I'm going on a city break with DH and 2yo DD in a couple of months. Upon hearing of this, a colleague told me that she'll give me a list of things she wants from said city. I said we'd only be taking a small suitcase, as I didn't want to lug a big bag around the city on our final day, so she said we'd be better off taking a big one and leaving it at the hotel or at the station. We are staying at an AirBnb, so can't leave any luggage there, and the station is at the other end of town from where we'll be staying, and I'm not going to hike all the way over there with DD in a stroller just to leave my bag. I told her this and she was a bit huffy and said she'd just ask me to get her a few things and another friend would "bring the bulk" of the stuff she wanted.

Now AIBU to think she has a cheek for just saying that without actually asking if I'd mind bringing her some stuff back? Obviously she'll give me the money and I actually don't mind picking up a few things for her but she's acting like the principle point of my holiday is to go shopping for her! I am tempted to use the MN staple of ODFOD next time she mentions it!

YANBU. No harm in her asking, but at your obvious reluctance she should have left it. Tell her you'll get whatever can be bought at the airport but you can't get anything else.

Once we were going to Turkey, and someone we barely knew asked us to bring a load of counterfeit stuff back for him. We didn't.

Just keep saying you don't want to do it, because you're not there to do shopping, you'll be an a family break.

Don't feel guilty. If she wants the stuff so badly, she can go, herself.

As I said, I'd have happily got a few things for her but it was just the way she said she'd be giving me a list that irked me. Clearly it's a rather long list if she now has to divide it up by two people! And what happened to saying "would you mind picking up X for me?" Surely that is the polite thing to do?

YANBU in your shoes I wouldn't bring anything back for her. If she gives a list then just don't do the shopping & tell her you didn't have time - this was rare family time & that is what you focused in.

I wouldn't do it. You will end up feeling very resentful if you spend your time doing all her stuff to the detriment of your own plans.

This friend sounds very presumptuous, and is being rude with it.

I thought I was going to say YABU, as I've often picked up one or two things for people when travelling and I quite like doing it, but a list and suggestions of how you could cart all her stuff around is taking the piss.

Very cheeky. Are you flying? And, if so, will she be reimbursing you for the increased baggage allowance? Because it sounds like she's after a fairly substantial amount of stuff.

If not it's still pretty bloody cheeky of her to expect that you'll cart around a (potentially heavy) load of her shopping.

I think op I would be blunt at this stage and say you are only bringing hand luggage so you can't bring her back stuff. It is a bit arrogant of her to assume you will do it

YANBU really - but I have a reciprocal arrangement with several friends who go to various parts of Europe - we all bring stuff back for one another but never too much and always bearing in mind that we don't take hold luggage. But a list? Cheeky mare.

Oh nothing scandalous on the list, just European skincare products you can't get in the UK, but knowing her it would probably be the entire contents of the nearest pharmacy! I am yet to see the actual list though, shall report back when I do!

It's a specific shop she wants me to go to and tbf it's near where we are staying but she's irritated me by demanding rather than asking!

'I've had a think about this and it isn't going to be possible for me to purchase these products for you. Sorry, but we're bringing a really small bag, staying in Air B&B and have all DD's gear. You'll have to make other arrangements.'
