To think gumtree is now as bad as freecycle for loons

Advertising a very fairly priced double buggy at 75 quid should have gone higher to be knocked down

No issue with those that say 'Can I offer xxx' but I keep getting reasons for why I must give it for less:

'I only plan to use in the park so I will pay 50'
'It's only for a holiday so I can collect and pay 30'
'My toddler walks a lot so I might not need it long so I think 40 is fair'
'I'm just up the road so will pay 40 and be there soon'
'I plan to spend 20'

um, I don't give a shit if you're planning to use as a sacrifice to appease the tantrum gods frankly!
Get one of the shitty cheap dirty ones also listed!

revealall I wondered if there was anyone near me on MN!!

I sold my old car on gumtree because I was too cheap to pay for an ad on autotrader

It had problems and was essentially a non runner, but was an okay car so put up for £500 (well below spares and repairs prices for a similar model and year). I had so so many people claiming they were '10 mins away, cash ready' and never show. Or an offer to make me a bank transfer there and then if I provided my bank details, address and date of birth!

Eventually a man came and got it for asking price, he worked in a garage and was going to do it up and sell on. He was lovely apart from sending me photo updates of the work he was doing over the next two weeks! Sweet but tiresome, had to start ignoring him!

This is making me panic! I have sold five dresses on eBay. One lady has told me she can't pay until she gets paid ( I told her that's ok - I just hope she does pay) one person didn't pay until I opened a case. With postage and about 30% fees I can see it's just not worth the hassle! I'm expecting bad feedback just because I had to wait four days then open a case.

I offered a pair of unworn Irregular Choice shoes (bloody gorgeous but couldn't jam my clown feet into them and I was too lazy to return them Blush) on our local freegle and stipulated they would only be given to someone who would wear them, they were not to be sold on.

Cue a zillion emails along the lines of 'me plz hun, can u deliver?' and just one from a girl who included a photo of a dress she'd made for a wedding she was invited to, asking if I thought my shoes would look nice with it, and if so, could she be considered?

She got the shoes. She later sent me a thank you card and another photo of her at the wedding in all her finery, which was sweet.

I sell stuff on eBay and can see I've got off lightly! The worst I've had to deal with are people making ridiculous offers on items well below their selling value but that's really not a big issue.

Some of these are hilarious but I can imagine how frustrating they must be to deal with.

ijustwannadance · 09/02/2016 12:41

My local freecycle is a joke. For at least the last 2 years the same few people repost the same wanted ads.
One wants lego.
One wants care bears to keep grandchildren occupied. (bit too specific. Especially as he only wants the vintage ones).
One woman who decides to take up a new craft every week so needs xyz.
And my favourite, someone that needs to desperately furnish his new flat but only needs old pine furniture and can collect all over north Wales and Cheshire. I think he genuinely believes that people don't know he is shabby chicing up the stuff and reselling it.

flippinada · 09/02/2016 13:03

2boys don't panic, that happened to me once. I said it was fine and would send the item out when they paid, which they did. I'm sure it'll be ok!

toottoottakeover · 09/02/2016 13:44

Oh no! I wish I had read this thread before putting a couple of freebies on gumtree. I have just had someone ask if I can deliver one of the items despite saying collection only on the ad!

SistersOfPercy · 09/02/2016 14:55

Let me guess, the Care Bears he's looking for are the Cousins, specifically the Pig, Horse, Cat and Monkey. He'd also like the bear with the waves on his belly (sea friend), the star (true heart) and the one with the tree (forest friend).

I collected care bears when DD was small. Mostly from boot sales and charity shops but never paid more than £1. When I sold the collection it went for just shy of £5k. The horse is the rare one...

www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Mint-Vintage-Noble-Heat-Horse-Care-Bear-/231802648606?hash=item35f883b81e%3Ag%3Ak4EAAOSwKrxUZcwk&nma=true&si=swjskaOVqkXYR6Qbt5UossZxH%252BQ%253D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557

Prices have dropped dramatically since I sold up (perfect timing with hindsight), but still a few quid to be made from the right bear.

ijustwannadance · 09/02/2016 15:13

Sisters I still have mine from childhood. My most valuable is loyal heart dog although DD was recently given some toys by a friend of my mum and forest friends bear is there. My mum thought I was a loon for getting excited.
I remember going into a poundstretchers when I was about 20 and them having the cat/monkey/lamb for £5 each. Still kick myself for not picking up a few but was trying to be all grown up and not buy toys.

SistersOfPercy · 09/02/2016 16:14

My Noble sold for £1k when it went, not a bad return on a 50p find. It bought a new kitchen.
Here's DD when she was little with a few of ours, including Noble.

GloGirl · 09/02/2016 16:23

Oh I love Care Bears - and this is not me asking for any of your vintage ones! I saw an advert for Build a Bear ones, they're just doing a couple now which I'm quite excited about!

KumquatMay · 09/02/2016 16:32

Saw a great ad the other week on Freecycle, along the lines of...

"WANTED: Flat-screen TV. In working order and good condition only. Delivery only as I don't drive. Wait for my reply as I only check emails on Mondays and Thursdays."

Hillingdon · 09/02/2016 16:38

I do think there are a certain group of people who just don't get it. From all walks of life.

When it says no deliveries it doesn't mean the complete opposite!

My SIS is in my financial difficulties. She needs to sell their house and we are not taking small amounts of money. She is insistent that she must get £xx for the house because she 'needs' the money to keep their lifestyle going and is currently blaming the estate agent for not sending around anyone who wants to buy it!

As if some random stranger would buy an overpriced house because she cannot budget properly.
