Or am I being lulled by his make-up team and the strange studio lighting on The Voice.

Think I'm getting a bit of a crush Blush

I don't think anyone with a criminal past should never work again (Usual). Absolutely not! of course not.

However, when it comes to considering whether someone is "beautiful" (as per thread title) or not, if I knew they had a horrible violent criminal episode in their past, I would cease to find them "beautiful" at all.

Sparklingbrook · 07/02/2016 21:12

I think I'll leave you all to it.

I'm sorry, I don't think it's "itching to have a good go". I think it is a lot of people raising completely valid concerns.

I have a HUGE issue with Cheryl whatsit being so fondly thought of, as well.

You can't just say because someone is physically attractive that they deserve to have a highly paid job in the mainstream media, let's sweep their horrible criminal acts under the carpet. Or, well, you apparently can - but some of us think that sucks. Sucks big time.

I was a culture club fan back in the 80's, but what Boy George did to that poor guy put me right off him, and I was surprised that all is forgiven and he was offered the Voice. Media careers have been destroyed for lesser crimes, I'm thinking Frank Bough. I really feel for BG's victim.

Hygge · 07/02/2016 21:18

Sparkling Like just about everything else on here then, done to death time and again.

First time by me though, I don't think I've ever spoken about him on here before.

I would say it again if I felt it was necessary though. Not just about George though, but on any thread where I felt the victim of a crime was being treated badly and disrespectfully.

Which is what my first post was all about, the fact that people do care about what happened and the way his victim feels now. It was wrong of the person on here to say that nobody cares. My subsequent posts were to restate that in light of all the "so you want him locked up for life and he should never work again" comments when that was clearly not what I said and I wasn't having a go at him.

Whatever you think of him, and I have said I that I like him, George is not the bigger victim in this discussion.

Have a search for my other posts about Boy George then usual.

Sadly, I know a clutch of cocained addicts in my real life. None of them have used it as an excuse to minimise the abuse and kidnap of anyone.

GloGirl · 07/02/2016 21:22

This is also my first BG thread.

"BG klaxon" I'm sorry?

SurferJet · 07/02/2016 21:42

Hygge,

It was me who said; 'nobody cares apart from a few on MN' - & I'm sure that's true, because if it wasn't the BBC wouldn't have touched him. Do you really think they'd put BG on prime time TV if they thought public opinion would run riot? - of course they wouldn't - they're not bloody stupid.
& of course the victim cares, that's goes without saying, but if it had been anyone else who'd tied him up you wouldn't have even heard about it. - yes he did wrong, yes the victim still cares, & yes they're are people who still feel deeply for the victim.
But millions of people have moved on & I'm afraid you'll just have to accept that.

Hygge · 07/02/2016 21:46

"I'm sure it won't be your last."

As far as I can see, nobody here has gone to the "love of Boy George" thread to say anything negative about him. Which perhaps they would have if the point was just to complain about him on as many threads as possible.

It's being discussed here, people are talking about it. Certainly by the time I first saw this thread it was already well under discussion.

I didn't make a point of seeking out a thread about him just so I could say that I empathise with his victim and how he must be feeling now his attacker is on national TV every week.

In fact I was planning to say that I thought George looked very well on the Voice. Until I saw the derogatory comment about nobody caring about his crime and the implication of the BBC somehow being a good judge of reformed characters.

And I would have spoken up about that no matter who the celebrity under discussion was, not just because it was George, because I think his victim needs to know that people do still care about the way he feels about it.

Hygge · 07/02/2016 21:54

The BBC, so to speak, 'touched' Jimmy Saville and his ilk for years Surfer, so I'm not convinced of their good judgement.

And yes, if it had been anyone else (meaning someone not famous) we wouldn't have heard of it. But in the same way, had it been anyone else they wouldn't be on The Voice either.

It doesn't go without saying that the victim still cares. It's a massive part of the We Believe You campaign that people are told they are believed and people care. Even if the crime is years old.

I'm not the one who has to accept that millions of people have "moved on" from something that didn't happen to them personally. That's his victim again, he unfortunately is the one who has to accept that. But I'm not going to join people in saying I no longer care, or pretend it never happened because the sentence is served, because I think his victim deserves better than that.

southeastastra · 07/02/2016 21:56

he's a twat

bibbitybobbityyhat · 07/02/2016 21:59

"But millions of people have moved on & I'm afraid you'll just have to accept that."

She doesn't have to accept anything of the sort. She can voice her disquiet and disgust, loud and proud, whenever she wants and wherever she wants, as she lives in a democracy and posts on a democratic internet talkboard which allows conversation on any topic as long as it doesn't "break talk guidelines".

Samcro · 07/02/2016 21:59
