoury dinner on Shrove Tuesday.
It's pancake day, the clue is in the name. we have been living together for nearly 16 years and every year is the same except the one year I made pancake lasagne and everyone felt to full to eat the sweet ones. Worst.year.ever.

Micah · 09/02/2016 13:24

Too many carbs.

WitchWay · 09/02/2016 13:24

Every pancake day we have soup & bread for dinner, then pancakes with lemon & sugar for pudding Smile

Artandco · 09/02/2016 13:25

Peaches and ice cream filling here. Peaches are good and ice cream is plenty of calcium. It's almost health food!

BarbaraofSeville · 09/02/2016 13:26

YABU. They will die from lack of protein and veg Grin

Elendon · 09/02/2016 13:27

Pancakes with butter and golden syrup in this household. And I might get one.

Kr1stina · 09/02/2016 13:27

I agree with the poster who said that it's illegal not to

And you MUST let the kids do it themselves . With an age appropriate level of supervision of course

It doesnt count if you make them or buy them from shops . Unless you have no cooking facilities or live in a tent or similar good excuse

Andfaraway · 09/02/2016 13:28

As long as you know what goes into the batter - that is, you make it yourself - then I don't see the problem. Have fun - I remember having really really thin pancakes with lemon & sugar as great fun - we used to make them ourselves and it was a huge treat!

BramblePie · 09/02/2016 13:29

This is th whole point of pancake day, no?
YANBU! That's what I am having!

Elendon · 09/02/2016 13:29

Ps my children are skinny, I'm a size 12. We are all healthy.

BeautyQueenFromMars · 09/02/2016 13:29

Hahaha, it never even crosses my mind to do anything other than sweet pancakes with lemon & sugar (sometimes maple syrup) for dinner on pancake day.

Other than today actually, as I completely forgot and have pre-ordered pizza. Oops.

BeautyQueenFromMars · 09/02/2016 13:30

Um, the laughing at the beginning of my previous post is directed at me, not you OP!
