To think gumtree is now as bad as freecycle for loons

Advertising a very fairly priced double buggy at 75 quid should have gone higher to be knocked down

No issue with those that say 'Can I offer xxx' but I keep getting reasons for why I must give it for less:

'I only plan to use in the park so I will pay 50'
'It's only for a holiday so I can collect and pay 30'
'My toddler walks a lot so I might not need it long so I think 40 is fair'
'I'm just up the road so will pay 40 and be there soon'
'I plan to spend 20'

um, I don't give a shit if you're planning to use as a sacrifice to appease the tantrum gods frankly!
Get one of the shitty cheap dirty ones also listed!

At least people are offering you actual cash. When I was selling our kingsize Malm bedframe I was offer the hard to resist bounty of a first generation game boy and a computer monitor that didn't work but I could pay to have fixed.

Facebook selling is as bad. I've recently dipped my toes in only because I had bulky stuff to sell.
All posts ended with price,no swaps, no delivery, inbox me please as I don't get notifications.

On checking posts later I find the following :

1.will you swap for X

  1. Can u dlivr 2 x
  2. Ow much?
4..........
  1. Y u not anserin me?

(4 and 5 were same person). Best message came from man who wondered if it was heavy as he was planning on catching the bus (large bulky item requiring 2 people to lift). Fortunately everything went quickly to the non huns but dear God is it hard work on those groups.

Or 'I MUST HAVE THIS NOW ITS AN EMERGENCY I'll pay you £50.'

And when they do turn up its 'Oh I only have £40.'

DH loves it when I list on them, he says watching me get more and more annoyed coupled with the increasingly ridiculous questions is brilliant entertainment.

Years ago I advertised my old car in Loot. Something along the lines of,
"W reg Ford Fiesta mk1 1.1L, 18 years young, 90,000 miles, fair condition for age, great runner, £250".
I got phone calls asking how old, how much, what reg, "what's the real mileage, love Hmm", is it insured (yes, for me!) and, my favourite, "Is it a new one as I don't like old cars?".
I'm sure that car had a brain of its own as on the day the ad appeared it locked me in on Safeway carpark and refused to open any of its doors. I had to climb out of the window but I swear it was trying to spare me the fools (and keep me as its very own).

Tell me about it. I listed an iPhone in perfect condition, for £30 less than any other on Gumtree, plus it was the next memory size up, so a real bargain. I wrote on the listing "priced to sell. No offers please, if you're not willing to pay asking price please don't waste your time or mine by suggesting otherwise as I won't respond" how many messages did I get offering me about 40-70% of the price? TWENTY SIX. Before someone sensible drove over straight away and don't even quibble as he was so happy to find one in that condition for such a good price.

The best line is when they offer you a shit price but say they will pay "cash". Well that's great because my card machine is on the blink today!

I love gumtree and FB selling groups. They're rage inducing and entertaining at the same time.

I post stuff on fb selling groups and don't get a response but when DP posts he gets swarmed.

If you ask for recommendations for trade people or ask for someone to remove loads of rubbish you get swamped with messages. We asked for professional people to quote for removal of a massive hedge and removal of other stuff and my god it was mayhem. Me and DP sat back and watched people squabble and fight over who was going to be doing the work. People were so desperate they were quoting £30 for a job that would take 2 full days Shock (obviously they weren't professionals) .

We tried to sell a caravan once. I actually had someone genuinely cross with me because I wouldn't let them live in it on our property. She kept saying "but I don't have anywhere else to put it!!".

Stopped using freecycle after all the messages were from "mums" who needed my cross trainer to lose their baby weight or my kid's bike for their little one, yet the people who came to collect them were always blokes in their 50s in white vans Hmm probably full of all the other free loot they'd got to sell on.

just cant believe some people....i watched an argument on a selling page over a settee....one i would have taken to the dump to be honest...then the one who 'won' the squabble said she didnt actually want it anyway as it couldnt be delivered!.....strange people

Haven't used gumtree since the day I agreed to reduce my price by a fiver (making it £10), take it to the local bus station (even though it was listed as for collection) only to have the barking mad woman who wanted it and had travelled on two buses for an hour or so to get there turn it down because the border wasn't the colour she'd thought it was.

It went to a charity shop like everything else we couldn't car boot since. Can't be doing with that kind of shenanigans and this thread hasn't convinced me it's got any betterGrin

There sure are some oddities, was selling a pine bed frame once, a man phoned up and said could he pay in kind.
Loads of people not turning or inventing fantastical stories.

A couple of times recently when I bought stuff off ebay, the sellers seemed genuinely shocked when I turned up when I said I would, paid up as per my bid and loaded items into my car. I must be part of a dying breed. I am getting a bit hacked off with people telling me how shit the thing I am selling is - even though they have no intention at all of buying it.
