"Does anyone really care about his past anymore? ( apart from a few on here ? ) I really don't think so. if the BBC are prepared to hire him that says it all really.
Leave the man alone"
His victim still does care very much, which is worth taking into consideration.
He has been quoted as saying "The BBC should be ashamed of themselves for employing Boy George after everything he did to me.
"He shouldn't be allowed to be a mentor they should axe him. He is a criminal who has been to prison."
"If a male celebrity beat up a woman with a chain, handcuffed her to a wall and threatened her with a sex toy, there would be a public outcry if he was given a high-profile job at the BBC.
"But because I am a gay man they think it's OK. It's outrageous."
He has also claimed his life was ruined by what Boy George did to him, and that George has never apologised or shown remorse.
He says needed therapy for eight years following the kidnap, and feels that George being given this job has now set back his recovery. And he also says he believed he was going to die while being kept prisoner.
He managed to escape while wearing just underwear and shoes, and had to run to a nearby shop for help while still handcuffed. He was cut free by the police.
And apparently he still believes that he would have been killed if he hadn't managed to escape.
So yes, while we all do stuff we regret, while George might have been high on drugs at the time (which possibly is all the more reason for his victim to fear for his life if he was off his face and unpredictable) and while we all do deserve a second chance, I don't think we can say that nobody cares anymore.
This man clearly cares very much and feels badly affected by George being given a very high profile job.
For what it's worth I quite like George. I read his autobiography years ago and liked him then. I like him now on the Voice, I find him interesting and quite insightful.
But I also believe that paying his debt to society and paying his debt to his victim are two very different things.
Society was hardly affected by George's crime, his victim has apparently suffered for years and is still suffering.
I don't know about you, but if all of that was done to me I don't think I'd be feeling too forgiving right now, regardless of how my kidnapper and abuser was now living his life.
Given that his victim has been in the press objecting to George being on the show, I think it's quite reasonable that people are talking about it, whatever their opinion is on him or his role on the show. If you commit a crime of that sort people will remember it and have an opinion on the rights or wrongs of so public a second chance.
